  1. My Coveted has been an absolute tank. I'd email them to see if the A5 matches spec on their no-carbon pro masks, but I'm pretty sure it does. Mine is a no-carbon 3:13 and I've taken some absolute bombs without issue. Ron assured me that weight and protection level are similar between all levels. The carbon would add some stiffness, and the with-carbon masks have a longer warranty, but I don't know if that's worth the additional price.

If you go with Coveted, I'd recommend sticking to a certified grid cage. I've found the main eyebar in their Cateye cage to be prone to bending. Could also contact Marco Garon at Guardian Angel cages (Facebook). He makes after-market Cateyes with a reinforced centre bar and eyebar. I've used one for a year on my Coveted and I cannot praise it highly enough.

I'm going to be getting another mask in the near future (have some new paint I want to get done) and I'll definitely be going back to Coveted.

I think they supply the AHL too but I don't think anyone is in them (assuming that they can't wear it or would have to cover up if they went to the NHL). Maybe pants/chesty though?

They would have to cover up the badging with Padskin or something if they were called up to the NHL, yes.

Sizing should be close.   If you can get a deal, it's worth a try.  I really loved the way the G/T2's I had played.  Take a pass on the gloves.  While they're the best Warrior has ever done (IMHO) they won't feel anything like Vaughn gloves, especially the catch glove.

I mean, that's probably a good thing. Vaughn catchers kinda blow.

I went from a g3 to a 6.1.  It feels nothing like a g3.  The g6 feels closer to the g3.  The 6.1 feels similar to a 590 type closure. The one thing I really don’t like is your fingers slide as you close it. The g3 felt like it was fully apart of your hand.  The big plus though is the pocket. Way bigger than the g3. I end up making what feels like more glove saves after switching.

I've used a G3, G4, and a GT2. The removable liners in the G3/4 did always feel tighter around my fingers than my GT2 does, but after switching to my GT2 I realized how... sloppy, for lack of a better word, the liner system was. Like, my hand felt very locked in with the G3/4, but it didn't feel locked in to the glove.

I'd love to get my hands on some G6 gear, but I'm a little bit skint at the moment.

Can wheels be attached to a carry bag? This way, you can have the best of both worlds: a bag that can easily be carried on stairs, yet can also be rolled to save strain on one's back.

If it is possible, I would love to mod a carry bag to have wheels, and possibly even buy this bag.

The frame required to make the rollers usable adds so much weight to the bag, it makes them much much heavier. Which, incidentally, is why I use a carry bag now. Way lighter than my old roller bag.

Wow. Everytime I’ve got something from Canada the shipping has made up for the price difference. I’ve only ever ordered sticks though and a chest protector once

The more expensive the order, the more you save on the exchange rate, which means the shipping rate cuts less into those savings.

  7. No wrist strap is precisely the reason I like Warrior gloves. The strapping across the back of my hand is phenomenal, and I've got a very slim hand. I have yet to find a glove that gives me the same range of motion with my wrist, and also feels as locked in as a Warrior.

  8. Heads-up for anyone putting these on GTs or GT2s: the knee block is shorter, so you'll need to chop off roughly an inch in order to make them fit perfectly. Could be the same for G3s/4s, haven't checked.

You can put them on without any modification, but it will leave about a half-inch gap between the ice and your thigh boards.

In other news: holy shit these are amazing. I was sliding as well at the end of my skate as at the beginning. Didn't need to clear snow from my crease, was zipping from post to post off a gentle push. Definitely takes some adjusting, so you don't overslide, but I fucking love these things.

I've got a tournament in Vegas in just under three weeks I'd like to win. Skating out on a new team that should really challenge my abilities for the first time since I stopped playing House league, hopefully I make a good impression there. Looking at buying a home in December/January. Going back to school to get some copyediting credentials, hopefully break into that industry and earn enough freelance that I can make it a full-time thing; alternatively, being hired by a publishing house would be pretty cool.

Got another big thing on the go, but that's going to be slow-moving.

    Updates!

Won the Vegas tourney! We were short-benched from the hop (one guy got grounded by his wife, never even flew out. Probably caught doing something he shouldn't have), and two injuries had us playing with 8 and then 7 skaters in the semi and final games. Game 1 was a bit shaky, but I held the door closed after that and we went undefeated.

Snagged an early apple skating out with my new team. They've got me playing forward, definitely not where I'm most comfortable, but as long as I keep it simple (backcheck hard, clear the zone, get the puck deep) I know I can keep up. Haven't been on for a goal against; if "two-way shutdown forward" is my role, I'm happy with that.

