My wife is looking to buy a new 4runner. They're impossible to get. Figures.

I've an '08 now that just rolled 100,000 miles, I love it. I keep window shopping newer ones but can't justify the cost with minimal benefits. If they ever did a hybrid I'd be all over it, the current MPG is terrible.

In the picture on the left the pads aren't sitting even.   The pic on the right shows that the G5 has the profile lock engaged, pulling the top of the pad down further than the G4.  It also appears that the pads on the right are not exactly even with each other all the way up.  I'm not saying it was done on purpose, but you can manipulate pads that are only 1/2" different in height to look exactly the same in a 2D image pretty easily.

It wasn't my intention to show that they're the same size. I have tried to adjust the profile lock to keep the pad taller, not sure it it was before or after that photo, pretty sure it was before though. I'll see how they play, I was really hoping for them to be a little taller as I occasionally land high on the 33s.

  3. I came across this topic because I had a similar question after having the 33+1.5" G4s, and recently picking up a set of 34+1.5" G5s (both senior level). Side-by-side comparison seems to show them being the same size, the top of the pads line up, the knee areas line up, it seems very similar. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

As long as the lace doesnt get further undone from there, I couldn't imagine it being a large issue

a tight knot should hold them in place and I don't think your pad will fall apart

    Great, thanks for the reassurance.

  5. Not sure if this is on this topic exactly, but you guys seem well versed in Bauer gear. I recently picked up a slightly used set of the Bauer 3S pads to try out. I got them the other day and noticed the inner vertical lacing is 'cut' near the toe. I was able to tie it off, I'm just wondering if this is going to be a huge issue, or if I'm worried for little or nothing. Any advice would be appreciated.

My experience wasn't 100% great, it also took a long time. Would have been better to have a phone conversation but he wouldn't. I feel like you need to design it and he'll just do it, he just has the equipment.  Know what I mean? What was your issue? Did you pay a deposit?

This was back in November of '19. It had only gotten to the point of design where I sent a description and high quality images to be composited together, that was where it was left, never hear back. I know he is very busy, his work is amazing, it was just disappointing based on the other feedback I'd heard about him. I guess we can't all have nice things. 😉
