  1. Thanks for doing this! Huge discussion and love hearing from the artists/makers directly. IP issues aside, GMC has bothered me for a long time, even just as a fan. Most of the replicas simply don't look right. For example, they put a Marty paint job on a 961 ripoff shell. I just hate that the customer is getting a shitty quality shell, with a low quality replica paint job, but sold at a premium price point. It's really for the customer that doesn't know what they're getting. They are duping customers. And being worse to the artists. And the former players that autograph these replicas, man, they are really turning a blind eye to this! It's not even on their radar. Now about the IP part. I do have one issue with it. As a fan of the game, influenced by the big name goalies that came before me, if I want to get a Beezer replica mask to sit on a shelf and look cool in a man cave, am i just not supposed to do that? What if I found an old Armadilla - is Don the only one that could paint it for me? What if he doesn't want to do that, like how he doesn't want to make new masks anymore. The interview didn't really cover this. As a fan/customer looking to do the right thing, but wanting to (for example) add a beezer mask to my collection, what other choice do I have? It's a bit frustrating since there's no official channel. I would gladly pay Don to get something done (he seems like a great dude BTW), and if fact, pay more because it would be an authentic replica, but it's not even an option. I think the successful NHL mask makers (former and current) should band together and set up an eCommerce platform to take orders for actual authentic mask replicas and offer the painting through established, verified channels, or directly (if they paint). This has been going on for 30 years as Don mentions. I'm sure there are real dollars at stake. If they did this, they could also pool resources and be more aggressive on the legal side. Would love to see GMC go away.
  2. Anyone tried to order something recently? any data points about how the virus is affecting wait times right now?

