  1. Never had a hip injury just yet but had my share of shoulder and ankle ones. Everyone here has had some great thoughts so I don't have much to add. All I will chime in is this:

Ligament tissues due just take time, a long time to heal. I had a severe tear in my ankle ligament and thought for sure I'd need surgery. Instead, 3 months in walking boot and 3 months light duty (no hockey at all during this time) and it healed perfectly on its own. It won't stop hurting until it's fully healed, so don't take some pain as a sign nothing is getting better. But obviously trust your docs over us haha.

Last thing. I had a bicep tendon tear that had to be surgically repaired when I was 23. I got lucky that the repair went well and is holding up mostly now 10 years later, but my current surgeon explained that any surgery, has a shelf life and will eventually lead to further complications. I'm going under this Friday and he's going to take a look at my original surgery and do any touch up that he can. I'll be babying that shoulder the rest of my life. I used to hate the typical "ah just do a bunch of PT and give it time" approach, but really if your doc says there's chance to heal naturally, it's worth completely exhausting that option before going ahead with a surgical intervention. Best of luck to you!

  2. Warrior gloves, the best of all worlds. Nuff said. Protective, closes better than the rest, durable, crazy light, better strapping that the rest. Brian's and maybe some Vaighn might come close. Tried True and had the same issues as you, nearly tried Bauer custom but went with a sweet deal on a warrior 6.1 pro and I can't imagine it being any better so I haven't looked back. I'm in a Bauer blocker though because they are the lightest with the most pop. I love the blocker but have definite concerns about build quality.

I think this kind of goes without saying on a forum but... that's just my 2 cents.

  3. I've always been a Av's fan, but not had much of a goalie since Roy to root for. Georgiev, I love em, but he's about as inconsistent as I am, and probably going to lose my Av's any chance at the cup this year. So in prior years I've bandwagoned with teams that I like their goalies, ie, Rangers. Beyond that I'm always pulling for Canadian teams. There's been so many close games I've appreciated watching. Great round 1.

To my Canadian friends who can't watch much, can you guys get ESPN+? It's a online streaming service for just $10 a month, like disney plus haha. You rarely get to watch a live game, but the replays are available as soon as the game is done. So I just stay off the internet and tune in about 3 hours after puck drop, pretend it's live and have a ball.

I've used  x2 pro+ and now x3pro+ pants, I find the thighs to be the beefiest and widest i've ever tried on. Way bulkier than my previous 1s pro or CCM axis. I had to change my pad strapping to fit the larger thighs.

I have the older swagger pants and I really have no complaints. They seem to present well and I've never been hurt. If anything I'm interested in a slightly smaller/more flexible pant but mine have been a workhorse for years now, probably a solid 6+ years of use and only now looking a little ragged.

Right now for pants probably the Vaughn SLR pants 3/4. These have quietly moved into the most used pant in the NHL. I think they present well from a straight on position while looking at a goalie in their stance or butterfly. Seem to have decent seal in 5 hole, in RVH leans, etc.

I coach a lot of kids. I might see 100 goalies in a year. The few times I seen Warrior pants used they present like an upside down triangle if you know what I mean. Very wide on the hips and they (visually) look to taper as they get closer to the pads. Again this my objective take on it. You may love them and how they look. But it seems like even the Warrior Pro guys like Smith and Gorsuch aren’t using them.

Good info. They do look great. I'm very curious about those purrty looking Brian's optik pants but doubt I'll ever be able to justify $500 for pants in this lifetime. Maybe I'll start a go fund me haha

I really want to like Warrior equipment and the G7 seems to be a big step in the right direction for me. There is some great innovations with the equipment and how it’s designed to stop more pucks. Then there are some things that just turn me off. For me personally it’s almost to customizable? Custom options are fantastic for custom, but on a stock set it might try to hard be everything for everyone. For me they should focus on making it their way, for better or worse like other companies do where its a motto of “this is our design take it or leave it.” Maybe add a second line that uses their best ideas but is closer to market trends and then a full on Pete Smith line where he can just run in whatever crazy idea he likes. I think Pete was doing better leg channels on the 6000’s 15 years ago which line up with todays market place.

A lot of steps in the right direction for Warrior, I hope they continue to push forward.

Last gripe, they need a full overhaul on their pants. Optics aren’t every thing but man, I find they don’t present well in terms of coverage, like the barrel cut pants do. They’re so hip dominated and chunky, looking like my old Koho 590 or Sherwood 9980 pants.

Some good points. I kinda like messing with all their options but at the same time a streamlined pad would be cool too.

Just curious, what pants do you like that present bigger?

  7. Maybe I did a better job applying it than I realize, but for what it's worth I've had no trouble with this stuff sticking over time even with very quick and imperfect 5 minute applications. Although I do use a hair dryer for heat to mold it on better, help it stick. I also have warrior pads with a velcro knee stack that I tuck the edges of the film into, then velcro over so that really helps anchor it. But I currently only have half of my knee plate covered in the film (to prevent over sliding) and even with that edge getting water underneath it each game, it has never come off. Works like a charm. Powerful yet controlled slides.

