  1. Has anyone used the new optik x3's? throwing around the idea of trying them but don't know how stiff they are. I'm currently in Bauer M5's and like the stiffness. I was able to feel them quickly and couldn't tell if they were stiffer than vapors. i don't think they were as stiff as the m5's

Well, it's Brians, so you can get them to do whatever you want.

Though, they do typically put white thief eyes on their gear as a standard. Here's an image of a retail black Iconik with the eyes you're asking about.

That still shows up i was googling around and trying to find a black glove that shows the eyes. I was talking about using white thread on the whole expression but from that picture it looks like the black thread still shows through pretty well.

once again you pull through coop, now go get my pads on SL.

  3. Has anyone ever seen or had white embroidered thief eye on their catchers? Ive always liked and wanted the eyes on a catcher but I'm most likely going with an all black glove and have only seen black thread used for the eyes an fell like it wouldn't really show up on a black glove.

If it's the knee landing you're so focused on, you can't go wrong with either knee block option for bauer.

They're both such an improvement over the standard knee block, that I'm hesitant to change out of it. I'm a huge fan.

Guess not so much just the knee stack it was just one of the things I noticed from the supreme stack to the warriors stack. I could feel it compress and squish when dropping down. They also noticeably slid worse and seemed to get “stuck”.

  5. Y’all right locally and on the web it seems like most younger and older beer league guys are rocking HL/3x/x5 and don’t see Mach/m5 much.

anyone use both of them? Not to derail the thread but I’m tossing around the idea of getting some x5’s. I have G5’s as back ups and used them for a game and after using the Bauers I hate the way the warriors squish in the knee block and they don’t nearly as good as the Bauers. I know each line has their own knee stack but is the vapors more firm than warrior?

I’ll have to be the weirdo buying up all the discontinued supremes pads to have spares

Not from my experience with them. I found them soft, but definitely not as soft as slr3 pros.

You're high!! what have you been using for stiff pads 2x4's? lol to me they are the stiffest pad that I have used, but i get stiffness is relative to the user.

Not saying you're wrong and it sounds like you have some insight to gear but where did you hear there will no longer be a supreme senior line? feel like that would be a weird move since not everyone wants to drop 2K on shadow pads and some people dont like softer vapor x5's. Would just push people into other brands or buying older pads.

Not necessarily. They condensed the pads down to the x5 pro. There will be two gloves available at the middle price point. The x5 pro supreme and x5 pro vapor. Same graphic though.

so they will only offer the vapor pads and no more senior level stiff pads?

  8. with the M5 discounted and no senior line in the new Bauer release will Bauer push something out that's not their usual spring release?

  9. I just noticed that the thicker 550 looking cord that runs the length of the boot and the back of pad is cut in the boot area. I’m guessing my skate kept rubbing it and eventually cut through. Is there anyway to fix it or is it an issue? I’m guessing just tie it off so it can’t keep coming out.

Optik probably. Possibly also the eclipse, which I find better than the Optik personally.

Maybe I just didn’t give it a chance but when I tried the eclipse blocker it felt nose heavy and not balanced but all the reviews im seeing is everyone saying it’s balanced and light.

  11. I know I’ve seen this posted somewhere here before but I can’t find it. I’m a 17.75 ish ATK. On the Gnetik I was middle to top 1/3 of knee block on a 33, and on the Iconik I’m right at the top of the block. Using a 33+1.5. They eliminated the big boot bump on the Gnetik so the iconiks fit a bit smaller, but probably only about a 1/2 inch or so. 33 works good.

Brians thigh rise is really where they get you… my +1.5 is 9 inches above the top of the knee block, which is the same as my true +2 thigh. My slr4s are like 8.75 above the knee on a +2, and some v10s I used are like 8.5ish.

I want to make sure I’m understanding  correctly with your 17.75 ATK you are landing towards the top of the 33’s. So In Theory my 17.5 ATK would be pretty low in the 34 and 33 would be right about right for me? I kow there are factors that play into fitting.

