    Yo, that's my queue.

I have a confirmed 4mm labral tear in my left hip (that I probably had fully form in like 2022, frankly). I originally got sent on a 6 week PT stint (by my orthopedic) and then got the okay to test it. Shit still hurt pretty bad oops.

So then I finished the season, and have been on a 3 months PT, no playing (was still coaching but not demoing stuff for the kids) stint. I finally got to test it again this week (Tuesday) and it hurt pretty bad, but I had also just gotten a booster shot and I think that made everything hurt, because oddly enough zero pain the next day (including at PT). I'm testing again tomorrow in the early afternoon, so I'll report back (tomorrow!) with hopefully a better outing. I think I'm going to use my more set of steel.

The longer summary is my PT has been entirely strength training. My routine is basically: warm-up on a bike for 8 minutes, get stretched out, single leg bridges, resistance band with fondas and sideways knee spreads, high resistance with side steps and backwards-diagonal steps, squats (I'm up to 175 lbs on the bar) at 3 sets of 6 with two lead up sets at lower weights, 3x10 deadlifts with a trap bar (170 lbs thus far), 2x15 2sec pause weighted (8 kg) split squats, 2x10 kick backs on a shuttle at I think 40 lbs, 3x15 single leg lying press at 120 lbs, weighted (12 kg) 3x10 1 foot step ups, 3x20sec side planks (adductor and abductor), 1x15 reverse deadlift with 16 kg, farmer carry (each hand has 22 kg) followed by single arm with same weight, 3x45sec resistance banded wall sit, and I might be forgetting something else. It's a pretty good workout and has yielded me a certified dumptruck for a posterior.

It's been awhile, and sometimes it does feel kind of like it hurts. If your pain is like mine, it's a very specific and pointed burning feeling right in the socket. What sucks for me is that I have rather loose ligaments, so my hips (and shoulders) are totally fine dropping out of socket in certain positions. This is cool and all for being able to do the splits, but awful for the soft tissue. I sometimes go through days/efforts where I wish they'd just rip it up and repair it, even if that means I'll be out for 6 months, but I have to remain hopeful other times too.

Thanks for all of this! That strength routine seems pretty great, how often are you doing that? Somewhere over the last couple of years I fell out of going to the gym consistently and I feel like I'm truly paying for it now.

The function of the labrum is to provide stability.  When it tears, that hip now has to rely more heavily on the musculature around it to keep the femoral head centered and the joint happy.

Your best bet will be drills that then work on improving that stability.  Get strong in your end ranges of motion, under control using the actual muscles around the hip and not by turning and twisting at the spine.  I like doing my hip CARS lying on my side, for example.  It prevents you from cheating and hiking up a hip to get extra range of motion.

I would also actually strongly recommend Maria's strategic mobility for goalies program.

    https://www.strategicmobilityforgoalies.com/

I went through it a couple times and noticed some really nice improvements in how I felt.  If you're getting any pinching, I would add some banded distractions to create space in the joint before working through some of these end ranges.

    Good luck!

Oh I just bought this course a couple months before my injury. I'll definitely get started with it now! Thanks!

  3. Played a game at the end of February where I stretched out for a save and noticed something felt off, it wasn't bad in the moment but I woke up the next morning and could barely walk. Ended up getting a MRI and a surgical consult and was told that I have a labral tear in my left hip. Doc was pretty confident I didn't need surgery right now and recommended 6 months of PT and then we'd reevaluate.  I'm about a month in to my PT journey and things have been going fine. I've been 95% pain free up until last week when my hip flared up again, and maybe this is a bit of the pain talking, but I'm having a hard time believing PT is going to actually help me get back to playing in net. I've been cleared to skate out so that's been nice to have but I definitely miss being in net.

Curious to know if anyone here has dealt with any hip labral issues and what, if anything, helped you return to the net, PT, surgery, etc.

Awesome! I have mine coming hopefully end of this coming week. Got rid of the Mach and trying the vapor 90.

how was the closure out of the box? I could never get the Mach to close fully or comfortably

Nice! I honestly wasn't expecting mine for another couple of weeks but got the email Tuesday that it shipped.