  8. Wow what a great post Thecarguy, thanks for sharing your struggle. As others have said, that does take kahones (although it's sad that it's more rare to be real with others). I'm sorry for what you're going through. There's so much good that has been said by others here already, I can hardly hope to add anything. But as a goalie who occasionally midnights as a mental health therapist I will add this much:

There really is a lot of truth to really knowing yourself, and knowing what YOU want, not what others want you to do. If you want to respect others' wishes somewhat while being true to yourself that's great, but if you're only doing something for others, it won't last and it won't be authentic or blessed by your true passion and commitment. I'd recommend setting aside a little time to really think this through. Spend a day or a weekend away from others and get to know yourself on a deeper level. See if you can even write out what's important to you, your values, your goals, your hopes, and even your limits (pretending you don't have any won't help, despite what Hollywood says). This could go either way. You may find yourself recommitting to hockey with a new vigour, doing it for your own reasons this time, or, you may find yourself letting go, and finding peace and hope in starting a new chapter in life. It's completely your choice. Make the choice that brings you life, hope, and peace. Good luck my friend, and thanks for all your posts on warrior gear that I'm always so interested in!

  9. Thanks fellas! I got a good deal on a pretty much new Bauer X5 pro so that's in the mail. A warrior 6.1 was my next choice, so if I end up not liking the x5 maybe I'll make a switch. I like the tighter fit and feel of the bauer blockers, but I am a little worried durability so we'll see.

I'll do a mini review on it soon. I also have a 6.1 pro glove I've been meaning to review. Love that thing.

Do you mean FTK? If you’re an 18.5 ATK a 32 or small/X small in Bauer is going to be way too small for you

brain fart, yes I meant FTK

  11. My pads might be much older G2's but I'd agree with your sizing as I'm about an inch below center with an 18.5 atk. At this point I'll be going with a 32" in Bauer for sure, and probably a 32 in Warrior as well unless we start seeing the g6/7s running big. Still leaning Bauer although the G7's do look great.

  12. Hmmmmm... I could believe that technically they're made to the same dimensions. But what about the change away from boot risers and different boot angles, doesn't that make the pad fit a little differently?

Also Coop, with 19.5, are you landing center on the knee stack in your Warrior 33"s? Technically the chart would have you in a 32" right?

MY best advice ordering 2 custom sets previously, follow the chart!!  Each time I did this warrior reps both agreed that the way I calculated was correct.  Remember as well, when you do this, if they don't fit Warrior will make you another set........anyways, track the FTK and line your knee where it needs to be.  For me, I am 21.5 FTK so that puts me in a 37+1.5 (stock thigh rise).  However, if you look at their chart, they also show you what the recommended overall pad size is based on height.  Since the 37+1.5 recommended body height is taller than I am, I went with the overall pad height recommendation for my height of 6' 1 1/2" which ends up as a 36+1.5 pad.  So simple math, keep the knee at 37 and drop the pad height by 1", puts me in a 37+0.5 pad.  Fits perfect.  Always feel free to reach out to warrior on IG or anywhere else to show them your stats and what pad height you want prior to ordering and see what they say.

So I must have freakishly short calves for my height. I have a 18.5 FTK which puts me at a 31" intermediate on the knee, but I'm 5'8 (8.5 technically). They recommend a 33+1.5 for 5'8 guys (which is what I currently play with, G2's 33" and it works, though I land about an inch low of center on the knee stack). So if I was to custom order g7's, I'd want a 31+3.5?? What is wrong with my proportions haha. Am I getting that right?

From my understanding, the reason warriors gloves are consistently good off the shelf is because the internal plastic/composite plates are actually laced in with the perimeter lacing making it near impossible for them to be assembled wrong. The center plastic piece that breaks free and ruins the breaks on a lot of gloves is sewn into the face of the glove rather than the sheet of foam behind it. According to Pete Smith, Warrior gloves and all of their equipment for that matter are purposely designed to be built easily and consistently overseas. Nothing overly complicated.

Just when I couldn't love warrior gloves any better. Also the bindingless perimeter prevents the perimeter lace wear issues.

  15. Hey all I'm looking for recommendations for the crazy lightest blocker out there. I'm looking at Bauer x5 pro or M5 blockers. The m5 clocks in a 880 grams, not sure on the x5 but it's newer and from the Hyperlight line so one might assume.

So I have a pretty bad right shoulder. Had surgery and all. I'm 33 and starting to think about how I play the game now may determine if I get to play for 10 more years or 30. All I care about (as for as gear for my right arm) is taking weight off. I do all the PT stuff in the gym but looking to lighten the cumulative load over the years. For sticks I have warrior v1 pros in intermediate size (they are stupid light, I love them).

Hey all, hopefully this isn't too redundant of a question. I did some searching and found the glove weight thread and that was helpful to get an idea but outdated.

Did you solve your problem? Not sure if you also tried doing the DIY Forsberg pads?

    Forsberg-pad

Yes I did. I have the G-form knee pad sleeves for under my warrior knee pads (which works great), so when I skate out I just slid one on over where I was getting friction from the skate cuff. Did 90 minute pick up with no issues.
