  1. Are you 100% stuck using spray cans? HVLP equipment really does not need to be high end for mask painting. Small compressor and a cheap 1mm touch up gun is totally adequate.

Obviously it can turn into a can of worms as far as buying supplies, but mask painting can be a PITA with the right equipment. Trying to be meticulous tests my patience every time, and there's no way I could ever handle trying to make something look good with a spray can.

  2. It it is possible to do a fade like that with powdercoat. I've never done it myself, just solid colors. Powdercoat probably wouldn't be quite as precise as far as color placement, it is not as easy to control as paint. It will definitely hold up better than paint, it isn't so much a matter of layering it on but the powder is baked to cure and it isn't quite as brittle a finish as paint. Look up Tim James on facebook (TWJ Powder Coating), I'm fairly certain he's done fades on many cages.

Edit: Forgot to mention, get your screws and cage clips powdercoated too. It's a minor detail but I feel it makes for a much cleaner look.

Also, small world, I remember you from your brief stint in Melville.

  3. The artwork looks awesome. What did you actually end up using for clear?

I've never really become proficient at spraying clear well all in one day, always end up with issues you've mentioned and wet sanding/buffing has not gone well for me either. One thing I've had good success with is doing a couple light coat and then 2 or 3 heavy coats. I try to avoid imperfections, but something always shows up. I'll let that sit for 4 or 5 days and then knock that clear down until it is smooth, starting with 320 grit on the bigger imperfections and working to 800 grit. Then I'll hit it with another round of clear, one light coat and a couple wet coats that are still on the light side. This usually works out pretty good with minimal imperfections, but worse case scenario there might just be a few small spots, which will make the cut and buff easier if you even want to bother. I usually just leave it at that point though. This is all using urethane clear. I have top coated the sanded down urethane with matte lacquer as well with good results.

  4. You shouldn't have any fitment issues as the tires are pretty close in size, and typically fitment issues would be caused by sizing up rather than down. The 195/60 are a slightly smaller diameter, so one thing to be aware of is your speedometer is going to be slightly inaccurate, when the car shows 100km/h I'd expect your GPS speed to be about 96 or 97km/h.

You should post a final pic of what you ended up with.  I would imagine the whole set up adds a bit of weight to the stick?

My gear is packed away in storage and could very well end up staying there until next winter. But the stick is exactly like it was in the photos, only now it has a wrap of tape over top so the added plastic piece so I'm not relying solely on the VHB tape to hold it on. As far as weight goes, that plastic piece weighs next to nothing.

While I'm not willing to cut a fiberglass paddle (yet), I have no issues cutting the shaft down a few inches (3-6") if necessary.

I've been a trigger grip user for years. A few years back I was looking for a solution that would work without having to cut a composite stick. This is the end result:

After going to VHB tape and taping over it, I've been very happy with the result. While the grip is a bit different than I'd been using, it is still comfortable and gives me the increased control I'm looking for.

  7. I enjoy the drama, but I totally saw them for what they are years ago. Something was off about them right from the get go as there were concerns posted about communication issues, delivery issues, non-delivery, etc. The complaints got worse over time, making it plainly obvious that they had serious issues on their end. Yet they kept trying to pump out the latest new invention that was going to revolutionize goaltending.

And in the end it was never their fault. The customer's expectations were too high. The customer is a moron. The customer doesn't know how to communicate. Lost during delivery. Their email isn't working properly. Their website didn't process the order properly. Supply chain issues. Their supplier screwed them bad. And then when it all really starts coming to a head, the news with their daughter comes out. Just another opportunity to hide from reality and face the facts.

I went to bungee toe ties 3 year ago. I was totally willing to spend the money to not have the hassle of making my own. But rather than deal with this dumpster fire of a company, I made my own anyway. Several sets in fact, to share with friends. And in the end it had nothing to do with them being smeared by anyone.....they did it to themselves by being an untrustworthy company. The evidence was everywhere, but there were still a lot of people buying the hype and believing monster when they downplayed their issues. Which brings me to......

Facebook. Their marketing on Facebook was the first thing that made me feel they were a hokey company. All sorts of endless hype. Constant monster bag licking on GGSU. They could have made a monster backpack with Maltese padding and people would have been happy to shell out $200 for it. Somebody would report issues in dealing with monster and in the end the monster brigade would be the ones crapping all over them. Funny to see the responses then versus now.

Half the day is almost over and no release?

They have a count down timer on instagram showing roughly 7.5 hours until release. I'm guessing 8pm eastern time?

    Sherwood BPM 150 stick

$270 stick for 50% off. Picked up one myself. Sadly PHL will only ship within Canada

Thanks for posting this. I nearly pulled the trigger on a Warrior at retail price last week. Glad I held off, getting a much better stick for essentially the same price. Hoping I can accomplish what I want with it. This will be my first composite, I've always used foam cores with a trigger grip/Lundqvist grip combo cut into it, but I've got an idea in mind to replicate that without cutting the stick.

  10. I adopted Iris in 2012 when she was 3 years old. Deaf, but super smart. Very strong, athletic and driven.

I finally adopted a friend for Iris earlier this month. Maxwell is just over 6 months old. Spent a fair amount of time with animal control and a couple rescue groups so he's a bit behind on training. Needs almost constant supervision inside. I think he's going to grow up to be a bit of a beefy doofus. His legs are super thick compared to Iris and he's putting on muscle fast. So far he's really mellow and calms down really quick for his age. Iris is more of the playful puppy between them.

  11. Maybe monster should find a silver lining in this......somebody else is providing the market with the toe tie product, weakened demand for their toe ties will free up some man power for them to work on everything else that they are behind on, which based on what I've read seems to be pretty much everything outside of internet publicity.

Oh I stumbled on a couple deals with varying results.

One being a Bauer 960 for $300. Issues were was too big (M/L) and he took the CSA stickers off the mask (not sure why he would do that since he played Junior A and it wasn't painted).

Another guy has a tonne of masks and gear for sale (think he has a connection to a hockey school). He also has a 960, but doesn't know the size. He also has an NME10 but he's been giving me the run around.

I thought about using the back plate off my Hackva and getting a Protechsport (considering Michel is 2 hrs away from me).

CSA is getting sneaky. Now 'certified' cages have their own CSA sticker or id plate on the cage itself.

What I'm really interested in knowing when I posted this was if the X8 and L1.9 were as good protection wise as the Hackva.

I'm leaning toward the X8 because it's made in NA.

    Cedric

Maybe I'm mistaken, but prior to the 960 xpm I thought all the 960 were one size, more of a small/medium and the 950 were more of a medium/large.

The X8 is a pretty good lid for the money. It's not as thick as a Hackva, but not many are.

  13. The link is dead so I can't offer an opinion on the model.

As for my personal experience with the brand, I've purchased 5 of them. Two used ricochet, a used razor, a used X8 and a new ricochet. The only purchase I regret was the new ricochet (it was the first one I bought), and that's only because it cost me as much as the other 4 did combined. All 4 used masks were in great shape. For whatever reason I see them listed for dirt cheap a lot, I think a lack of brand recognition is a huge part of that. It isn't Bauer, CCM or Vaughn so people think they are a lesser piece of equipment.

I kept the first ricochet, the razor and the x8 and rotate them. My buddy that is the other goalie on our team has the other two ricochet. All have treated us well.
