That actually sounds like a ton of fun. They've tried doing 4v4 draft leagues on full sheets here and it's just...not fun as a goalie. Your 3v3 format sounds like a fun take on pick-up style hockey.

It’s a ton of fun with the smaller ice surface. Lots of shots, they used to keep track, the most I had in a game was 75. A lot of odd man rushes, penalties are penalty shots, and you get to play the puck a lot too. I’ve got two empty netters so far and just missed another one a couple weeks ago. You just have to not beat yourself up over letting in goals, cause it happens.... a lot!

Those are the pint-size rinks, right?

That’s right. It’s about 2/3 the size of a regular rink. No face offs, offensive team just clears the blue line for goals and goalie freezing the puck. It’s a different game but a lot of fun.

  3. It must be new mask day! I picked up my Coveted 906 Pro today. I’m loving it so far. Ron was awesome through the process. I couldn’t find a helmet that felt really good. I went down to Ron’s shop to check out his masks. He gave me a tour and showed me how they make their masks. It was pretty cool to see! I tried a few on and we took the one that fit best and made a few changes to the shape of it. I guess you could call it semi-custom since it was from a stock mold and we added a few tweaks to it. My mask was made and ready for pick up in less than two weeks. It was a pretty cool process and can’t wait to get it on the ice! I would highly recommend going with Coveted if you need a new mask.

Price 4/1. Customizer will have a few options including choosing custom colors.

Will they be in store anywhere? Or can I go to your shop?

@Matt35  The protection is better on the XPG1. the XPG1 is designed for tuckers like you ;)

Haha. Tucker’s right.....weirdest of the weird! What options are on the pant customizer? Do you have price point? Or do we have to wait til 4/1?

  6. I have a pair of Pro Spec 870 pants and they are tanks. Never had an issue with them. Thinking of replacing them with a new pair of XPG1’s. @McKenney Hockey How does the protection compare? I’m looking for a wider fit at the waist for tucking my chesty too. How do the XPG1’s fit?

  7. It looks like a mask will be my next purchase and I’m definitely interested in a Coveted mask. Does anyone know what type of foam they use, or foam options? Would a mask straight off the shelf at a store be priced much differently than a custom mask from their factory?

Thanks for any of your answers

I WISH I could go custom. However the carbon version of the PVE or the VE8 is just out of my budget.. :(

If you’re not going Carbon I would recommend checking out the Ventus. You may want a bit stiffer pad if you’re not going Carbon cause they will most likely soften up over time. And they’re cheaper than PVE and VE8.

Leaning towards the VE8's.. I definitely prefer the strapping system on the PVE's, Im just worried they'll be too soft.

If your going to be keeping the pads for awhile what about custom? They might be able to stiffen up the PVE or change the strapping on the VE8

*** I just came across a pair of XF Pro Carbon on clearance for almost the same price as both the PVE and VE8's!

Any thoughts as per comparing these to the PVE/VE8'S ??

The V7’s are definitely heavier than PVE and VE8. Also a few more straps.

In the end it comes down to preference. If you like them and are comfortable in them...go for it.

Just wondering how soft and flexible this pad really is compared to the VE8....? I find that just by playing with em in store that the VE8 feels a little stiffer, its just so hard to tell without strappin' up and getting on the ice.

Did you go carbon? Not entirely convinced the jump in price is worth it.

They’re pretty similar in stiffness. The VE8 has a stiffer ankle break. Pads are always a tough buy if you can’t try them on the ice. Definitely try them on in store with skates, knee pads, and pants.

I did go Carbon. They did seem like they are made a bit better (and made in  Canada!). The regular ones are extremely soft without the Carbon in them. Really just comes down to feel and how long you plan on using them for. I have weave material on the inside to help with sliding and durability.

I really love the strapping on them. Not a big fan of the magnetic buckles on the VE8’s, and I’ve heard complaints of them coming undone.

I’m using Pro V Elite pads and gloves. Used the pads about 20 times and the gloves 3 times. That pic is definitely the internal strapping. If you have any other questions about them fire away, I’d be happy to answer. So far I’m loving the set!!

Did you ask for any custom options other than the embroidery? I am considering ordering one in the next 6 months or so, literally can't beat the price-to-protection ratio for a new chest protector. Frankly I'm surprised how expensive stock retail units are these days, especially from the companies that make them overseas at a fraction of the cost of the North American made ones. Oh well, it's the way of the world.

    Back on topic :).

Haha....yes, boggles my mind certain companies charge the same for their Pro line gear made overseas as the ones that make them here. But anyways, no other custom options, just the Pro Pack. I dealt with Tim and he was awesome! Answered all my questions, and there was a lot of them. Definitely worth reaching out to him, you won’t be disappointed!

I wish they'd round out the bicep and forearm blocks instead of just flat like that. The forearms would fit better in the gloves IMO. Wouldn't mind if they segmented the shoulder floaters right where it reads Passau. It would help with them taking shape to the body.

I haven’t noticed an issue with the forearms fitting into the gloves yet but I hear what you’re saying. Segmented floaters would be a great option, there isn’t much play in them but don’t seem to be in the way.....true test will be on the ice!

I mean I could try emailing them except I have no idea what I’m talking about lol, so it might be easier for you to

So it turns out it’s actually called Honeycomb. When they order the pads last year Vaughn was running low on the material. I’m told they used it years ago on a set of gear for Kevin Weekes. Might be something you have to contact Vaughn directly for, if they can still get the material.
