I picked up some used all white Bauer 1X's on SidelineSwap the other day, and am hoping to spice them up a bit using Padskinz or Pad Wrap (haven't picked which one). I've done some research on tips/techniques for applying the skin to pads, and it looks like the general rule of thumb that you should apply the wrap along a stitched seam for a secured seal. Since 1X's don't have any stitching, I was wondering if anyone has had experience applying a skin/wrap to them, and if so if there are any tips. Also, I know that Mike McKenna used a wrap on his 2S's for about a week after he was traded to the Flyers to cover up his Ottawa colors, so I know a wrap can work for a short-term, but am curios to see if anyone has had any longer term success or failure using a skin on Bauer 1X's (or 1S/2S's). Any feedback or advice is appreciated!
Hey guys, anyone have any insight into whether a custom manufacturer like Passau is working on some of the pad "innovations" we have seen in the last year such as the speed skin/core composite/primo materials? Or the use of different foams to create the internal "breaks" in the pads? I am pretty close to ordering a custom set of Brian's Optiks, but after poking around Passau's website looking for some fixes for my current pads in the interim (which look like they will work great!, thanks Passau!) I like their work and craftsmanship. Looks truly customizable. I just have really good experiences demoing the 1x and 1s as well as trying on the Optiks at the local store. (As an FYI, I'm looking at a moderately stiff pad with a subtly curve to the thigh rise and am probably getting a Brian's FLY). Just wanted to be sure before I spend the $$$ on a set
Hello Fellow TGN subscribers! Its time to upgrade from my Bauer Pros and I'm in a dilemma about what skate to buy. I've narrowed down my options to the Bauer 1S skates, Bauer 1X skates, and the VH two pieces with the 1S vertexx cowling. I'm going to try out the 1S and 1X skates today. I currently have 10.5 D Bauer pro skates. The problem I found with the Bauer pros is that the boot is too wide, and I have narrow feet. I feel that because of that I'm not getting the most out of my movements. That's why I'm reluctant to get the 1S or 1X skates because the boot may be too wide and I don't want to spend $750 for a skate that doesn't fit the way I'd like. But with the VH skates it would be completely custom to my foot and would fit perfectly. The only thing I'm weary of is the price and possibly growing out of them because I'm only 17, which is not that probable. I'm leaning towards the VH skates because of the fit and I've heard only good things about them. Bauer 1S and 1X skates look appealing too don't get me wrong. I would like to hear all your opinions on what you think!! Thanks, David
