I saw the catalogue about a month ago I just don’t remember. I’ll check next time I’m at work.

Sadly don’t have that luxury anymore… but I’m using my degree now and I’m paid more than 1.50$ above minimum wage 😂.

Not gonna lie I don’t really mind about the specs for the line personnally, I doubt they would mess up what the Ultrasonic felt like on the ice. Getting a set mainly for the CORTECH plus upgrade and the full catchlite palm on the glove.

Not that I would likely use it, but does anyone think gsx gets at least a tech update this year? I bet the sock graphic stays but now we will have had a vapor and supreme update since it came out.

Catalog is leaking as we speak… If you stay konnected (see what I did here?) you will have all your answers 🔜

So nameing will be what GoalNet suggested. M5 Pro for secodn price point.

r/hockeyplayers - 2022 Bauer Supreme Mach and M5 Pro Skates

Note that in previous years, pro has been used in player skates and sticks, goal stick was to only extent.

2020 and 2021 line up was (for goalie performance products)

    Named product

    3s/3x

    GSX

The GSX will stay for 3 seasons, so a change to X (like s21 player low-end products) in 2023 with the vapor refresh.

I love how they used the icon on those skates though, and notice the yellow stripe on the M5 pro skate matches the stripe on the goal pad, nice coherent design is one of Bauer’s strengths!

  4. What is funny to me is that CCM stopped making custom gear for non pros in Québec mainly because of cost, but also ridiculous lead times after the Reebok Revoke model, the larceny (next year) was the first offshore only pro model for ccm.

True fell into the same trap ccm escaped from a decade ago. It’s hard to keep customers when you can’t deliver fast enough, 8-10 weeks feels crazy long already.

You just proved my point... you've seen posts... which only happen when something didn't go as expected. Might you have any idea how many sets were sold worldwide and what the defect rate is? Or are you just clicking? Clearly rhetorical.

As a junior engineer, let me explain the product design phase : you continually improve, it’s as simple as that.  I spoke with a lot of people at Bauer over the years and here is generally what they thought of the 1s; It was not perfect, but they stuck to this design philosophy because they believed they had something great, that their gear was finally different from the other brands. We are 5 years after the Od1n launch, and all the other brands are trying to compete with Bauer’s innovation.

Seems like it worked in the end.

And, we are not forcing you ( @GoalieNut) to like it, we are just saying durability isn’t an issue anymore (we are now on their 3rd generation of the CORTECH, which improved durability each gen).

Say what you will about the graphics, breaks design, performance etc... I never liked the poor quality with this gear starting with the 1S (OD1N).  As a goalie and a consumer I simply will not buy gear that falls apart like this and it is shocking that the goalie community in general bought in to this product.

From personal experience, I had more skate cuts and quality problemes with ccm gear (eflex 2 and 3)  vs my 2s pro, 2x pro and UltraSonics.

No skate cuts with 3 sets in 4 years, brand new eflex 2 got a cut on the first ice time back in 2015!

The core holds up much better compared to ccm too. To each his own though!

Simply adding the option for an additional +1 would only result in 5 new molds for the adult line.

Sadly molds are really (REALLY) expensive and they would need more than 1 of each size, they already have a boot break variant.

They have more than 1 production line too so it would add a shortage element to the skin inventory (i.e. longer lead times for a +2 set etc) if they switch the matrix on a weekly basis.

Having more production lines would need to have more surface at the factory, which cost more money + more machines etc.

Solving this would cost a lot more money than the custom sets it would bring in unfortunately.

Floating a couple thoughts out there on this skate

    1. Baseless speculation here, but assuming the liner is thermo-moldable.  How much are those machines gonna cost retailers, who's gonna buy them, and will retailers be happy about having another "Bauer gadget" taking up floor space (if they bought the foot scanner)
    2. Branching off idea 1, for those asking about BoA...probably not necessary.  If the liner is thermo-moldable, I'd assume the upside is you get a super precise fit off the liner, and the existing strapping is just to lock your heel and arch in place.  Those wearing custom Trues know what I'm talking about, they are so tight to your foot you almost don't need laces
    3. Cutting half sizes out is good for retailers!
    4. How often are early adopters gonna get those sideways looks, "Great, we got the tendy with fkin rental skates"
    5. Are these going to run alongside the Supreme line revamp every two years while the Pro/Elite/Etc skate updates go with the Vapor?

    1. Any reason to think a standard skate oven wouldn't work for a thermo formable liner?

    2. Bauer does not have Supreme or Vapor anymore for goalie skates. Supreme may still be available, but moving forward the plan is Pro - Elite - GSX.

Standard skate oven should work, the reason it works right now is because Curv composite is a thermoformable material.

  9. 8 minutes ago, TheGoalNet said:

Was hoping for that too. Too my knowledge, it didnt make it. It will get here eventually though. Issue stems from a capacity issue with the customized machinery to make OD1N pads.

    To further add to @TheGoalNet
The process to build their pads is really different from other brands.

The skin is thermoformed (pulled against a pad core shaped matrix), this means every size has it’s "mold".

Introducing a thigh rise option would make it a nightmare at the production level.

Ugh, that large middle section needs to be split into top, bottom and the lines and it would open up the graphic so much more

I agree, but most of the companies that offer 10-12 color zones on the face end up making the same graphic for most people, typically 3-4 "bloc zones". Even with those options, I'd probably end up with a similar design.

This graphic is the most detailed they have made available as stock since their digital print era started. May not have 25 color zones but the graphic is clean and effective. Plus, that zone 2 has really nice details. I went with white there because the small details will be silver and will match my mask a bit better. Plus, leg channel color and you could have a separate order for a vapor glove/blocker with the UltraSonic graphic package, which was impossible last year. Old times could even go with leather straps 😂

I have nothing unfortunately beyond that. No longer work in retail so no inside scoops :(

You'll find out soon enough, the knee is the most exciting part of the release. This alone is making me order a set whenever pre-orders are up.

But it's weight would be almost negligible, why not add it?

Aesthetics are a huge part of gear. Of course function is #1, but lets be real, how gear looks is a close second. Leaving off an ounce of glue and having the glove look like it's made in Billy Joe's shed doesn't make any sense to me.

It would never hold as long as you keep the gear; when you flex your pads, every layer compresses or expands depending on it's position relative to the flexion axis. In simpler words, every layer, skin and core foams, move parallel to each other ever so slightly. In the long run, glue would just stop sticking layers together and would be there for absolutely nothing, making it's weight useless.

Also, the foams would need to be "glueproof" so they don't absorb it and prevent it from actually working.

However, aesthetics are an important part of gear

A couple of 607304014_flat800x800075f_u3.jpg.a53fce5d2baa98bed3b5427bca781ab2.jpg's of glue couldn't offer that much extra weight.

Adding that glue isn't a necessity if it's for cosmetic purposes. Therefore, it's weight would be unecessary.
