Anybody here in Calgary?  Looking at taking a trip that way mid January 2022 on my vacation to go to a Flames game. Is there a train or bus that stops by YYC?

Want to go to Flames/Senators Jan 13th

Yes, it's the 'Victoria Park/Stampede" LRT station.

Used to be a pedestrian bridge that wound through the BMO Centre straight to the Saddledome, but that got demo'd in preparation for the new arena/event centre, and some other upgrades to the BMO/Stampede grounds. Now, there are two ground-level crossings: one at 14th Ave and one at 17th Ave.

It's a quick walk, but if the weather is shit (as it often is in January) you'll want a decent coat. Also, beer at the Saddledome ("dome foam") has a reputation for getting people fucked up; that's not been my experience, but lots of guys swear it's stronger than advertised. Happy Hour ($5 drinks and food) starts 1.5hrs before game time, and ends 30min before game time.

    5. Speaking of employees... IRS do anything good? For fuck's sake, where are the IRS when you need them? Raid these dirtballs now.

IRS is busy dunking on crypto-bros.

Ok following up on my own post.  Need alittle help.  So went back to my usual guy and the sharpening is now good.  The 24/28 profile still puts me on my heels Abit.  I find if puck is in corner and passed to the slot when I challenge out, my toe are kinda pointed outwards and I'm back on heels.  Yes certainly my footwork needs well......work but I think some forward pitch would help.

So would I need to go to a 20 or 15 in the front to get that forward pitch then?

On another note, we play the top team in the league tomorrow night and I don't know what to do.  I wanted to see a new guy about profiling but he isn't in till next week. Here are my options:

A: take skates to get profiled from guy who did it the first time and risk a botched sharpening like he did last time.

B: use them as they are and fight through the game tomorrow and wait for new guy to get back to work and change profile next week.

😄go back to old blades for tomorrow which had better forward pitch but are worn down.  Then get new blades redone next week.

Use whatever you're most comfortable with tomorrow night. Get your blades redone by someone you trust, even if that means waiting.

  4. I play best when I'm doing, not thinking. So I play songs in my head to keep me from thinking too much.

One shinny, I wasn't doing so well. Couldn't find a song that fit. About halfway through, the theme song from Mr Bean popped into my head (https://youtu.be/WmtIrkR6O7I); looped that motherfucker like there was no tomorrow. I was lights out for the rest of the ice time.

Makes it a little irritating if the score keeper insists on playing music during stoppages, but I'm pretty good at blocking that out when it happens.

Don't talk to myself or my posts, never have. Buncha weirdos. :P

Why the outrage? If it's basically the same game, then just buy last years version for $18 like I did and be on your merry way :) ...unless you enjoy living in constant outrage and anger in order to justify a victim-hood mentality that blames others for your own shortcomings and poor life choices ...in which case I say you should indeed go and pay $80 for NHL22 and then have a nice justified rage against the evil patriarchy ;)

That's some shoddy ass bait there, friendo. Better luck next time.

They're using frostbite for this iteration, so hopefully there are noticeable changes.

There might be, but then the iterative changes will begin again with NHL23 and the cycle of game developers selling sports games at full AAA price, despite putting in a comparatively paltry amount of effort compared to *actual* AAA games, will continue.

My kids have PS4 and have been playing NHL17 since we got the PS a few years ago. They aren't big gamers, just play occasionally when bored. I saw NHL20 on sale for $18 the other day and figured I'd pick it up. The kids put it in today, and said they don't see much difference. Can anyone here chime in? Every year the new ones (like NHL22) cost like $80 or smth. How can they justify the price if it's basically the same as the previous years games?

It's not about "justifying" the price. They're priced that way because EA knows that the general market doesn't care. A new AAA property like Resident Evil Village has a ton of new and novel work that goes into it. Even new COD games get new single-player campaigns, new models, textures, locations. There are writers and engineers actually creating new content for every COD game.

Sports video games being sold at a AAA price is one of the most outrageous abuses of the gaming market, and there's virtually no fuss put up about it because the primary market for sports games tend to be less aware of the broader video game market, so they don't know any better. Just look at the kinds of abuses EA's gotten away with in their FIFA games.

EA has been using the exact same Ignite engine for their NHL games since 2015, which means every single "new" game is basically just a matter of updating player stats, or doing a few model reskins for jerseys. UI tweaks here and there to make the game look different at a glance. The only notable mechanical change in the NHL games that I can think of, in recent years, is the "Be A Pro" mode.

I read an article earlier yesterday with a quote from either the current or former Montreal goalie coach(?) - can't find the article anymore and the dude's name escapes me right now

Said it has nothing to do with drugs or alcohol.  Getting to the Final last season and not winning took a toll on him

That, plus his injuries, seems to have taken a toll on his mental health. Glad he's taking some time to get help.

Long time lurker, first time poster. We had a photographer on one of my teams. He'd pull out the camera between shifts. If these pads look familiar it's because they were Chenner's. I have his old Kenesky chest protector as well.

I bought it on kijiji so I'm not sure what the buyer protection is there..  I mean in the end 200 for a profile 950 ain't bad.. I'll just keep it but I did contact him again and we're back and forth on it but he keeps insisting its a 960.. so I'm not sure if I should keep pushing the issue and ask for my money back because I do really like the helmet

$200 for a decent condition 950 is a good deal; not what you were told, but still a good deal.

Should leave a review on his profile, so other buyers know to be careful.

Congrats! I seem to find that at least to a point, the better the hockey is, the better I play. Things just happen the way they should, guys actually know where their shots are going to go and such.

The hockey I usually play is fast/skilled enough that I don't usually end up with that "unpredictable" hockey. Regular, mid-level Canadian rec, guys who played house league growing up but never went anywhere. I can keep a GAA of ~2.0 and a Sv% over .920 on my regular team without much trouble.

The Whalers were in the Open Division, so guys who played high-level junior/major junior and the like. Players that are skilled enough, and shoot hard enough, that sometimes... you just get beat. Even if you play out of your mind.

But for me, who only started playing net five-ish years ago, it's great to know that I can be a good - not necessarily fantastic - goalie against guys that have been playing that higher level hockey longer than I've even been goaltending.

  12. During the regular season I was the backup goalie for this team, and ended up starting all of the playoff games because the starter couldn't make any. A lot faster than I was used to, it took me a couple games to get acclimated. Such an amazing confidence boost though, knowing I can find success at higher levels.
