I'll take a look at this and give it a try then report back! Thank you! The major problem with the GSX skates for me was a depth issue. I'm just barely failing the pencil test and I also had to remove my Yellow Superfeet because it actually made my foot closer to the laces so when cranking for heel lock I would get even worse lacebite. I only bought the Yellow Super Feet because of foot pain, but it turns out after skating with flat insoles (stock) and loose laces mid to toe that foot pain 100% went away.

Hopefully this method you linked works! I just need to watch how low I go with my laces because any amount of snug laces past the ankle causes cramping.

    ---

I'm currently doing a variation of this but with only two eyelets for the lace set.

    My Pictures below:

    image.png.136af726863b32580254ce66ed671626.png
I make a bridge first so this part doesn't dig into my foot so outside in on both parts.

    image.png.79e9719606df1d0b49e92cd5d5b6bba0.png
Then I take that lace and do a loop to the top eyelet for the heel lock.

    image.png.37f9625e8e16f5e1932d6f14357539df.png
After that I would take the lace ends for each side and put them through their opposites for the heel lock and use two or three unders for the first knot and then a double bow.

I have all the other eyelets below on its own lace pretty with zero tension.

It's not a surprising that you have some lace bite issues. The felt tongue is so thin in GSX skates that is clearly worn out already. Lacing tricks might help some time because there is some fresh foam in tongue but it wont last forever.

    1. I think you need some rest if your feet are inflamed and painful.

    2. You have to make felt tongue thicker and stronger.

    3. Try wider non.waxed laces.

Where can someone buy a stick with a non-standard paddle length?

I'm asking, because I normally use 26" sticks, but I tried a 24.5" Bauer RX6 stick in a shop when waiting for my skates to be repaired. The only.reason I didn't pull the trigger was because there was only one of that stick.

When I went on the  Pure Hockey website  to look at stick lengths, both for custom and retail sticks, I only saw sticks in whole-inch increments (24", 25", or 26"). Are there any sources I could check to reliably find sticks in non-standard lengths (or order custom sticks in those lengths)?

    Thanks!

That is not non-standard or custom stick, it's 12 years old model and Bauer used to mark sticks like that. It's identical with current 23".

If I remember right 27" was 28,5", 26" was 27", 25" was 26,5" and 23" was 24,5". Bauer's measurement way was different between foamcores and composites. They changed the measurement way when they released 1S line.

    Couldn't tell ya.

When he plays for his actual team, he's in warrior pants and fairly certain a Warrior c/a.

This setup he's in Bauer pants and his c/a is much smaller. Warrior c/a's aren't NHL legal, and I'm assuming those same sizing constraints carry over to the IIHF as well.

I guess one thing in NHL rules says that velcros are not allowed and all NHL goelies wear custom c/a's. But I bet 99% of young euro goalies use stock models and those should be ok in IIHF games. But there is lot of velcros in Warrior c/a's and E+/PRO+ might be oversizes as well.

Don't forget RXS masks and Wall masks. Seems like there's some great masks that come out of Europe.

I think Wall and Kova are only Euro- brands in NHL. Not sure about underwear etc. , maybe Aycane because they made underwear for Timo Meier (if I remember correctly).

And Jofa heritage lives strongly in CCM gear.

Mark Hockey is now actively exploring the KHL and perhaps, when the situation allows, he will try to go to Europe and North America. like Micklin once did. the set you showed is impressive, but I and many people have an ambiguous attitude towards MH

    Not gonna happen. 💀

  6. If you have twisted and/or ankle + low/high arch the first thing I would do is go to running shoe shop and scan your feet. Maybe they can help you to find the right insoles. After that you can maybe buy new skates if you still need one.  Skate scanners just tell you a correct size etc, those scanners don't tell whats wrong with your feet. Basically same thing with custom skates, if you have a problem foot they make a skate for problem foot but don't solve the real problem. You might have skates wich don't hurt but your feet are still twisted.

Even in the Euro leagues where Warrior has a presence in the pad department, it feels like most guys who are wearing them are due to sponsorship. (evident by the head to toe Warrior gear). A lot of those guys switch out once they're traded. Usually going to True/Bauer.

Almost all Euro Pro goalies wear the brand of their team sponsor. If they change a team , they must change a brand. Of course the are different kind of deals, some team might have deal with one brand but special goalie deal with alternative brand. Sometimes you see goalie with no logos gear but basically that means he is an ex NHL- goalie and has special contract. CCM and Bauer are big in Scandinavia and Warrior has solid market share in Germany/Central Europe. Russia is different because goalie purchases gear what he wants and nowadays what he can get.

