They're in HZRDUS pads. The tell is how the thigh thins out, the outer roll, and the profile of the pad. I do think it's interesting that there were a few guys that were 20.x guys that ended up in PX3 pads (main example I can point out is Varlamov, if you want others I can dig a bit). I do find it interesting that Dostal is still in his 20.2 sets and how Soderblom is in the SLR4 (after being in the 20.2 last year). At this point, the 12.2 and PX3 are essentially melded since anyone can order the PX3 with the "mid-thick" thigh, like how the HZRDUS can be ordered with the same option to make it more like the 20.2.
Obviously I can always be a little wrong, but True seems to be the least likely to totally care about skinning pads as something else just to do it. So much of the league is in the PX3 that if they were going to skin 'em as HZRDUS pads, I feel like they would have pushed that a bit harder.
I'm going to pop the catalogue back down here for ease of finding it for others.
That is basically what it is, like how the PX3 was the next step of the 12.2. I think their custom program is finally in a good place, only took a few revisions (which seems to be the cycle for every company, really). A lot of companies have dialed in their custom program in the last few years in ways that have come leaps-and-bounds from where it used to be.
Lukáš Dostál was allways in CCM Premier, looks like he continues to use what he is comfortable in, same specs again and again. Maybe it is somthing shared by Anaheim Ducks goalies ? Gibson is in same set for years (from his Vaughn - CCM/True transition), Hiller was using the same model for more than 10 years without change...

I replaced leather strap for elastic one (mady by myself ), but your solution looks better. I should try combination of both - strap cut to half and together with piece of bungee cord. But not with the velcro, just trough the front of the skate like oldschool strap. Thank you for idea!

The down ward spiral really hit me in mid 2023s, and got really worse when I went from shinny to an actual league where I got fixed up with a team that I had zero chemistry with, a lot of weird locker room drama, and no synergy on the ice. I had a test game with the group and honestly ignored my first impression and thought to not move forward, but really wanted to get things going again - big mistake! It pretty much made going out to any of these games dreadful and I started hating playing more and more. I attempted to counter act this by treating those games as practice but the negative social environment just made it more miserable, so I ended up quitting league play as of recent and just starting doing only shinny. On that note as time went on to the present my performance has gone wildly up and down to the point where I feel I have maybe 20% of my games where I'm actually on autopilot making saves and performing well not having to "think" as it would just all come naturally. Then I have 80% games where that subconscious part turns off either fully or at some point in the game, and I'm stuck trying to "react" to shots and playing extremely bad, even resetting to the basics just doesn't work anymore and trying to focus on one puck at a time. I actually found shinny a bit more hard due to the wild variance in skill and playing down just made it so much harder than up, but on that point playing too high without that autopilot kicking in means I'm trying to "react" to shots that happen so quick I end up being lit up like a Christmas tree.
Everyone of us have ups and downs in his game ( I got lit by 13! goals yesterday, but who cares today). Just my opinion, but I found this as the main problem. Do not quit now. Take some time off and when you are ready to return, play where you enjoy it and like it. BLG or pick-up, it doesn´t matter, if you like the play. But when you don´t, change the scenery and move away quickly from this kind of "teams".

For me, real "gear unicorns" were the custom pieces of equipment made for goalies born usualy in 80´ which had their sometimes oldschool preferences in terms of gear. Lundqvist - Bauer poster goalie, but specs of his gear.. Hiller with his pads, chest protector, knee guards and cowlings. Total custom equipment made ony for them.
I think that we will still see some great ideas of pro goalies which will sometimes made it to the custom options for pros/public. But not so many unorthodox gear pieces that were made just for one goalie and vanished with him from the show.

I've seen maybe one other goalie in my time spray their gear as they took it off. Now that makes two!
I used to do it at home, but now (1-2 months) tried it in locker room and looks like works better.

@mik if you want to give some historical reference reading with a touch of fiction involved, might I recommend SHIKE by Robert Shea. It's a 2 book series and is set in feudal Japan. A friend and i checked out some of the stories anecdotes and they matched very closely to the time period and records.
Worth reading, but hard to find, unless reprints have been released.
Thanks, I appreciate a good book recommendation. There are too many books and too little time to read them..

