Hey y'all, I was switching up the cage on my Protechsport this morning, and I realized I forgot to ask Michel to throw in some extra clips with my new cage — bummer. I'm heading out to a hardware store today, but I have a strong suspicion that these are not something you'd find at a local hardware store or Home Depot (can anyone confirm?). I'm not really looking to order some mask hardware kit online, or go to a hockey store before my next skate (none are particularly local, and we're hosting guests this weekend). I guess if worse comes to worse, I can just put the old dented cage back on for one more game, but I was wondering:

Can I just used a pair of needle-nose pliers to take the clips of my old white cage? Would that 'compromise' the strength of the clips?

Probably stupid questions, but hey, it's my face, etc.

Well you can pry off the old ones with a flat head screwdriver and reuse them. If not these ones from Home Depot work well.

Hey all, Mike here I built this 8’x 20’ ice rink in my yard it’s almost frozen I can’t slide in butterfly position and have zero balance. I got new pretty good skates recently so there’s no excuse now. Do any of you fine gentlemen know of any workouts that would benefit me most in sliding and balance? I would love to take advantage of my ice.

Hey Mike - check out some of the goaltending basics from 3E. https://www.youtube.com/user/Goalieldv1/videos - there are a bunch of Goaltending Basics videos that will let you take advantage of that cool sheet of ice you made.

Wow - thanks for sharing, @lummy31 That Vic in the last pic looks soooo heavy. Can't imagine using one of those today.

Just curious - and not meaning to pry - but what was the reason for all that travel? That's quite an impressive list of places you've been! (Though you'd assume that when born in Toronto, you're already in the center of the universe, which precludes the need to go anywhere else!)

That stick was not as heavy as it looks since it was about 19" paddle... and I still have it. My dad saved it when he pulled it from the road hockey pile a few years after it was replaced since it was my very first goal stick. As to living in various parts of the world I work in the tech industry - principally wireless (phones) - so as its being developed or pioneered you where it goes to maximize market potential.

  4. Hey all,

Been a full time goalie since 1977 when at 10yrs old my cousin gave me his Fibrosport mask that I coveted. And bang I had to wear a combo instead due to rules. Born in Toronto and now live in Austin TX. With stops in various places around the world - Helsinki, Leningrad (back when it was called that), Palo Alto, London England, Tokyo and a few others. Everywhere I've lived hockey has been the one constant - and the greatest people too. Love being a goalie and the continual learning to keep playing the game at good level. Was a member of GSBB before the house cleaning, and again afterward. Miss that place, but happy to have found this one. Figured it might be cool to show pic from 1st season as a goalie and one from US Nationals this year in Tampa. And one learning some new techniques this past summer.

  5. @Wonder35 I have admired your mask since the old GSBB days. Great story too. I have a few stories as well as I've actually known Greg for about 40yrs, since I was 11yrs old. Spent a few Friday nights in the shop in Brampton - sometimes tinkering, sometimes talking hockey, sometimes just looking for stuff (you've been so you know what I mean). And recently visited with a couple old friends back in March. Here's a picture from that visit. Me down in front (no I'm not that short I was slightly squatting), my friend Eric in back, flanked by Tony and Greg. I'll post some pics of my Harrison masks soon.