So I’d say the stiff flex iconiks are actually still a bit more flexy than the stock flex SLR4. The thigh is pretty similar in both, but the Iconik has more flex at the knee bend, despite the knee break I added on the SLR4. I also ordered the soft boot on the SLR4 but the boot on the Iconik is still significantly softer and more flexible.

The iconiks are also a bit thinner and lighter.

What’s you ATK and size of your Brian’s? I have yet been able to try a set on but might pick up some optiks on SL. I’m currently in M Bauer M5 and hitting good on the stack maybe little high. I’ve read Brian’s run a little big so idk if a 34 will be too big. Their sizing chart puts me in a 33, I have 17.5 ATK maybe a hair over that.

I had no issues with getting ice seal. The glove also presents massively which is different from my other 580s  (have used True, eflex 5, vapor90, and Vaughn 70 degree) that tend to have more of that banana shape look.

It was also the most broken in glove out of the box I’ve ever used. Took basically zero work to get it nice and fappy.

Ya I noticed while trying it on they it was already pretty much broken in and could close pretty easily already. I want one bad

So after another use, the eclipse glove might be my new favorite glove. It closes a bit differently than a leferve 580, but it’s very comfortable and still similar enough to a 580 that it feels familiar. The single thin offset T helps create a massive pocket that catches everything. It’s a puck vacuum. I generally haven’t loved brians gloves but this thing is incredible. Also super lightweight.

The blocker is also very nice. It’s very light, comfortable, and well balanced on the hand. The only thing I don’t love is the index finger protection… the elastic connecting the finger guard seems like it’s a bit too long and doesn’t completely pull it sealed to the stick, so there’s a small gap that theoretically could see a puck hit and hit the index finger. Very small likelihood of that happening but it’s my one gripe.

Dang you’re making me want an eclipse glove more and more! I’m in a vapor 90 right now and love the glove closure BUT the only gripe I have is that the glove doesn’t seal the ice completely while covering and have had multiple times the puck coming out and one instance led to a goal. how is the eclipse on covering the puck?

  16. Last night I rotated back into my warrior G5's from my M5's and I hated the way the pads felt! They were soft, squishy, and slid like crap(too me). My question is for anyone who used warrior and Vapor series specifically X5 pads, did you get better rebounds/ sliding with the X5's vs the G#'s? I'm contemplating getting a set of x5's but if they feel like the warriors ill hate them.

I know supreme and vapor are different stiffness profile and i have felt hyperlites and know how squishy they are but are they stiff enough I wont get the warrior squishy feeling. it was mostly the sliding that I didn't like with the warriors. I slide awesome in my M5's and surprisingly get a better 5 hole closure than the softer warriors.

Still on the fence of getting a set of optik/x3, ive always wanted brian's or ordering custom colored x5's

I wish manufacturers would make pad graphics like this again.  Nice, simple, eye-catching.

Some of the shit they're putting out there these days is so convoluted, like a DaveArt mask

Cue optik3 graphics. I want a set so bad but the new optik graphics are so bad.

  18. So to my surprise my LHS had some eclipse in shop. The glove needed to be broken in but felt pretty close to the vapor in closure. The blocker was the first blocker I tried on that felt horrible  the nose felt heavy and just felt cumbersome. The optik blocker felt way better and closer to the Mach blocker. I’m still on the fence whether I should order a glove or not. It felt good but something was also just off, then again it wasn’t broken in but already able to close fully.

Is it usually the same wait time for a single glove. All I want is the thief eyes on the T….. idk why I’ve always really liked that and always wanted some Brian’s gear.

I got a chance to try on these gloves at my local hockey shop and I like the blocker, the glove is ok.... I prefer the iconik glove. The rvh glove down pass trap with the eclipse the pocket doesn't lay flat like Optik and iconik lines which is a problem. It presents well otherwise. Not on my list to buy tho. Probably going with iconik/Optik combo.

Is it just the break or the glove itself? have you ever tried on a Vapor90 and if so how does it compare? i keep talking myself in and out of ordering a glove. I'm currently using a vapor90 and love the closure and the feel and no one near me has the eclipse in store.
