  1. Sold my G4's and got a new set.

P2 users here: Anyone have issues with the pad returning after rotation? Any time I put the knee strap behind the calf, the toe of the pad doesn't return back. I've tried 1/2" toe tie, 2" toe tie, with and without boot strap, tight, loose, and every strapping adjustment. It ONLY happens on my left leg. ONLY when the knee strap is at the calf. THe right leg is completely fine.

Also noticed that in the b-fly, the problematic left pad in question also gets pushed out more, like my knee almost lands more on the inside of the landing gear.

    Any thoughts?

PS: It's never happened when I was in Warriors or any other pad (Brian's, RBK 18K, Bauer RX's and Vaughn V4)

  2. The speedskin does work. What it actually excels at is maintaining the same level of sliding speed throughout the game, on rougher and softer ice. So far everyone I know with them has no complaints about durability.

Made in China also does not mean it's poorly put together. Blame that on the materials (or lack of) and assembly processes made by the parent company.

I've never had made in Canada gear however none of my offshore gear has ever pre-maturely broken down. I've had gear from Bauer, Brian's, RBK and warrior. They were all exceptional. If there was anything that broke too quickly, it would be attributed to either poor design/engineering and/or material used.

You know who made shitty gear? JRZ. Their lines of Bauer gear was garbage. ESPECIALLY the catch gloves and reactor 6000 series. BUT. After I looked at it further, a lot of the faults were due to poor design by Bauer.

But JRZ did make some really shitty gloves. It ruined the entire Reactor line of catch gloves for me.

    Hey,

I’m new to the site and new to goaltending so apologies if:

    a) this has already been covered

    b) this is too obvious and boring to even be covered

... BUT, this chin strap that runs along side the chin cup... I find it effing annoying, so in my 3 on-ice appearances, I’ve pushed it out of the way. Because I’m so new, I’m hesitant to just cut it, so figured I’d ask about it here. What do you do? Does anyone actually strap into it, and if so, is there a good reason for doing so (safety related I imagine, cus it sure ain’t for comfort or convenience!)

    Cheers,

    Mark

you can remove it - take off the buckle on the other side, you'll see a screw that you can undo.

With the "two piece" you can literally use any holder.  You can use a cowling or go the cowlingless route is really is the most universal.

I have yet to hear of any issues with the one piece.  I was talking to an ECHL equipment manager and he said a lot of guys are switching to them but he has the same fear if they damage the skate they have to replace the entire skate.
He hasn't seen any that have broke though.

I know a few that had the carbon delaminate right at the edge of the holder where the steel sits, multiple times, to both boots.

It's a sharp yet brittle edge where a lot of pressure and stress goes through.

  5. I've held one too. It's pretty damn light. They curled the edges of the paddle, in which I think it's for reinforcement against chipping, cracking etc. I'm interested to see how well it will adapt to impact.

    Haha, brilliant!

funny enough, the material also helps guard against chips on the chin from shots, and along the mask from general use.

Only thing is, that the sharper corners require a dab of super glue to make it stay. I would recommend the gel based superglues for the job.

@ruckus007 - thank you for elaborating and providing a clearer picture

I loved the arm slign feature as it felt like a great connection idea, but I did no impact testing

i think that's an unintended side affect of the sling. It keeps the arm connected and has it move out of place less, however, the front part of the arm no longer moves away from your arms, which means there's no "gap" between the floaters and your flesh.

Can you quantify this? How and why do you say that? Did you wear it on ice and take pucks?

I wore it off-ice, and perhaps the comment was a bit crass however I did take a lengthy look at the materials, fit and finish on the unit and noticed that the materials used is not that great for a pro unit. Not to knock CCM, however the Premier was a better built unit.

I do like the removable rib padding, and the way the unit fits and moves. It's just the protection that raises a huge flag.

I used to love RBK/CCM C/As for the arm protection but find their recent offerings to be so-so. Not horrible. But just....so-so. The PRemier arms were great when I first got it but deteriorated really quickly after about 6-7 months of use.

@ruckus007 - tried it with shots or tried it on?

what didn’t you like about the arms?

by comparison, what unit do you wear now?

i tried it on, and noticed that although the arms fit snug and comfortable, the elbow floaters sit right up against the forearm. I had a guy take a stick and gave it a small tap and it actually hurt quite a bit. I wear a Ritual GT now, and have had the Premier, P1, V3, G2 pro classic, Simmons 997 and P4 - none of them did this. I think it's mostly because of how close the padding is to the arm, because you have to wear it with the  slings and given that this unit's softer than previous ones, the transfer of impact force goes directly into the body.

I had it properly adjusted prior to testing. I couldn't even give the elbow floaters a quick jab without it hurting.

I do like the removable rib padding, and the way the unit fits and moves. It's just the protection that raises a huge flag.
