How quickly do you need a new mask ? If you can wait go the Protechsport route and get the mask style you want too. Michels work is amazing and you'll get a custom fit mask made to your head not off the shelf fit. I own 2 of them and couldn't be more happy with Protechsport masks.

Yeah I mean I guess I can wait. I'm just waiting for someone to tell me to go to CCM route because it's easier and quicker haha! My instinct says to do what you said though.

  2. Looking for the Potvin / Harrison shell and good protection, so I was planning on ProtechSport.  But now the CCM XF comes out, not exactly the look but close enough, and not the old Itech style that all the masks look like now, seems like good protection too, but like $300 USD more than Protech....however I can get it right away and not wait 30weeks.  I also have a gift card to PH so the $999 is now $899 +tax

    Thoughts?

  3. Surgeon here in RI is a BHR (Birmingham Hip Resurfacing) specialist and it seemed like the way to go instead of a total hip.  Already had a hip scope years ago but the arthritis is too much for it to help much.  One of the selling points was what you can do after and even some pros got it, with the specific mention of Backstrom.  Well....latest news seems like the BHR didn't actually work.  A little nervous about what to do now.

Nice work on the mask. And those M5's! How do you like the pads?

Love the pads, added the goalnet version of the tow ties but the glove has horrible strapping. The other bauer lines have the normal lower wrist conventional 90° strap, this thing has this angled wrist strap from like the bottom of the thumb and then diagonally across my lower wrist on the pinky side, it never feels secure I'm always fidgeting with it and I can't stand it! There's two strapping options the first one does go straight across but it's way higher on the wrist. Always feels like it's falling off I hate it. Out of the box though it was absolutely game ready, could have used it that day without breaking it in but of course I did. I despise the graphics of the line too, but the leg pads themselves are rocket ships.

  5. Interesting... So there's another headset and game component to purchase?

Also I saw the idea of putting your stuff on except your helmet and doing it at public skating or sticking puck in the corner. Also I might be freezing a 20x20-ft pad in the backyard this winter so that would be perfect as well. Again this is just because of limits that actually going to play right now

The lacking of discussio this page about it probably has more to do with the average age of posters here than anything. There's not a lot of us who aren't just slumming it up in beer leagues/pick ups.

I think it's a neat looking tool, but there's a few things stopping me from getting it:

    1. I don't have a VR headset.
    2. It's $29 or $59 USD a month or $40 or $80 CAD a month. That's far too pricey for a subscription.
    3. Limited time. With wife, kids, friends, and other hobbies, the free time I'd have for this would be minimal.
    4. A general feeling of: "I'd prefer just to go play hockey".

I think it can be a very handful practice tool for kids or pros who want to keep improving and evolving their skills. But for a 35 year old beer leaguer? Just doesn't interest me enough.

Oh okay, still I'm surprised with all the advertisements on Instagram and everything. And I agree, I don't have time for any of that sh1t I would just go play. However right now I can't play and that's the reasoning behind it. Then I also thought eventually I want to do a racing Sim setup so something like the VR headset could be saved for future use or I could just sell it on eBay and just eat a hundred bucks or so for buying it new and selling it used. In my case I need something to keep my mind in the game while I'm away from skating.

    Thanks all for the input!

  7. Did a search for this topic and only found two old threads.  I found that odd.  Is there some kind of restriction/licensing or competition with TGN so that it's not discussed or allowed here?  I dont post much so I'm generally out of the loop with that kind of stuff.

Unless its posted under something else, I'm shocked it's not a big discussion point here for goalies.  I came here to read some good discussion on it in it's current state to get some opinions.  I'm going to be limited for a while to actually go to the rink.  I thought exercises and maybe Sense Arena could hold me over and keep me in shape/alert to the game so I dont get too far out of sorts.

Is this a dead/old tech that fizzled already?

The strap to the lower part is awful. It's better in the upper position.

    If you haven't seen this:

Give this a shot. I tired it but gave up on it since I was already used to the upper connection point, but it may be a quick fix to get the feeling you're after.

Vapour gloves come with a traditional strapping set up.

You guys are great thanks.  I might try that strap position.  Gonna look at a vape tomorrow and see if I should swap

Right on dude. Glad it went well.

As for the glove, it's a 75 break, but the closing method feels closer to a 590. Probably why you found the transition so easy.

Debating changing the glove.  So, out of the box it's absolutely game ready, and I like the closure, feel, padding all.  EXCEPT, I hate the wrist strap.  It goes across at a diagonal and doesnt really secure my wrist.  The glove constantly feels like it's slipping off since the strap is more towards the middle of the back of the hand as opposed to the lower part which would have more secure feel.  Would the Vapor have the strapping I'm looking for?  I only play men's A and B so trying to stick in a certain price range too.

  10. Good thread read.  I wonder if I can tinker with the elastics by creating a 1 or 2" lace loop thru the toe bridge holes, then loop elastic thru that, giving a bit of give then the bungie

  11. Hahaha okay... Well I shall.  How so are they garbage?  And what sort of slack?  I've done about 4"on the toe ties before

And one last question... I think... Anyone squishing the pads down overnight to have a better top curve or break in?

  12. Are there any of you guys swapping out the factory bungee for looser lace toe ties? Wondering if more skate toe distance from the bottom edge of the pad would give me a tighter Apex for the five hole. With the tight strapping around the top of the calf, the pad is still being held up in the right place and tight against my leg so the bungee is serving less of a purpose in that role, and in my opinion potentially pulling the top of my pads open while down in my narrow butterfly

  13. Hey all,

In the last year or so, I'm getting excruciating shin pain like I just ran a marathon and the shin splint feel.

I think it's the twisting of my ankle and then getting up each time.  Gets to the point I can barely handle the throbbing when I'm trying to push the brake or accelerator in the car on the ride home.  The shin is sensitive to the touch.  I'm not sure if there's muscles there or tendons which connect to the bone.  I would assume muscles.  Its not a joint, so an ortho might not help.  At a loss right now, but it's getting really bad.

  14. Not the Larceny's?? Hahah.  I had Larceny's and they were alright for me but I've never seen so much hatred.  THat's when I was fairly new so I didn't know better, and frankly still dont remember what was so bad about them.  The weight?
