  1. I have the older swagger pants and I really have no complaints. They seem to present well and I've never been hurt. If anything I'm interested in a slightly smaller/more flexible pant but mine have been a workhorse for years now, probably a solid 6+ years of use and only now looking a little ragged.
  2. Good info. They do look great. I'm very curious about those purrty looking Brian's optik pants but doubt I'll ever be able to justify $500 for pants in this lifetime. Maybe I'll start a go fund me haha
  3. Some good points. I kinda like messing with all their options but at the same time a streamlined pad would be cool too. Just curious, what pants do you like that present bigger?
  4. Maybe I did a better job applying it than I realize, but for what it's worth I've had no trouble with this stuff sticking over time even with very quick and imperfect 5 minute applications. Although I do use a hair dryer for heat to mold it on better, help it stick. I also have warrior pads with a velcro knee stack that I tuck the edges of the film into, then velcro over so that really helps anchor it. But I currently only have half of my knee plate covered in the film (to prevent over sliding) and even with that edge getting water underneath it each game, it has never come off. Works like a charm. Powerful yet controlled slides.
  5. Wow what a great post Thecarguy, thanks for sharing your struggle. As others have said, that does take kahones (although it's sad that it's more rare to be real with others). I'm sorry for what you're going through. There's so much good that has been said by others here already, I can hardly hope to add anything. But as a goalie who occasionally midnights as a mental health therapist I will add this much: There really is a lot of truth to really knowing yourself, and knowing what YOU want, not what others want you to do. If you want to respect others' wishes somewhat while being true to yourself that's great, but if you're only doing something for others, it won't last and it won't be authentic or blessed by your true passion and commitment. I'd recommend setting aside a little time to really think this through. Spend a day or a weekend away from others and get to know yourself on a deeper level. See if you can even write out what's important to you, your values, your goals, your hopes, and even your limits (pretending you don't have any won't help, despite what Hollywood says). This could go either way. You may find yourself recommitting to hockey with a new vigour, doing it for your own reasons this time, or, you may find yourself letting go, and finding peace and hope in starting a new chapter in life. It's completely your choice. Make the choice that brings you life, hope, and peace. Good luck my friend, and thanks for all your posts on warrior gear that I'm always so interested in!
  6. https://fixmygear.com/products/braid-nylon-lace-and-needle This is what I used to do my perimeter lacing. The needle was very handy.
  7. Thanks fellas! I got a good deal on a pretty much new Bauer X5 pro so that's in the mail. A warrior 6.1 was my next choice, so if I end up not liking the x5 maybe I'll make a switch. I like the tighter fit and feel of the bauer blockers, but I am a little worried durability so we'll see. I'll do a mini review on it soon. I also have a 6.1 pro glove I've been meaning to review. Love that thing.
  8. It's a 1 in 100 chance of a BOGO!
  9. I'll probably just wait to try some on before I order my 29 +4.5's.
  10. brain fart, yes I meant FTK
  11. My pads might be much older G2's but I'd agree with your sizing as I'm about an inch below center with an 18.5 atk. At this point I'll be going with a 32" in Bauer for sure, and probably a 32 in Warrior as well unless we start seeing the g6/7s running big. Still leaning Bauer although the G7's do look great.
  12. Hmmmmm... I could believe that technically they're made to the same dimensions. But what about the change away from boot risers and different boot angles, doesn't that make the pad fit a little differently? Also Coop, with 19.5, are you landing center on the knee stack in your Warrior 33"s? Technically the chart would have you in a 32" right?
  13. So I must have freakishly short calves for my height. I have a 18.5 FTK which puts me at a 31" intermediate on the knee, but I'm 5'8 (8.5 technically). They recommend a 33+1.5 for 5'8 guys (which is what I currently play with, G2's 33" and it works, though I land about an inch low of center on the knee stack). So if I was to custom order g7's, I'd want a 31+3.5?? What is wrong with my proportions haha. Am I getting that right?
  14. The used ones on SLS look good to me but I can see something like that happening over time. I've only just had mine this season so we'll see.
  15. Thanks everyone!. Anybody have a weight on Warrior blockers?
  16. Just when I couldn't love warrior gloves any better. Also the bindingless perimeter prevents the perimeter lace wear issues.
  17. Hey all I'm looking for recommendations for the crazy lightest blocker out there. I'm looking at Bauer x5 pro or M5 blockers. The m5 clocks in a 880 grams, not sure on the x5 but it's newer and from the Hyperlight line so one might assume. So I have a pretty bad right shoulder. Had surgery and all. I'm 33 and starting to think about how I play the game now may determine if I get to play for 10 more years or 30. All I care about (as for as gear for my right arm) is taking weight off. I do all the PT stuff in the gym but looking to lighten the cumulative load over the years. For sticks I have warrior v1 pros in intermediate size (they are stupid light, I love them). Hey all, hopefully this isn't too redundant of a question. I did some searching and found the glove weight thread and that was helpful to get an idea but outdated.
  18. So sorry about your injury and experience. I hope you heal well. This is good to keep in mind as we age.
  19. Full nude. I grow out my body hair for extra padding. Easy, breezy, beautiful.
  20. Yes I did. I have the G-form knee pad sleeves for under my warrior knee pads (which works great), so when I skate out I just slid one on over where I was getting friction from the skate cuff. Did 90 minute pick up with no issues.
  21. I think the guy just needs to be heard out a bit. In this tight economy, it is crazy that we have to spend $600 plus just for a glove. For one single glove. And yes, most of them take quite a lot of work to break in. It would absolutely be better service if they came more broken-in. Fair enough. Also, this is why I'm a big fan of warrior gloves. I got the 6.1 pro and out of the box is was easily closable, and became nice quick snap-closure-broken-in after 1 game. They are still protective, they are just designed to have more of a foldable, almost hinge like quality to their closure and it's very nice for those wanting next to no break in, or who have small hands (I'm both). Also monster pocket and the most modular strapping out there. Warrior should be paying me haha
  22. Yeah another example, is it the gear, or in your head? The classic psychology answer would be... yes. It's probably a combination of both and unique to the individual and the gear. I think somebody else said something similar earlier but I wonder how much importance shooters place specifically on looking visually for gaps anymore? They already know where the gaps are, hell they numbered them. When I skate out and shoot five hole, it's not because I "saw a huge gap" that looks too good to pass up, instead it's me just testing how quick they go down. I don't expect to score the shot as much as I'm looking for a juicy rebound also. Similarly when I go top shelf, I know that's a good spot to test a goalie, I don't have to look around for that. I know snipers are still looking for any puck sized hole so maybe I'm wrong. Just musing.
  23. So you need a narrower skate at the top then sounds like. KONEKTS should be great for you. They're also on my shopping list for after I wear out my GSX's. For now, have you tried baking them again? And then the shrink wrap thing to make them fit tighter?
  24. Sorry to hear about your experience, pain from equipment is always no good. I have a very similar issue with my player skates so I look forward to seeing how your methods work as I still haven't found a fix for mine. I'm playing out tonight and I'm trying a foam pad sleeve on my low shin to see if that stops the top of the skate cuff from rubbing my shin raw. Funny enough though I have the same GSX goalie skates and love them. Maybe a bad fit or not your style?
