Huge fan of the FLX Brian’s Optik gear. What are your thoughts on the Brian’s knee pads and the chest protector?  Those are items I would consider buying down the road.

I agree, the pads are great. The knee pads are good, I haven't had any issues with them. I wear them under my team socks. I tape over top the socks at the beginning and end of the knee pad to prevent it from slipping, and it works great.

I haven't used the chest protector yet, but just from playing around with it, it's noticeably more mobile than my CCM Premier Pro. Feels like a solid unit.

  3. Just got my Optik chest protector. Only special things about it other than the colours(Matte Black, Silver, Powder Blue) are suspender straps, and a Large body with Medium arms

After reading some people had concerns with the arms, I was worried. Trying it on, though, I was able to loosen them up to the point where it was easy enough to get on. A little break in time, and they should be good. I can't wait!

This is more than likely because the supreme boot is for a wider foot while the vapor line is for a narrower foot. This is just like normal player skates. I have the Supreme S190 which are only different materials but it fits around my foot well because I have wider feet.

It's strange, because I tried on the 1S and 2s in 8.5 EE, and both were too narrow. I tried the Vapor and it was wide enough. I was under the impression that Vapors fit a little more forgiving and larger than the Supreme? I have wide feet, and that's how it feels to me, anyway.

Ah thats interesting - I'd not seen that diagram of the cut of the skate before.

I hadn't considered the Vapor line really because I have wide feet - the Bauer measure machine has me at a nexus fit. But I had a similar experience when trying on the 1s in that it felt like the laces were carrying more of the load than in my Grafs.

I suggest trying them on. I was in The Hockey Shop in Surrey for a couple of hours, and tried on Bauer and CCM, so I was able to compare between all the lines.

How are you getting on with the switch to these?

I'm a long time G50 user (with vertex cowls) and have been thinking about picking up some 1s on sale, but haven't been fully convinced to pull the trigger yet - the ones i tried on felt like they had a ton of forward flex in the boot because the boot wasn't wrapped around my foot that much (although that could be just because they weren't baked!)

I haven't skated in them yet, so I can't give any feedback on them as far as transitioning.

Are you thinking about the Supreme 1S? Because I found it to be a totally different fit. The 1S didn't wrap around my foot like the Vapor 1X does, that's why I went with them. I could tell right away I would have had really bad lace bite if I went the Supreme route.

The Bauer website had this image, which really helps showing how different of a fit it will provide.

@IPv6Freely - I think they’re the best looking. Being obsessed with Roy and TBo as a kid might shape your opinion though ?. Lines are clean and the side angle where it transitions from the ear to the chin is beautiful.

I've always loved the look of the Protechsport masks. Every time I watched Mathieu Garon or Marc Denis, I wanted their masks so bad!

But I was too lazy to make a face mold, and ended up with a Sportmask T3 that I'm very happy with.

I'll agree with the InGoal article too, these things just look *big*. It must be the lack of outer roll presenting an single unbroken flat surface of the pad, but they just appear larger than other pads. Until you actually get them side by side for direct comparison, I don't think anyone would guess these are actually standard dimensions.

Sounds like an OPT1Kal illusion to me

I didn't consider the pattern/graphic of the stitching as 1 of the 4 new things.. But you're on the right track with STITCHING:)

Laceless face? Other than that, I can't see anything that stands out.

Edit* nvm, I just realized the G3 had a laceless face, too

@braedub90 - Looks fantastic on customizer, I´m sure this set will be even better in real photos. Just fantastic!

The customizer is great because it's unbelievable how many beautiful combos you can create. The hard part is choosing lol

  10. After being pressured by @SaveByRichter35, I guess I'll post my recent order at Players Bench, in Prince George, BC.

Colours: Silver is weave, powder blue is weave, middle dart is black weave, outer roll dashes (colour 5 on customizer) is black weave. The rest is matte black.

    optik_pad.thumb.png.76ef7ca1a768533c3a415dca13256ca7.png

    Pads:

    • 34+1" (Skate size = 8.5, 17.2 ATK, 10" thigh)
    • 84 degree toe taper
    • FLX core
    • soft boot
    • the rest is stock (smart strap, smart toe, smart boot strap)

    optik_blocker.thumb.png.3040c4ebf2e8256bb78cb8b12643099c.png

    Blocker

    • BOA strapping

    optik_catcher.thumb.png.25d4c2835c91ee6e89a555c2a1d0c074.png

    Catcher:

    • BOA strapping
    • Double T (requested no Thief eyes, just OPTIK logo)
    • Black skate lace pocket
    • game ready palm

Ordered the 84 degree boot, because I tried on GN3TIK's with the same boot, and loved the seal, without tripping me up. Left everything else stock, because it sounds like everything I want in a pad/glove set. Black primo on the inside sliding area and toe binding, as well.