Closure out of the box was better than expected. Feels nice and snappy but not too loose, I imagine I'd feel a little looser without the reinforced T. Light years better than my HL2 glove but that was off the shelf retail so kinda to be expected.

The Mach grip print will be the nash material with the silicone grip points in the fingers.

HL2 catch grip will be the grey sure grip material with silicone grip points in the fingers.

US Nash will just be a nash material.

The neoprene finger loops is part the HL2 build as a whole, I'm fairly certain you can't escape it when ordering that glove at all.

If you order a Vapour 90, Mach, or Ultrasonic glove, you'll get the traditional leather pinky and thumb loops.

    I appreciate the clarification!

Oof, just when I was starting to like a 60 degree break again apparently its Vapor90 or finally go back to my True glove and just rock it al la Filip Gustavsson style up until this year 😂

  6. So I'm debating about ordering a new Hyperlite2 glove and I had a question regarding the "Palm Material" option. I absolutely despise the grippy fingers material and neoprene pinky/thumb loops in my current HL2 glove, is that part of the "hyperlite catch grip" option? If I ordered a HL2 glove or Vapor90 with either the "ultrasonic nash" or "mach grip print" would I get things back like traditional leather loops and no more "grippy" finger stall material?

The HL2 glove is one of the main reasons I stopped using my set entirely. Just using my G6 set for this year

It's such a shame because I really love the pads and blocker. I need to get my hands on a Vapor90 to see if it would be worth ordering otherwise I guess I can just go back to my 9x3 glove.

  8. For those of you with the hyperlite2 glove… how do I learn how to like this thing 😂? Coming from CCM/True gloves, this thing just seems so flimsy. The neoprene pinky and thumb rings are super annoying and it constantly feels like my hand is slipping out of the glove. I’ve never needed to tighten a wrist strap on a glove but if I don't practically tighten it all the way down it feels like it’s going to fall off. This is my first time in a Bauer glove and I absolutely love the rest of the set but this glove is just not cutting it for me.

  9. Bit of an impulse buy but I've been wanting to get a set of Bauers for a long time now and a work bonus showed up that I wasn't quite expecting. Getting these on the ice tomorrow and I'm super stoked. I immediately like the blocker feel more than my 9X3 blocker. I've only ever been in CCM/Lefevre gloves so this Bauer one will probably take some getting used to, there's so many velcro points so I probably just need to adjust it a little to feel more comfortable. Pads feel like the perfect blend of rigidity/flex and I'm really looking forward to seeing the rebounds off these things as my last "hard" pad were the Axis1.9s and I felt like my EF5s had bigger rebounds.

Lol is this for real? That's so loud and creaky 😬 I don't think any of the internals would be broken though. They're just very, very creaky. Can't say I've ever seen that before. I briefly had a 9x3 set before returning them, but I don't recall them having that issue...maybe some other True owners can chime in.

Oh it’s for real. I feel like the video doesn’t even do it justice, it’s an awful sound. What weird is that my old set of 7x3s don’t do this and this pair didn’t start doing it until just recently. I’ve got a warranty question out to my retailer about this but wow is this super bizarre.

  11. This was a less than pleasant surprise during warmups. Not sure when or how this happened but got it replaced via warranty and swapped it for a 9x3 blocker. Only made it 10 skates with the 7x3 blocker 😐

On a different note, do any of yalls thigh rises creak or have a crunching sound? I noticed this last night that my 7x3 pads were making some odd noises when I rested my hands on them but figured it might just be the jenpro rubbing together. I just took a look at them again this morning and they're making creaky/crunchy noises with just minimal pressure on the thigh rise... a bit worried the composite broke or something. I've got a different set of 7x3s that I'm selling and they don't make any noises like that.

Pretty sure his pads are actually 12.2s.

Yeah, looks like Px3 skinned 12.2s. I've noticed quite a few guys going back to 12.2s, wonder what that's about.