Interest rates are creeping up, but the market should be taking a bit of a dip in the near future here. Some nice spots where I'm looking, hopefully they stay on the market long enough for me to snag.

Big Slow Moving Thing is seeing some movement.

Yeah. Life going pretty good right now.

Hey so I wear an Aegis, and it's quite comfy for me and I feel like it could work for you as well because you can take the 3DO foam out of the neck portion and cut it down to size a bit if you need less height for comfort.

    Have a read here

I also wear an Aegis; not the goalie version, but the player version. I don't care for the extra clavicle padding.

So as you move around, doesn't the belt push down the whole cup unit?

I haven't found that to be an issue. The inner belt sits across the very top of my hips, and I pull it (and the outer belt) tight enough that it doesn't shift around on me. I also wear a player cup underneath my goalie cup (I like the extra separation), which might do something to keep the goalie cup in place, but I don't think so because the player cup sits more underneath my groin than in front of it.

Gonna ask here since I asked in a specific thread and no one answered.

How do you fit the inner pant belt with a goalie cup? Doesn't the upper padding of the cup get in the way of tightening the belt?

Asking specifically about McKenney, or just generally?

I'll have to be more vocal in these pick ups. Looking back on this I should've just skated out of the net, went to the boards or other side which was empty and did some practice then went home. Being a bit more "reformed" I tend to remove myself from situations now a days when I'm heated up enough. I still remember my early inline days flipping people into the net when they would try to run me. 🤣 Few hacks here and there, now I'm more controlled.

On that note, I don't even know how people can react to those super close up cannon slap shots. My first reaction would be to get in front and center to the puck, and drop down while covering as much as possible by playing the percentages. Being shorter though I'm more prone to head shots like this and Ice Hockey pucks just hit different than inline!

Your first reaction is right. When someone is in close and winding up for a bomb, all you can do is gain depth and drop into a blocking butterfly.

    I'll fill in some details.

I graduated at the end of summer 2001 (I had to do a few classes post May 2001 graduation walk to get diploma).

My first job in September 2001 I was paid $45k. I had no idea if it was good or bad salary. I got an offer letter and asked my dad who was self employed if it was a good number. His response was - "it's more than I make". Started work on Monday, September 10th, 2001 at my first real job. I worked in NJ just outside NYC. Apartments were scarce and impossible if you didn't have money and paychecks to show landlords. I had neither. Long story short, I was able to get into place with my now wife through her dad for a few months until we got our own place in January 2002. Saved up all of 3 months pay to put down payment. Found a place that charged $1500 a month.

$45k is about $33k after taxes. Or about $2800 per month. My now wife was a student, so she wasn't working. Our rent was more than half my paycheck. You learn to budget and spend accordingly.

Remember, 401k and other programs are pre-tax. So your withdraw is taken then taxes are assessed on your reduced salary. Again, was poor in college, so nearly $3k a month felt rich! I didn't miss the 12% that was invested in my retirement then.

From there, the financial squeeze was on. So you either have to work more (ot) or look for ways to make more. I jumped jobs every 18 months for a few years until I was up making much more.

We bought a house in the fall of 2004. Wasn't in NJ near NYC as prices were off the wall. We bought a house near Philly. Was listed at $199k and I had to pay $205k to get it. Was the bubble then (similar to this past year). I used $10k that I could take out of my 401k without penalty for the down payment.

I had reasonable college loans that I paid off in 10 years. I bought a new 1995 Wrangler while in college with my pizza delivery job money. By the time I graduated, it was paid off. Jeep for a time was owned by Daimer (who owns MB). So technically I had a Mercedes.

It's possible to do it. Don't let time slip by. Your investments need time to grow.

I'm getting paid just over $40k before taxes, just under $30k after; roughly $2400 per month. Average rent in my city is $1500 right now, so about the same, but twenty years of inflation (~60% on the CPI since 2000) makes literally everything else more expensive. Utilities, phone and internet, groceries, gas and car insurance. The only reason I'm not in the red every month is because my brother and I are jointly paying a mortgage rather than rent.

You made a lot happen with very little, but people starting out now are facing steeper hurdles and worse starting conditions (I cannot even fathom the idea of being able to buy a new Wrangler just by delivering pizzas. Like, that's literally impossible these days). Same as you faced steeper hurdles and worse starting conditions than people in the early 80's did. It's not wallowing in self-pity to acknowledge that.
