It bothered me a lot at first but it's beginning to grow on me. Still looks no where near as good as a Pros-choice helmet

Isn't Vaughn still #1 when it comes to C/A and Pants usage in the NHL? At least they're still carving out a section on the pro side since their Velocity line has practically disappeared from the show.
I think they're #1 for pants but the ccm pro spec is very dominant for chests

Dudo has Wedgewood's HL2 set so I guess that means he'll stay a True guy this season as media day showed

I mourn the loss of the days when we had more variety in the gear (manufacturers) that was worn. Now it’s mostly True and Bauer, and a little bit of Vaughn and CCM. Brian’s is barely hanging on.
At least on the NHL side it's split between guys who use what they're familiar with (True) and guys willing to try innovative new products (Bauer)

Rebounds skyrocketing off Bauer pads break up plays. For me, it's the biggest benefit of new tech on gear and I have yet to see anyone close to Bauer.
That's the main reason I went back to HL2 pads and Mach blocker over my G6 stuff

That's because you're an old head now.
CCM/True/Lefevre pads have always seemed half decent, but they don't offer anything unique enough to sway my interest.
Leg pads are always something I've found to be easy enough to transition to between brands. They all work. Where my own decision comes down to is the glove offerings and the Lefevre offering has just never been right. Probably the only design I truly don't like, both blocker and catcher.
CCM is trying, I'll give them that, though they still haven't hit that stride yet.
If I get an XF set I'll let you know how it goes. I caught better with a borrowed axis 2 591 than the 590 I had for awhile and I definitely caught better with it than this hyperlite 2 glove. Still no where close to warrior.

With that said, True is not really being first to market with any gear innovation either... but Px was one of the most surprising sets of pads that I have tried. It doesn't have the tech of some of the other gear, but there's also almost nothing to complain about.
I've only heard good things about Catalyst PX3 but I'm still hesitant mainly because of the pricing. With the exception of an EF5 set I've been in Warrior and Bauer for pretty much as long as I've played. It's also just plain hard to pull together the funds for a True set vs CCM, Bauer, or Warrior.
Though if I make a NAHL team next year then I'll have plenty of extra funds to throw at a set.

I have the GFL Pro and love how it looks. This thing looks like a Pro knock-off. The back plate is ugly, the cage attachment points look cheap, and the shell itself doesn't seem right.
Ever since CCM and Lefevre parted ways, the CCM stuff has just missed the mark in my opinion.
IIRC Lefevre owns the rights to that shell shape. CCM had to make a new one that was unique from their previous designs. CCM may have missed the mark since Lefevre left but they're certainly getting closer with each try. Lefevre on the other hand is simply stationary. Zero innovation and very minimal changes (sorry True fans a thin composite thigh rise isn't something new to the industry).
Huge props to CCM for going out of their way to innovate and try and push other brands to do so as well. As TGN has said before the glove is the only piece of equipment remaining that hasn't had a complete design overhaul

Any particular reason you went for the Mach tune fit + and the stabilslide in the HL2's? I quite like the Mach strapping I currently have, though it seems most people are using the stock HL2 strapping.
Mach tune fit feels more similar to true and ccm in my opinion. I went for stabilislide simply because I'm used to it though I'll probably go for stabiliflex on my next set along with several other changes. I'll keep the ultrasonic stiff thigh rise though
-
Doubt it'll fit me but I'd be very curious to try one. Chin shape looks like it could be annoying
-
I actually ordered HL2 pads with medium (ultrasonic) stiffness and am quite fond of them. They provide the little bit extra mobility I needed when doing crease movements. I had stock machs with a stiff boot break before these and as great as those were the sliding is better on HL2 and they play better despite being nearly identical specs. I got the stabilislide knee block and Mach tune fit both of which have been as expected. I do have an absurdly wide butterfly which helps tons with Mach and ultrasonic stiff pads.
Though if you're used to 3x mobility, I would go for at least semi soft if not soft for the thigh rise.

Has anyone happened to see any mckenney gear in the AHL? I remembered today they got the licensing for it but I don't think anyone actually wore the gear.

Interesting that there's a pic of Alex Lyon with the logo showing. Do they not have to pay the fees for something like that?
I wonder if they're mostly using off the shelf neck guards?
Pretty sure all the vaughns in use are at least custom colored if not custom reinforced versions of the velocity pro carbon neck guard

Rittich with another crisp ccm set that will stay free of puck marks no matter how many games he plays

Dude used to wear Warrior G5 gear. Can't say I'm surprised he's trying the Warrior catcher again after some time in Lefevre gear.
Pretty sure he's also been buried in the ECHL where wearing warrior is perfectly acceptable. Scrolling through pictures he's tried every Lefevre break settling on 590 and now testing a Warrior glove again. As you said, not surprised

The Kova neckguard is the best unit I've ever used. I have two of them, both custom (for size, I wanted a taller neck and smaller clavicle piece), they're very comfortable and absolute tanks.
Completely agree. There's a little bit of a break in period but once you're past that it's completely worth it

Lol! It’s just the old man in me thinking “fuck, it’s past 9:00 pm?!?!”
It’s all really amazing for you, dude; thrilled for ya! I think I read somewhere else that it’s going well for you, yeah?
Yup! Loving it here and getting a ton of playing time. Our team is very young for J20 but from the looks of it we will still be very competitive and hopefully out up some good numbers this year. Also finally starting to put on some weight which is unusual for an American in Europe but I'll take it.

Ok, so not a pronounced difference to the naked eye, but enough for you to notice.
BTW - what time is it over there…? Shouldn’t you be getting some shut-eye? It’s like 6:40 pm where I am, and I think I’m about to fall asleep in my supper! LOL!It may or may not be past midnight. We have late practices and games usually so my sleep schedule has adjusted as such. I'm usually up playing games or talking with friends back home until roughly 1am if not later

What is the advantage of nylon over skate lace in the pocket?
I prefer the visibility into the pocket nylon offers over skate laces

What do you mean by the “thick shin” option? Having trouble picturing how this would help with the coverage.
For context, I’ve ordered pads exactly once, and didn’t go off script for anything… lol!
Stolen from @erik19 who got the thick shin option vs standard shin thickness