  13. Sizing question for the brain trust.

When I went in to look at the 7x3s I fully expected to be in a 32 based on everything I read. The guy at my LHS that fitted me was pretty adamant about getting me in a 33. I took his word and through 6 or so games haven't really had any issues, just the awkwardness of adjusting to stiffer thighs, but I've been curious about the 32s. There weren't any 32s locally so I ended up ordering a pair online with the idea of if they don't fit I can just return them.

Well, the 32s arrived. First picture is where I'm landing in the 33s and second is where I'm landing on the 32s. To me it doesn't seem that much of a difference and I'm a bit hesitant to keep the 32s but I'd love yalls advice on which ones I should be keeping. Is there a benefit to going with the smaller pad? I've always gone with the larger pad for a bit of additional coverage and my only real gripe with the 33s is skating is sometimes a bit more awkward and cumbersome but the 32s kinda felt a bit better just walking around in my basement with my gear on.

  14. **Not Px3 related but more Catalyst line related, so feel free to tell me to kick rocks if this isn't the right place.

Got my 7x3/9x3 set on the ice for the first time today and all I can say is wow.

The slide and seal on the 7x3 pads is way better than my EF5s. FRS is amazing, still need to dial it in a bit on the lower strap but had zero rotational issues. I don't have the widest butterfly and I was a bit worried that the stiff thigh rise would be an issue but I honestly don't think my flare has ever looked better. Stability while pushing was amazing too. Really just blown away here comparing a "senior" level pad to a "pro" custom pad but it's seriously night and day for me.

7x3 blocker is a Lefevre blocker. Doesn't feel a whole lot different than my EF4 or EF5 except that it feels a lot tighter on the hand.

9x3 glove is a 590. My EF5 is a 580 which I've enjoyed but something always felt off. Had an EF4 590 before that and liked it so I'm excited to be back in a 590 for now and see how it goes. Got it baked in the store and for an off the shelf retail glove I'm pretty impressed. Closes well. Feels a little tight on the hand but I'm sure using it more will get it opened up a bit.

Overall extremely excited. Gonna give it a few more skates before I decide to keep it or not but I'm already kind of leaning towards selling my EF5 set. Really kicking myself for not placing a custom order back when it was 8 weeks. Until then, the all black set will have to do.

I’ve been having more fun at no pressure shinnys.

    Less leagues, more this.

I was talking to a guy in one of my leagues about a past game where I got lit up and the other team scored 8 goals and his response was "Why do you remember how many goals they scored". That really resonated with me. I do a terrible job of wiping the slate after games and tend to carry the bad ones with me for a while. We're all competitive, we all wanna win, but it takes a team to win. I was holding 92% save losses over my head like it was my fault we only scored 1 goal. You think forwards leave the game thinking about all the shots they put directly into the other goalies chest or you think defensemen stay awake at night thinking about the absolute muffins they fired straight up the middle of the d-zone? As someone who skated out for over 15 years before putting on the pads, no, no they dont and they will absolutely do it again. So why do we feel we need to carry that pressure?

I put the pads away in the beginning of June and started skating out a bit more and hitting the gym as I needed a good break. For whatever reason, getting away from the position just made me love it even more. Played in net for the first time since my break on Wednesday and had an absolute ball. It was just a pickup game but I made a conscious effort to focus more on the good saves I made and the things I could control vs all the other chaos that comes with the position. Hoping to be able to continue this mindset and bring it with me into the fall and winter seasons.

I'm guessing you'll have some free time between end of summer and winter. I'd take that time and focus back on the things that made you love the position. Play more "no pressure" pickups, focus on having fun and making saves, who cares about the goals you let in. Remember, that puck got through 5 other players before you, you're not letting in "muffins" all alone.

  16. Everyones opinion on these pads still good? I've been in an EF5 set that I honestly love for over a year now but I'm coming to terms with the fact that they might be just a bit big on me. Been debating on a used set of Ultrasonics or these. I've used the blocker in the past with an older set so I know how that plays but I'm a bit worried about jumping down to that 2nd price point when it comes to durability and protection.
