    Hey Redrook,

Nice mask, is it me or does your chin look really short? Do you have a better side view shot, doesn't look like the chin drops much.

    Thanks,

Sorry I'm not on here much. No definitely not a short chin, must be the camera angle. I have a fairly long chin and get good coverage from this mask. Here's a side view. This is the Theodore (which is also the Luongo, Fichaud etc.)

Here are some photos of my family of Protechsport masks including my new Lalime mould with my now retired Thibault mould and my Roy replica.

Those are gorgeous! But just FYI, the Thibault and Lalime moulds are the same. Taken from the Protechsport website:

    There are four models

    • Roy
    • Brodeur
    • Belfour (triangular vent holes)
    • Theodore (identical to Lalime, Jiggy, Thiabult, Garon, Luongo, Fichaud, Aebischer and Brochu)

Sorry to read about your paint, but it's great to read Michel did what he could to take care of you.

I'm not a huge fan of "social media justice" or raking a business over the coals GGSU style, but I do think it is important to share the name of the painter as a potential buyer beware.  If I'm reading between the lines right, I'm guessing this is one of the painters Michel contracts out to.

This is just my personal opinion, and you don't have to if you don't feel comfortable.

Yeah it is one of Michel's painters, and while I would like to name names, it looks like I'm in the minority and I haven't read anything else bad about that painter - which is another reason I was so disappointed with his work. It honestly looked like someone who had never painted a mask before had done it. The other work I've seen of his looks great. I can't be bothered with backlash from fanboys and since I don't think it'll make any difference I won't name.

I will share a pic of one example, which I found just ridiculous. Basically there was a space (top pic), so I asked the painter what he thought would work there, and the next message I get is the lower picture. No joke. Literally painted in with a brush by hand. Clearly couldn't care. I would have happily paid for more time to get a better result, but didn't even get the option. I loved elements of his work, but some things (like this) were just utter crap. He also ignored specific instructions I gave him despite having plenty of opportunity.

  4. Just received my Protechsport from Michel yesterday, bit of a long wait as I ordered and paid on 26 April last year but my mold only arrived with him 4th June. Thankfully I've had no hockey going on so it has made no real difference. Overall I am extremely happy with the result. I mean, it's a Michel Doganieri mask after all!

I went for full kevlar and the Theodore mold, which as his website says is the same as the Lalime, Jiggy, Denis, Thibault, Garon, Luongo, Fichaud, Aebischer and Brochu. I've noticed some confusion about this, but I'd put any variances down to adjusting the mold to the individual head mold.

Rubatex foam and chin sling. I also asked for Lefebrvre style cage clips and foam, which he hasn't done unfortunately. Reading back our emails I possibly wasn't clear enough about that, and I'll get him to send me some clips. The stock rubatex design is simpler anyway, so will be easier to replace.

Unfortunately I had a huge problem with the painter (which Michel was pissed off about too). Basically the guy didn't get in touch despite me repeatedly asking him to in order to discuss my design. Never discussed the design with me, just cracked on and didn't listen. Only got in touch when he was in the middle of the job, and still didn't do specific things I asked for. I rejected the work because it was nothing like what I asked for, and it was really poor quality. It went back to Michel and he put it back to white for me for free. He was very sympathetic about this and angry at the painter. Unfortunately I still need to pay something for the crap work as the painter charged Michel to get the mask back, and of course I don't want him to be out of pocket even though he's told me it's up to me whether I pay for it.

So overall a bit of a mixed experience. Really good communication from Michel, but let down by some details missing and the experience with the painter (which wasn't Michel's fault at all).

For the price and the quality I would definitely order from him again though.

Time for a new cage on my Protechsport mask.... Anyone know if any off-the-shelf cages fit, or do I need to get in touch with Michel to have him send me one?

    Thanks in advance!

Check with Michel but goalieparts sell cages for his masks (which are OTNY). But if you're ordering from them you might as well order from Michel instead.

Looks like the ma2000 to me, I’ll post some pics of mine. It isn’t quite as old csa sticker is for 2008 which is around when I got it new I think? It’s a solid helmet I like mine.

Olie cages are soft as butter mine is super bent. Goalieparts/otny sells replacement cat eye cages for the ma2000.

If you need anymore pics or measurements let me know

Thanks, it did indeed turn out to be a MA2000 shell, which I believe was a good quality mask - someone kindly sent me a spare cage they had and it fits perfectly. When I get around to it I'm going to refurb and move the side cageclip holes to fit an Eddy cage I think. The top and bottom holes should work just fine (with the top cage clips pointing upwards rather than downards). The Olie cages are just horrible looking.