Books about history, especialy middle ages, are my favourite. I prefer literature of facts, but can read beletry if it is historically accurate.
Now I am reading A King´s Ransom from S.K. Penmann, it is the third part of series, about Richard the Lionhearted after his return from Holy Land and his captivity. Beletery, but realy good and long.
Another great book was God´s War. A New History of the Crusades form Christopher Teyrman, literature of facts, about 1000 pages .

Goodbye Hockey. ......... I am playing my final game on Friday, March 29.
For years my body has been complaining. This time I have listened.
It has been a grand run, 75-80 games per year with my 55+ team and more recently we've morphed into a 70+ squad.
Of course I'll miss it, over 65 years of being a goalie. But following hip, knee and shoulder surgeries the arthritis has won !@#$%^&*. So at age 74 I'm hanging them up. I won't be selling any gear as my Granddaughter is following the Family Curse and is now a 'tender.
It is my plan to drop in every once in a while on this site and take the temperature. But probably won't have much to offer, as if I ever have.
Cheers y'all

It inevitably happens to all of us....sooner or later, but 74/65 is unreal. Please keep contributing - it is allways pleasure to read your posts!

If you say unorthodox style, Dominik Hašek is the first name that comes to my mind. But I must admit that I remember goalies form 90´ to the future. Never saw guys like Mike Palmateer , just in some video highlights.
By todays standards I see a lot of now unorthodox saves (at NHL level, not in beer league) made by John Gibson .
I can´t say why, but I don´t see Jonathan Quick as unorthodox, even with all of his splits etc. He surely is by today standards, but maybe I´m used to see this type of saves from him.

I use a regular stick and I play C league over 40.
Bob has a crazy custom stick and he's one of the best goalies on the planet.
Conclusion? My stock sticks are holding me back.
I´m not completely sure. I´m using some pro return stuff and looks like it is not in equipment (Ondřej Pavelec disagrees ).

Alright now everyone's doing it. Since @coopaloop1234 still thought I was 13 until I posted action pictures a few months ago, I'll make this list from a 2000s kid's prospective. Keep in mind I actually follow hockey and its history so some of my answers will still be older goalies.
Ducks- Jonas Hiller (Gibson if you're a baby born after 2004) And yes really the Hiller/Quick playoff battles were great back in my day
I think it was more playoff battles against Red Wings/Sharks. If I remember correctly Hiller - Quick is only 2014 playoffs and that souhld be forgotten - starting John Gibson in game seven, pull him too late and let the Kings go all the way to the Cup ) .

Hasheck...please, entertain me.
Craig Anderson, very high merits indeed.
TT...certainly a stand out but is he the face for Boston in net?No, it was just a joke...as was his neverending equipment changes back in time .

Saw the surgeon yesterday. Consistent with his intergalatic ego, he's pleased with his work and my leg. SOB put me through it yesterday. Had me doing one legged skips in the hallway of his office. Not so great on the left leg. The loss of strength in the quad and glut is the big problem together with descent of stairs and swelling at the end of the work day. So added more exercises and a stretch to the ones I already do to free up the glut and iliotibial band at the hip and knee. Bottom line: for ordinary people, doing well and ahead of the curve. If you saw me on the street, you wouldnt know I had my quad reattached. For what we do, I am looking at the fall. I just dont have any spring yet in the leg.
I am trying hard.
Keep it up, you will make it !

My son is a D man. His freshman tryouts for varsity HS hockey he took a puck off his ear plate of his helmet. Split his ear still, had to get stitched up at 11 pm at local hospital. But he made the team. Worth it? Sure.
Congrats !
On the light side note - it looks he didn´t have Passmore blocker, otherwise every puck would boom to the corner!

Yeah, they've worked well for me for about 5 years now. Thinking of picking up a spare set for whenever they need replacing. Still going strong though.
And yeah, you definitely need an open knee cradle to make these things work. Well worth it in my opinion.
Exactly !
I had the same idea - so allready have spare ones. But still going with first ones, for more than 5 years like you. Some battle scars on the front plate, but still holds strong. This is great product! Just if I want to try another new pads, usualy must switch to smaller knee pads from Bauer, but then it is day and night for knees.