Of course Warrior hopes that some of their Euro goalies would sign to NHL but that hasn't happened. Scott Clemmensen, Roloson and Gustavsson wore G1's. Tim Thomas used G2's 10 years ago. So hopefully Warrior would be back in NHL. Warrior has made goalie gears maybe 13-14 years so these young NHL- goalies/prospects are the first generation who might started their career wearing Warrior gear.

Just an fyi the 8k was not a pro model.  It was 6k for the lowest senior model and 8k was a step up.  The 6k felt like cardboard and may have been okay for ball hockey.  I'm sure the 8k may have been okay for inline but they had a pro model on top of all that that would have been much more appropriate for ice.  I used 6k pads for inline and they only lasted because I had slide plates on them.  They did turn into Vaughn pads after a few years.  So squishy.  Hope everthing works out.

Ok, RBK 8K is 15 years old model so I guess there might be something newer and shinier options. But not everyone needs a pro glove and pro glove is not only option if you play ice hockey. His old Koho glove looks like similar to RBK 6K (printed graphics) so 8K should be more than enough.

If I remember correctly this was the first time when there was three different price points. And 8K should be "like a pro model but made in Asia". It wasn't but it was way better than 6K.

But why there is a brand new old stock glove for sale? I bet it is really stiff.

Those mini sized pucks are hard to find nowadays. Mini pucks are quite dangerous because those can go through the cat eye cage.

You need passion and emotions to gain interest in the pro sports /NHL. The networks will promote a game by showing fights and hits from two decades ago. The current teams don't care about battles of years past. Heck, most players weren't on the team 3 seasons ago. Most won't be on the team in 2 years.

The Flyers were rivals to many teams. But in the past decade? Nothing...

Blah games today are useless. Blowouts and lop sided games decades ago would turn into a competition of different skills (punching faces). NHL has abandoned that. The no fights in the last 5 minute rule has people leaving games early. WTF?

I don't know what the NHL will become. I hope that it bottoms out so bad that they have to return it to what grew them in the 90s and 2000s. I see clubs drying up (Buffalo draw anyone anymore?). The league's quest for parody has made it boring to watch.

I care more about Nascar now than the NHL.

I bet NHL could do many things better and game has changed in last decades, maybe better maybe worse. But I hate that "everything was better before", the biggest thing which has changed is YOU. You used to be a young person, now you are old and angry.  I don't follow Nascar, but I guess 40-50 years old Nascar fans say that thing were better in 90s. Music used to be good, now it's odd and you can't listen it.

I have watched only few NHL games this season and I stopped to play ice hockey, because I just don't care right now,  but it's not ice hockey's fault. I really enjoy to follow Euro- football (=soccer) and there's lot of people saying there is too much money etc. and things used to be better...

Yeah true. What about plastidip and then painting them?

That new "vintage" color looks almost better. I wouldn't do any DIY painting, I bet it would end up even worse. It is what it is.

GoaliePro out of Finland were a big user of their gear. They came up with their own brand but I'm sure Mckenney is ghosting it. Maybe Jukka (Ropponen) can confirm. He's one of the lead coaches for their pro mentorship.

Yes, Goaliepro is a distributor/importer in Finland but their own brand is/was not ghosted by McKenney. McKenney is very very small brand in Europe.

Well Mckenney has been big with some pros in Europe.

I don't follow every Euro leagues but I don't remember any pro goalie to use McKenney gear. They might have made some ghosted gears, pants and chest/arms but I wouln't say the are big with Euro pros. Normally Euro pro team has contract with Bauer, CCM or Warrior and goalies use gear of that brand. Sometimes goalies are not under that contract and can choose whatever they want.

Current Blocker+Catcher FullRight sets on sideline swap. Of course you can just search for individual items and increase the total available units to 277 or so.

There is brand new pair of Simmons gloves $450 and Petersen's new pro returns $700. And I bet you will find some Warrior GT2, G4 or G5 pro gloves on sale. I don't know which level you play but I've played with NHL players /other professionals and GT2 pro offers enough protection.  Warrior catchers are almost game ready but pro palm would be very stiff.

  15. Pro palm is a custom option and nothing to do with that extra insert. I am not a sure if that insert is even option anymore and it is/was only in G-line, not GT?

As other say I doubt that you need a pro palm when you will buy a Warrior glove.

Hello, my foot doesn’t really fit any of the Bauer fits for skates. I have the width of a fit 2 but height of fit 3, so a fit 2 is uncomfortable but fit 3 gives too much space. Does anyone know if any other brands would be able to provide a skate to fit me that is reasonably priced (true customs are too pricy) thanks.

That doesn't sound so unique. Fit 2 or 3 should be ok if the skate fits otherwise and you bake it well. But if you have a "normal" feet with just fit2 width and fit3 height, you could try to find latest Vapor skate with D width.