    Lefevre going solo

Pads looks great, but very traditional. Guess they need their flagship pad everyone knows. Love seeing the 580 trapper. The font they chose is HORRIBLE. Hope they other models are modern. They’ve been innovators historically. Hoping to see that continue. I agree with (whoever said it) the earlier call that Bernier is the most likely to wear this stuff from the get-go.
  4. Clearly it’s just the notch where they put the cameras
  5. Practically speaking, what exactly does “reinforced” entail compared to stock? How is it different, the T, or the spine of the T? Does this help with closure, durability, both?
  6. I was super excited to get a 1-piece. Then i did. Played with it a dozen times. Quickly went back to 2-piece. Just more comfortable, and I didn’t realize how much I’d grown accustomed to the feel of the 2-piece. 1-piece just always pushes forward. Sometimes i felt like i wasnt closing gaps the right way. The 2-pieces just moves with you differently.
  7. Baseball catchers use similar gloves under their catching mitts. I’d look into these, as most of them have padding in areas that would also be useful for a goalie. Been meaning to try some of these, and they aren’t very expensive.
  8. Wow, it’s incredible. Wish this mask would make its way back to the NHL. You can see a lot of their influence in the Pros Choice style. Many questions for you. Why do you have so many masks? How many do you have? Do you have a favorite? Which one fits the best? Which one has the least ringing/best sound protection when you get hit? And importantly, what’s going to be next now that you have the Harrison locked down?!?
  9. I would echo the VE8 2-piece that someone said above. for background, I've had 3 5500s and 1 bauer reactor 6000 (plus a bauer 2s, 590 breaks, etc). I just keep coming back to the 5500. It bothers me when people lump 5500 and 600 and 2s together as similar, as they are not close at all. these gloves have a much higher thumb angle, and the break point is at the base of fingers, which is really different than the 5500 break, which is diagonally through the palm and feels conical. The closest current stock glove, in my opinion, to the 5500 is the VE8 2-piece. none of the other vaughn gloves are as close. Interestingly, I messaged vaughn on instagram at one point and they confirmed the break/internals of the ve8 2-piece is the same as glove as the PVE1, just the t-shape and graphic are different. I would definitely check this glove out if you have a store nearby. If you can find a PVE1 on discount somewhere, that would be a great value play, as it's essentially the same glove. as great as the 5500 is for catching, not sure i would order one custom, as the rest of the glove is starting to show its age. the internals get super slippery, for example. the backhand padding is just okay. Modern internal fabrics / strapping are much better. also, who needs eyelets anymore?
  10. Yeah, I noticed spencer knight also in new SLR 1s at BC. Murray got the 2s so fast tho.
  11. What is Greiss doing? Last gen SLRs, v7 blocker and PVE gen 1 trapper? You’re in the NHL dude, get it together
  12. I spy ccm gloves and what appears to be a Vaughn glove in Bishop’s stall, maybe that’s dobby’s tho.
  13. I have the matching trapping, same colors, also unused. Will sell to whoever buys the pads! Who has the blocker?! then we need a photoshoot!
  14. Really cool to see that a PC cage can be mounted on a 960/961. Always loved that tri-cat cage. Excited to see how this turns out for you. I have a similar mask, 961 3-stripes model, that i may refurb like you, but then turn into a showpiece model. Do you know if the PC cage would fit on the current model 960xpm? I have the M/L size and its got a few dents in it.
  15. I transitioned from Reebok P3s to the Bauer 2S. It’s been an awesome change. I’m glad I stayed with the stiff profile (stuff to Reebok to extra stiff with 2s) than going to a softer pad like a Vaughn. The rebounds literally rocket off the pad. Sometime it almost seems like the exit velocity is faster than the shot itself. Doesn’t hurt that pads are 20% lighter these days so you probably can’t go wrong. If you’re looking for the least possible difference, I’d go CCM Premier 2, but the eflex line would feel familiar too. If you want to keep the really stiff profile and open to trying something new, go with the 2S. If you want to try Vaughn for a more traditional, softer pad, go for it. These are all amazing pads.
  16. I was told 13 weeks for custom SLR2s right now
  17. Here are my before and after pictures. I wear about an 11.5 / 12.0 in Nike sneakers. Not sure what the skates are technically (maybe 10 or 10.5?). Needless to say, the difference was startling. I was thrilled to drop more than half a pound on each skate (~25% improvement). Night and day. Attack angle is best benefit tho of cowlingless. Look how antiquated the kohos look haha. I do think the Bauers are even lighter than True. - Koho: 2lbs 12.6 ounces | 1265 grams - True 2-piece: 2lbs 1.8 ounces. | 958 grams Before (circa 2004?!): After:
  18. Pretty impressive on Warrior's part. Good to hear. @cwarnar @ZeroGravitas Were these full blown custom with multiple changes? or simpler, like color zones?
  19. Wait times suck! The idea for this thread is to create a central repository of wait times for custom gear (any and all manufacturers welcome) and, in the process, give transparency to the prospective customer. My personal POV is that the wait times in our industry are just way too long on average. I hope this thread can bring awareness to this issue and also give back some knowledge and/or leverage to the customer. Please post whatever wait times you've been quoted for custom gear that you've ordered or discussed with your local retailer / sales rep., or with the mfg directly. Obviously, wait times change all the time based on demand for the product, time of year, whom the retailer is, level of pro orders, etc. For this reason, if you can remember it, please include the details of the time of year of your order! I'll kick it off with a couple (not so recent anymore) examples: True Skates - Spring 2018 order. Was told 6 weeks by the retailer, but that they'd been receiving them faster lately, in about 4 weeks. The 4 weeks turned out to be a good estimate. Protechsport Mask - Jan 2017 order. Michel is a bit notorious here, but at least he is up front about it! He quoted me 19 weeks before he could "start the process". In reality, it was 17 weeks before he started it, but by the time the mask was finished and ultimately shipped/delivered to me, it was closer to 25 weeks all-in. The mask is great, don't get me wrong, but I don't think I can put myself through this again, haha.

    Vaughn SLR 2

Yeah, thanks. that's exactly what i was looking for. I'm a 34+2 in reeboks, but the 33+2 slr felt good.

    Vaughn SLR 2

Has anyone been told that the slr's run slightly larger? For example, I was at a retail store looking at mainly 34+1s. I'm currently in a 34+2. When i tried on the SLRs, they told me it runs a little large, and i should try the 33+2. I did, and honestly it felt like the right size. Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with the SLR in particular and if the same applies to the SLR2.

Curious to hear a bit about your experience and how the soft pad helps with the hips. What kind of hip pain are you experiencing? how has the stiff pad made the hips worse?
  23. Does anyone know if the Vasilevskiy foot injury is from a shot he took to the foot, or something else? There's so much less foot protection from the way pads are strapped these days, the shallow boots, pads sitting higher due to the lundy loop or no boot strap at all, how loose the toe ties are...Condon comes to mind (below). Usually it's a non-issue due to the angles, and granted much of the prior protection was superfluous, but I'm wondering if maybe Vasilevskiy opened up for a second and took a puck off the skate...? Condon example:
  24. Never used soakers. Good suggestions, guys. i will experiment. I do think there's just something about the steel itself, as I've never had this problem before. Looks like others on Reddit have had this issue come up as well, and with Step Steel specifically. this is the thread.
