Going down a waist size in pants only takes an inch from overall pant length

What part of the pad is getting caught? Guessing outer gusset but it's best to be specific

Could be how the pants are sitting around leg.  Are you wearing suspenders and how do you integrate your chest
    Are the pants new

Pictures of your issue would be the best bet
Need to see how the pants sit on your leg with your pads on and what part of the pad is getting caught

If your pants are super short they may get caught on the outer gusset (ie if Quick's pants below ended at the red line)

I'll try to get some pictures. The outer gusset does seem to be the part getting caught. I currently don't wear a set of suspenders as I wasn't sure that would make a huge difference, but I'd be interested in trying some. I believe my pants sit below the red line, they aren't very short.

A few years back I was ordering a set of Goal Pants from John Brown. I am 5'7", 165 lbs. John was reluctant to make them to my specs. I too wanted trimmer pants. His mantra was the bigger the better, affording more puck stopping area.

Being a class act, Mr. Brown did indeed deliver exactly what I wanted, even though it meant reconfiguring his patterns. I found them comfortable, much less bulky and lighter, of course.

Are you suggesting Brown custom pants then?

Are the rebounds off the M5 blocker pretty hot? torn between just getting a full M5 set or getting mach gloves and M5 pads.

The rebounds off the M5 blocker seem pretty hot to me.

Have you had any buyers remorse with going with m5 gloves and not Mach? Don’t know if it’s worth spending more money on higher quality gloves vs M5 gloves if you aren’t seeing high caliber shooters.

I meant to reply to this thread and then never got around to doing so. I apologize for the late response, I have not had any buyers remorse from going with the M5 gloves over the Mach. There is of course a difference in materials and everyone is subject to a random stinger every once and a while, but I haven't noticed any myself.

  5. Alright, so let me give you a little background here. I'm 5'10, 160lbs with a 32-33 size waist and I have noticed a certain level of restriction in my senior medium Bauer goalie pants used with my 34+1 Bauer M5Pros (I know it's not the pads because the thigh rise sits perfectly on my legs and my knees land directly on the knee block). To describe the restriction further I mean when I get up from the VH, RVH and sometimes even the butterfly where my pads get caught under the pant leg. It has certainly got better over time as I have gotten used to them but I'm beginning to wonder if I've developed some kind of tolerance for this or if its completely normal for this to happen.

Sorry if I'm a little long-winded here, this led me to the question, would I be able to wear a size small (meaning switching from a size medium to a size small) without sacrificing too much protection? If anyone could help me decide if this is a good idea, it would be greatly appreciated.

For you guys with the M5's how are they for durability and anyone have the matching gloves? might be pivoting from Brians to Bauer. I know the durability and craftsmanship wont be nearly the same but its hard to justify spending 2500+ on pads when i play mid to lower level beer league maybe 2 times a week. Trust me I want to spend that but the rational side of me is overtaking.

I've always been leery of Bauer since there has been some durability issues but that was some time ago. I've been reading some good reviews of the m5's and seeing that I'm looking or a stiffer pad they might be in my wheel house. I'm currently in warrior G5 pros and are softening up a little bit.

My main concerns are durability, can I get 2/3 years out of the pads with the same schedule of 1/2 games a week? I'm also worrying about the m5 glove protection. I've only used pro palm Simmons gloves and pro warrior gloves. I'm not facing super hard shots but a couple guys play down in our league and can shoot it. I've yet to have a stinger in my warrior but have not taken a hard shot into the palm always the pocket. I've thought about getting M5 blocker/pads and a Mach glove, but if the protection is ok on the M5 glove i can get both gloves for the price of just the Mach glove.

I've been using the M5's for a couple months now and the durability seems to be pretty good. The material on the face of the pad (I'm not exactly sure what it's called) appears slightly dented looking after taking shots from pucks but, no real damage is done to the pads and it appears a similar thing happens with the Machs. To give you an idea of my schedule, I play A level travel hockey and practice 2-3 times a week with an average of 1-2 games on weekends, and no significant damage has been done to the pads at all in the time I've used them. I have the matching glove (I have yet to have a stinger in the glove) and blocker as well and they seem to have the type of build quality you'd expect from a second price point Bauer pad. I have no idea if the set will hold up long term but, as of now I can't see any reason I would need to switch due to durability issues.

  7. I purchased these Eflex 3's off of SidelineSwap back in January. Since purchasing, I've decided to switch to Bauer. The pads still have a ton of life in them, as I only used them myself once. Size 34+1 Paid $567, Asking $320 plus shipping.

This is my first time listing something on the site, so let me know if I need to change anything @Chenner29 @SaveByRichter35

Ordered a custom 3x set today. Suited my style better, hope you find what your looking for OP!

Thank you, a pad suitable for your style of play is essential, so I completely understand.

This isn't an exact science at all, but in the InGoalMedia when they pushed the pads down, I did the same thing and felt it looked the same stiffness.

It's definitely very stiff, compared to what I had. I was worried it would take a big learning curve to use these, but after using them on ice I realized they fit my play style a lot better.