  7. Bumping this thread for the first time in a couple of months!

I've just picked up this old Olie, believe it's a 1999 going by the HECC sticker. I think it's an MA2000, but does anyone know better? Seems like a nice enough mask, at least full fiber, could have kevlar layer, and has a fiberglass backplate.

Secondly, what other cages will fit these? I have a feeling Bauer NME might, but Profile cages do not, they are too flat at the bottom and are just in the wrong place for the side cage clip holes. Olie cages just look so crap I want to fit something better after I refurb it.

  8. Ok so I've had a reply from Warrior, can confirm that the G5 snr+ are SINGLE internal break, below the knee obviously where the outer break is. That's cool.

So if you look at trav4 vids or the new hrca vid the gr was a super soft thigh

You could bend it back on itself.

Try that with a gt and the top of the pad folds to the top of the knee roll not the whole thigh rise

Yeah I've seen both, by "gr" you mean G4 right? Yeah it was very bendy because it was an internal double break. And I know that the RGT was stiffer. I want to know if the G5 senior is stiffer than the G4 - the G5 in the hockeyreviews.ca video is a pro with custom extra stiff thigh rise.

Personally thing they add a higher break

What do you mean? There is a high break on the G5? so it's a double internal?

  11. 7 minutes ago, coopaloop1234 said:

The knee rolls on the RGT line are very minimal. By all intents and purposes it plays like a flat faced pad.

    just FYI

👍 Thanks will bear that in mind

I believe they have finally gone with a single, but don't quote me on it.

Fingers crossed because that is something which has put me off the G4, and I want a flat faced pad this time so the RGT is out.

  13. 17 minutes ago, coopaloop1234 said:

Exactly about the stiffness. I know the G3/4 lines were internal double break whereas the RGT lines are just single outer/inner break. My GT1 softened up quote a bit but till nothing like a double break.

Yes I have heard that the RGT is actually stiffer than the G4. Do you know if the G5 is double or single internal? I doesn't even seem to be on the Warrior website yet.

If you're just grabbing a pair off the shelf and don't put too much emphasis into get Hypercomp and stiffer thrighrise, I'd just go the Senior route.

I put a pair of senior R/GT 1's through the ringer and they held up very well and never had any issues with performance, durability, and protection.

Keep in mind that the difference between a Warrior pad with and without the hypercomp is very noticeable. My thighrise on my R/GT2 Pros are night and day difference compared to my senior set.

That's interesting, do you mean in terms of thighrise stiffness? I used to use Velocity (double break) and now in Eflex (single break) so never super stiff pads, as long as it doesn't flop around like an old double break pad I won't mind.

    Thats what got spouted

They used last yr pro internals as the new snr internal. But that could be bs for sure

There ment to be stiffer for sure

    But the g4 was soft.

The g5 all be it int were soft esp when compared to a bauer 3s int that was like a surfboard

Oh I see, you mean the pro internals from the previous year.

Hmm, I suppose if I get some I can always return them. From looking at the pros there's not a flex point below the thigh rise, which killed the G4s, I wonder if it's the case for the snrs.

  16. 14 hours ago, cuprajake said:

It was my understanding that they tend to use the previous yrs internals in the snr stuff,

If that was correct then they would never change the internals, so unless the G5s have G1 internals there must be some difference.

That's disappointing if they are still soft, the G5s are supposed to be their stiff pad.

  17. This is the exact question I came here to ask. I know there wasn't much difference between the G4 pro and sr, so is that the same with the G5s?

Any improvement over the G4 floppy thigh rise is good, is the snr still stiffer than that? The pro is just insanely expensive in the UK, but the snr is ok and I'm very tempted. Was looking at Passau but no import taxes on the G5s and the quality seems a little better.

Pardon my ignorance but are his masks THAT good that people will Waite 6+ months for one? Just seems like a crazy amount of time to wait for something. I see on his website it’s 33 weeks that’s so long to wait.

He's made masks for some of the biggest names in NHL history. He made masks for Lefebvre in the 80s and 90s, and he'll do almost anything you want in a mask. And his prices are fantastic. For other makers of the same pedigree you're paying a lot more - like Harrison (arguably the godfather to be fair) who is $1800USD for fiberglass only, and Dillon who is $1000USD.

Nobody is going to be playing any time soon so the wait doesn't really matter to me.
