Seeking a recommendation from yins about Bauer goalie sticks.
Backstory: I've used wood/foam-core pretty much my whole life, save for one CCM Gatekeeper composite that broke after three skates. Oh, and one TotalOne I used in 2014. I actually liked the TotalOne, but found myself going right back to wood when the blade broke. I don't know if it's the illusion that they are more durable, or just personal preference. Anyways, the crux of my current issue is that almost all of my wood sticks get eaten alive by the ankle of the blade/bottom of the paddle. Doesn't take many skates for them to wear away on that area, and I'm kinda fed up with that (and the fiberglass splinters when I re-tape them).
Are the current generation of Bauer goalie sticks more durable than wood? I've heard tell that college teams force guys to use them so they have to buy significantly less sticks for the year. This, if true, is encouraging. I only have a few apprehensions, cost aside: one being that I use a custom stick, so the handle at the paddle is fairly unique in shape, and the curve is also a heel that has a slight mid/toe spot too. Two being paddle height, since every company has different heights. I don't even really know what mine is because I've used it for like three years. The only other thing that's keeping me away from composite is that I like the way wood deadens the puck, versus how it springs off of composite sticks. Also because I've used basically the same stick for three years and I'm afraid of change.
So my questions for you guys would be the pros and cons of experiences with Bauer composites, and a curve recommendation. I'm pretty anal with stick curves.

I don't think it's so much the difficulty or time or effort to do as to why they charge so much. I really think Vaughn tries to discourage people from getting custom graphics with these kinna prices.
I can understand a unique graphic like this having an upcharge, but for their own iceberg graphic, that's a bit strange.

My local shop said I can get the V8s in the iceberg graphic but it will cost between $400-500 extra just for the graphic...
Wesco Sports Center. Awesome dudes there.
It might be due to the pad being brand new? No other idea why they'd up charge like that. I even got custom specs on mine.

I'm picturing an Avalanche goalie with a Yeti head paint job, then the pads and gloves the legs and paws lol

Imagine what they could do with input from some graphic designers? Or just if someone wanted some weird color, like vantablack pads lol? I'm just worried DaveArt-itis will spread to the pads...or that custom printed pads will be so expensive that only the five richest kings of Europe will own them.
It would be cool if you could skin 2S as 1X, or vice versa though.

After wearing it in my game the other night, it's fine now. Straps just needed a little breaking in.
It took a period to get used to them on ice (my lesson was on synthetic), but once I dial these in a bit more and get better meshing knee guards, I think I found my love.

Here are my thoughts:
1. Move the knee lock down to the calf
2. Get rid of any knots in the toe ties
3. Move to Pro Laces and don't any knots at the bottom
4. Might be what it is. That's not way off. It might pop into place naturally the more you move in them
I'll give these a try!
I didn't realize knots in the elastic toe ties wasn't good. I usually have a fair amount of slack when I used laces. Yeah I think I need a few more skates in them. That's the only issue I've had. Thanks!
And thanks to @Mroy31 too!

Here's some pictures to make my crappy descriptions easier to understand.
This is pre-butterfly or pad on the ice. Sit nicely on my leg and square, no issues there.
When I drop my leg it also sits nicely on my leg. Good rotation. I tried at-the-knee for velcro this time.
And when I move my leg back up, like I would in recovery, it sits crooked on my knee and leg now until I brush it back with my blocker hand.

47 minutes ago, TheGoalNet said:@Moose75 this one sounds tricky, does it feel like your pants or knee pads are catching the larger knee blocks?
Nope! Pants are good. I've gotta say I love the extra room in the knee on the 1X pants.
46 minutes ago, Mroy31 said:How tight is your knee strap? Attached at calf or knee? I'm assuming the pads are rotated outwards when you stand back up, I had the opposite problem with my 1S for a bit and figured it was because I had the knee strap too tight going down to the calf. Loosened that a bit and got them more neutral. Maybe tightening yours would help?
I did calf, so it could have been too tight. That does sounds like it could be preventing re-rotation. I'll try it at the knee too to see if it's that strap. Otherwise it has to be the TuneFit thing.
Coming from wearing Vaughn/CCM [Reebok/Heaton] my whole career, these pads are like alien tech. I mean that in a good way.

Maybe loosen that strap just a bit?
What are you using for a boot strap and toe ties?
I have it on the edge of the calf wrap so it isn't on too tightly. Maybe I'm just positioning the TuneFit wrong? I've tried it on with knee guards and full gear, and without any gear on, and got the same result. That's why I'm thinking it could just need more breaking in.
No boot strap, elastic toe ties. I should mention my knee block does not have that 45 degree cut either.

Questions for anyone here with a 1X pad: why can't I get the pad to rotate back on my leg after I recover out of the butterfly?
I have to push the pad back in place or else it sits crooked on my leg. After running through a series of tests to see which strap is the cause, I've found it to be the Tune Fit strap. I'm using the large size, since medium felt way too tight for my liking, and they don't make xl. Will the elasticity of the strap loosen a bit with a few more wearings, or is this gonna be a pain in the butt problem?
Also; anyone here have the 1X knee guards? Do they work better in concert with 1x pads? Knee guards always cause me the most issues of any piece of gear.

How does that even happen.
Maybe they are actually made by a monster? Gotta be hard to do with big monster hands or like Creature From the Black Lagoon fin-hand-things.

I'm 50/50 on that. Did it really have a huge enough impact on the goal being scored to call it off? Naw
Was it technically goalie interference? Ya
Easiest way to solve this? Make the blue paint holy ground again.
Behold the heathen and the sodomite that shall trespass and desecrate that Holy Blue Paint, as they have before.

Come on. Don't tinfoil hat it up. The real problem is they left it up to individuals to make the judgement call at the rink and not being centralized in the war room. If it was the same department doing all the controversial interference calls things would at least be consistent.
I'm the Alex Jones of hockeyspiracies, haha! (slightly kidding)
The real truth to my statement is I'd almost rather it be a grand conspiracy. It's easier to digest compared to the ineptitude of some officials judgement calls.

"The only thing that is consistent with this call in the NHL... is the inconsistency with which it's called. Not sure which referees exactly reviewed these calls lately... but some nights I get the feeling they're salty former forwards who are taking his opportunity to right some of the wrongs in their pee-wee careers."
Or that politics in refereeing means guys won't face consequence for poor calls (Francois St. Laurent, Tim Peel, or that #19 ref that appears in almost every controversial goal call compilation). That or there's some Lenny Dykstra-esque stuff going on where refs or off-ice authorities have monetary stakes tied up in games, which I wouldn't doubt. Corruption is the only paranoid reason I can think of for these calls being so random (and oddly favoring certain teams whether it's coincidence or not).

Kinda funny coincidence since Hellebuyck reminds me of Luongo.