I'm not sure I quite understand the question. I felt it as in the puck hit it and it, save made.

In contrast, I lost a puck sitting on the glove because I wasn't sure where it landed (it was on top of the wrist, I thought it was inside. Pads are all black couldn't see)

The blocker I could feel the direction it was going. I had one (blocker.side faceoff shot) that I meant to deflect in the corner, but popped towards the net, and I felt it hit upper left, and knew to slide to the opposite side to cover.

No stingers or something that felt like it could hurt though (If stingers was the question)

Nope. Not anything I noticed at all. And I was.coming from Vaughn's with a buckle system where I rocked "tight low, loose high" for YEARS, before switching to all loose earlier this year.

I didn't play with the adjustment of it too much, but it looks really adjustable to prevent this.

Iirc, you can adjust the height a bit too. So I imagine you can prevent it.

Thank you for responding to each of my questions. Yes, I was referring to stingers with the blocker question.

I just did my first skate on these last night in a game. Keep in mind, I'm playing beer league 1-2x week, and had my last set of gear FOREVEr. I'm coming from Vaughn V5's that I've used for about 10(ish?) years. Blocker is a Brian's I've been using for around the same time, that I bought used. My glove was a warrior RG2 I got last year.

Didn't get a chance to break them in before game 1 of the new season, and got a shutout. #ItsThePads

    Pads:
I watched In goal Mag's review of the Mach's, and this pad appears identical to most of the things they pointed out. The CSS is there, but not labeled. The only difference is the calf slide plate doesn't have the 3 point's that the mach does, which HockeyReview's YT channel didn't like, so doesn't seem like a loss. I'm guessing the big changes are internal, and suspect the Pure Hockey employee who told me the difference is marketing holds a lot of weight. I think I read this has the older skin, but I see people complaining about the new skin, so doesn't seem like a loss.

I didn't go in to try and look at these side by side (Nearest store is an hour away), but it's (obviously) a great improvement from my old pads. Teammates made a comment how every shot off my pads sounded like a shotgun going off. Sliding was great, and we have bad ice.  I used to have to do more desperation dives, partly because of bad sliding, and partly because rebounds were dead, and stopped near the net. I found way more time to slide over, and didn't have to do a single one yesterday.

    Glove:
I also did a breakdown with the InGoalMag video for the Mach glove, and this was identical, from the outside to me.  Must be some internal changes? Who knows.

This is almost identical to my Warrior GT2 glove. Same break, same style. The pocket is deeper here, which is nice. I only had a few hours to try and break it in. I almost want to return it, but the mach set is all black, the Warrior is white, and it doesn't match! I'm vain, so i'll probably list the warrior on sideline swap, and keep this.

    Blocker:
This was in my bag, so I didn't get a chance to do a side watching the video review and looking at the blocker. I was using my old one for so long, and it was used, so anything current was going to be an improvement. No complaints.

If you have any specific questions, I can try to answer them, but my knowledge is pretty limited to what I got, and what I had.

Thank you for providing an update on the pads after using them in game. The only two questions I have are "does the pad feel ridiculously stiff?" and "can you feel shots through the blocker?" the second one is more specific to the blocker, so I understand if you can't answer it.

What’s the outer material on the face of the pad?  The usual Jenpro synthetic leather or Cortech?
The hockey shop description from their website leads me to believe it’s Cortech on the entire pad and not just knee landing and calf plate.  I would doubt Cortech would cover the face of the pad but I thought I’d ask.

    “External Material
C.O.R.Tech Plus skin returns better than ever in the M5Pro pads. The material, also known as Coefficient of Restitution, is designed to quickly return to its original shape right after deflecting the puck. This property is ideal for reacting on rebounds after the initial save. With C.O.R.Tech, the pads are able to give off a longer rebound. C.O.R.Tech also offers a much better sliding surface compared to classic Jenpro leather.”

I'm not quite sure, though PureGoalie also makes it seem as if the exterior area of the pad is C.O.R.TECH plus.

Hey OP - did you get a chance to try them at a store? If you haven't, the pad is super solid and so is glove and blocker. Glove seems to have foam inside for the palm (like last years model). Still going back and forth between this and the 3x set! Very impressed with the build quality of the mid level stuff now!

Does the pad seem ridiculously stiff in comparison to last years model?

The most logical approach would be to get M5 pads with Mach (or another customizable) gloves. This way you save money on the pads but get quality gloves.

    That's a great idea actually.

The pads look good, but until I can see actual performance demos, I'll have to wait on buying them.

I'm not sure if there will be any performance demos available for these pads because of how Bauer is handling there marketing. They seem to be putting the Mach pads front and center for all the demos, general information, and customization. Which makes sense because it is one of their new primary products but, sucks nonetheless.

It's game ready. It really sucks that pro palms are only available on either custom or pro stock/pro return gear.

It really does suck and from what I know, the M5 pros can't be customized.

I've asked about the trapper palm on PureGoalie, but I've not heard back yet.

Hopefully you hear back soon because I can't seem to find anything about the M5 trapper palm online.
