Itech put out the 1200 aka Widow Maker as a senior ice hockey mask. You telling me they put worthy data to uphold its worth in safety? There are good product developers who can't afford the absurd amounts for testing data and certification and there are some that are very questionable despite the OK stamps of approval.

    It's just my opinion.

Yea that’s true, but doesn’t relate to anything I said lol. Good luck with your super cage, I hope you never find out why an unbendable cage is a terrible idea.

Separately, I’m well aware of the questionable masks that have passed official certification. 10+ years in the business will do that. One wouldn’t need to afford “absurd amounts” to do a basic testing of a product that they’re schilling as a superior protective device. But even worse than that, convos with the creator show a complete lack of knowledge of the ideas at play in designing a helmet, and why it’s done the way it is. So again, sincere good luck to you that you don’t discover why passing force into your helmet and head isn’t a smart trade for an occasional $100 cage replacement.

The cages are custom built, one at a time for the customer. Mine was built for my Reidic. Being that the steel is thicker than your typical cage, there is a natural margin of adjustment needed. I wouldn't want a cage, no matter the brand, to be so soft that it would bend or break with a simple wrister.

A mask needs some give to help absorb some of the energy which then transfers to the foam. My Reidic has done its job well seeing that it's a high quality ABS shell.

I agree, fit is primary. My question here though is simply finding a short wrap clip to secure the lower part of the cage.

I don't see how these thoughts are congruent with each other. A shot that hits super cage with enough force to bend a normal one (dissipating some energy) is passing more of the force to the helmet, foam, and wearer than the design intended. It's a bad design that is only taking one piece of a multiple piece setup into account.

I don't know, I'm wary of anyone who makes safety equipment without a single ounce of testing or data to back up claims, or refute ones like these.

  3. What's the deal with these Guardian Angel cages? Everytime they pop up on facebook there seems to be a very well thought out response (imo) that an unbendable cage is a bad idea. The owner basically responds with "nuh uh!" and apparently has done zero testing as to how they interact as a whole with the helmet. Personally, the physics behind it seems to indicate it's a bad idea, particularly as you go down in helmet quality and quality of materials. Any thoughts?

  4. Perhaps it's old news, but I ordered Machs this past summer, and they differ from the ones reviewed here in two minor ways:

    1) The calf plate is the one with the vertices, not the UltraSonic one

    2) The professor type strap was not included, nor does the attachment on the outer part of the pad even exist for one.

Not big things but as I finally got around to reading this while handling my pads I was intrigued by the differences.

I have several in this thread.  Let me know if you need more.

Thank you, appreciate it. I think I figured out the perspective of the first picture, it's showing the inside of the front and the back of the C/A, right?

They're sold out at the moment, but try here

None of the components are particularly hard to find - it's elastic, velcro, and a snap button assembly. Any of the small accessory manufacturers can probably put something together for you

That is the only source I found, I'll keep an eye on it. I could probably make one if I could source the elastic, without having to get way too much.

  7. Anyone know a source for fight straps / tie downs? I have one on my CCM pro and the lack of it when I wear my Warrior feels so different. I feel the unit moves around a lot less when attached to the back of the pants.

Has anyone developed a substitute if a real strap can't be found?

They are now the same. You can verify this by looking at the cage model which is printed on the cage itself.

White mask is 960, black mask is NMEOne. Both use the Bauer "GRW SS" cage (certified stainless cage).

Same thing holds true for the masks with the cat-eye. Both would use the Bauer "GRW NC SS" cage (non-certified stainless cage).

Thank you for the pictures, that's as definitive as it gets. Much appreciated.

Personally I'd go for 960 the newer model but they only come in white, you could do a wrap. The xpm came out like 6 years ago, you can check sidelineswap or Facebook groups for some in good condition but it's rare.

The VTX comes in white too.

Yeah I've looked pretty much everywhere so this was more of a hail mary than anything. I've got a lot of white in my collection so was hoping to find the more distinctive grey/silver and carbon fiber black look of the respective models.

  10. Was there ever any verification one way or the other if now the NME cages and the Profile cages are the same? I know the mount positions on the shells are different but that's not a big deal. In the Bauer catalog the certified cages are the same SKU number in the mask specifications, so I'm thinking they may be the same dimensions now.

  11. Any chance a Warrior 2020 catalog has come out yet? Being out of the business makes me really miss going through all of the new stuff.
