  1. Might just have to do more beefin’ haha. It’s otherwise a great unit
  2. Nice inside arm one that I caught on a 3 on 1 (stopped it, at least?). I’ve beefed up my RGT2 Sr around there but it may be time to consider an upgrade. Some of the guys at this skate can really shoot.
  3. Hey all, I've been in Bauer Vapor x900s since about 2018, and they've been a solid skate that have treated me well. However, the liner seems to be pretty worn down and they're feeling a bit soft, so I think it's time to consider an upgrade/update. Does anyone have experience with the Bauer Elites? They seem like a similar and good step that I can swap my (relatively new) Pulse TI Blades onto, which is a plus in my books. Definitely considering other options - True TF9s and maybe Konekt HF2s, so I'm open to what else people recommend for the mid-range skate lines.

    Baselayer thread

What size are you @coopaloop1234? I've got a size large that I don't really wear if you want them. They're a bit used, but still in good shape. Right now I'm trying to find a good setup to wear over my more structured/compression shorts (Mcdavid cross compression) whenever I need the extra support. I think I basically wore out the cross compression on my Bauer core pants so I'm not really getting that extra support.

Good point about the bulk - I use the baselayer with the sock tabs now, but was thinking of trying something different. sounds like this would cause another issue altogether. Thanks!

Does anyone wear jock shorts? Like the yellow mesh kind players wear. I wonder how they might work for holding up socks over knee pads.

typically an Under Armor compression longsleeve (they offer tall sizes which is great for my weird proportions) and Bauer Core 1.0 legs. I like the wicking and support, and the compression feels good. Dealing with a hip thing lately that comes and goes, so last night I wore McDavid cross-compression shorts (similar to the Bauer 2.0, i think) under a set of CCM legs that had the sock velcro. Worked really well to help with the aches, and will probably be my solution when that flares up.

    Pre-Curved Pads

I think you and I are looking for the exact same thing, haha. I just checked out the Iconiks and Optiks in store and think it’s a good meet for that need. The Iconiks had the “flex” profile but that was mostly in the boot. Thigh was nice and stiff but with a noticeable curve in. edit just to say - also agreed that the Optik3 graphic is roooooooof haha

This is super helpful - thanks @coopaloop1234! Makes me think that Brian's might be the way to go for a a future set.

    Pre-Curved Pads

Hey all, I've been curious about how different companies/models offer different degrees of pre-curve in their pads, and what to look for. As a 35 year old with a janky left hip flexor, I'm always looking for a little extra advantage in this regard. For the purposes of this thread, I'm mostly wondering about stock/off the shelf products, as custom is a different ballgame altogether. I've heard Brian's tends to be a bit more curved and saw Dudo's review of the Iconiks having almost a "Z-shape", which sounds intriguing. Anyone have a sense of how different brands/models compare? I have my Warrior G5s that were pretty straight at first, but with some manipulation/profile lock they've curved quite nicely.
  11. Bought a set of G4 Warrior Goalie straps but only needed the sling wrap (calf/knee block strap). The rest is up for grabs for $30 CAD/$25 USD plus shipping Retails for $59.99 plus tax CAD/$49.99 USD, so I’ll do half off without the sling wraps. These fit G3, G4, and G5 and includes: 2 boot elastic straps with clips 2 toe elastic straps with clips
  12. Anyone make the switch from the standard armor version to the hybrid with the gap? I think mine might be coming due for a replacement (2+ years, 1-2 times a week at least) and I’m curious to try the hybrid. Just curious if there’s much of a change.
  13. Thanks! I have the same kind, so I'll order one to try that.
  14. Thanks all! @coopaloop1234 and @Puckstopper - what honing stone do you use?
  15. Hey all, Just curious if any of you do any sort of honing or sharpening touch-ups between proper sharpens. I've had a sweet stick (this thing) in my kit for a long time and forgot why I bought it, but recently saw another goalie use one and do some passes of his skates before a game. Just wondering if there was any advice or recommended better goalie-specific version. From what I can tell from Youtube and searching around here, one pass (light pressure) does the job just fine to give back an edge. For context, I'm using Bauer Vapor x900s with PulseTI steel in 1/2" cut and stock profile (30'). They're perfect on the first two skates, but I find on the 3rd and 4th skate after a sharpen I could definitely benefit from a little more bite.
  16. I wonder if there's a difference in rituals between those that get a proper warm up and those that get two minutes after the zamboni door closes...
  17. Same stretching routine/wall ball tossing before every game. Try to take a minute or so to do some deep breathing and noticing stuff around the arena to be more present just before the game and block out work/personal/life stuff that's in my head. Used to be have an intense routine (same meal, meditation, stretching, etc) before every game but life got in the way, and honestly - I don't think I'm at a high enough level as a beer leaguer for it to make much of a difference! haha
  18. I used two-part marine epoxy when I cut down the paddle on one of mine and had to fix them up. Holds up great and is more waterproof. About 15 bucks at Canadian Tire and easy to use.
  19. Same! switched to compression fit and it's great.
  20. I think they supply the AHL too but I don't think anyone is in them (assuming that they can't wear it or would have to cover up if they went to the NHL). Maybe pants/chesty though?
  21. This is really helpful and a great example. Thanks!
  22. Also adding that I saw some of this in the videos! A lot of one-knee down and popping back up - faking out shooters or closing holes?
