Just noticed that Brian's has changed Boa to UTURN system. Does anyone have any info about this change and differences between these two systems?

Making a guess but might be a licensing issue. I believe BOA is a trademark of whoever created it. I know DC snowboard boots were some of the first to use the BOA system. Maybe they tweaked it slightly or just ripped it off and called it something else. This is just a guess

So I heard that there was a deal on the table by his hometown Devils. Would you not want to play with Hischier/Hughes/Mercer? Makes little sense to me.

maybe he is playing the odds since the BJ have made the playoffs consecutively more recently than the devils...

  3. Not going to lie tried on a Vaughn and the mobility was awesome and almost swayed me in picking one up but like mentioned by Coop they are WAY overpriced for the level of protection they offer. I would suggest looking at a smaller company that will make just as good if not better gear for a lower price point. I picked up a Passau and it was cheaper than any off the shelf "pro" gear and is a tank.

As for masks There are other companies that offer arguably more protective masks for the same price if not cheaper. OTNY makes good masks, I have one of their higher end masks and have taken some good shots off the head and only heard a cracks but no ringing or headaches. I think my OTNY was around $730 with upgraded foams and PC cage.

Looking at the article seems like they are primarily using off the shelf masks which are going to cost more and offer less protection than smaller manufacturers. Hell you can get a full custom mask for cheaper than the $999 price tag.

If I recall correctly, Tacks and 2X should be closer in fit to each other. 2S and FT2 are the narrower, lower volume fits.

This changes with 3S - the fit is supposed to be more generous than 2X - but I have had some contradictory feedback from some customers.

FT2s are newer than the AS1 Tacks, but they haven't been moved to clearance yet, as far as I know. Some retailers (Monkey and Pure, maybe others) are doing 25% off clearance items right now, which would include the AS1 Tacks. But one potential issue is that the AS1 has the older Attack holder and not the newer XSG holder, so you may be limited on future steel options.

Both CCM skates should be covered under CCM's 90 day guarantee, so you would be able to bake/sharpen/play in them and return them for a full refund if you don't like them.

I wouldn't write True off so quickly. The stock offering looks to be a really solid skate. I believe True is doing a 30 day guarantee on their stock skates, similar terms to CCM. Confirm with your local store.

    Thanks for the feedback!

I have smaller/ narrower feet so the FT2s might fit me better. Guess I need to go try some skates on and see what ones fit the best. I wrote True off mainly because reading about them falling part of people fairly quickly and also I don't like the way TRUE is handling custom orders for us common folk, but that is a personal reason and a different subject.

  5. Hey guys,

My current skates CCM U+ Pros are starting to show their age and the upper ankle area is getting soft and the tendon protector is starting to separate at the top of the boot. I have had these skates for roughly 10/12 years and are pretty much the one skate I have ever used. Since its that time of the year and sales are going on I am looking to pick up a pair of last seasons series skates. I have liked my CCMs and CCM actually did me a solid with skate replacement so I am leaning towards sticking with CCM and picking up some FT2s.

I have also started to look into Bauer but haven't had the chance to try them on at my LHS. The 2X/2S are in the same price range as the FT2s and seem to be in the same release cycle as the CCMs. I looked quickly into True but after reading reviews and issues with them I'm going to not go that route.

I know skates fit and preference is mostly personal but are there any other models/brands that I should look into? I mainly want to go with higher tier skates due to the more rigid boot and longevity. I'm guessing that skate technology has come a long way in ten years so there might be a lot of changes I need to get use to.

    Thanks

    Mike

  6. Is the draw to True/Lefevre just the name and how long they have been around? Its probably just me but I don't see why so many people are drawn to these pads when you can get other companies with the same tech and not be told to bend over and take it while they hold your money.

Can you take a pic with them covering your knees on floor?  I've always been curious how the curious as to the coverage of these.

I have a pair and have been using them for 8+ years and are still going strong minus the elastic wearing out. They are really low profile and offer good protection. They cover the same if not more than off the shelf guards. I know sara offers more choices now when it comes to inserts and gels

After 3 cages in under a year, and now this, I am done with otny. The only way I wear one of their masks again is if they replace this one for free. No mask should ever do this.

What model of OTNY did you go with? I just got my CC and the jury is still out on how I like it. Took one glancing shot off the dome and got some ringing but didn’t feel the actual did or any ouch moments.

He is SUUUper polite and curtious and professional. Kept using the pronoun "vous" when addressing me in texts, which is the french equivalent of "sir". You have to be patient as he is swamped. My whole project, once I sent in my deposit, to him showing me the template, to my sending in the mask for the job...maybe 4-6 weeks tops? My mask is already on its way home, arrived in Ottawa for sorting today. Should be in my hands in a day or two.

Ya he has been really polite to me and he already told me he is swamped because of the holidays. I sent him a deposit to make up my template and just waiting to see it before sending my mask since it’s my only reliable one and I’m trying to shorten to time it’s with him.

All the wraps I have seen look awesome

For the first time in ever, other than using decals and such, I got my mask redone with a full wrap by JF Aumais wrapping out of Quebec province.

It's an ode to a man I met and had the pleasure to work with who helped me get into goalie coaching, Richard Sevigny.

I plan to install a white cage on it to help blend with its pure simple beauty.

My gift to me for this season (even if we're not playing 😁)

How was your experience with JF? I’m starting the process of getting my masked wrapped by him. Seem overall everyone is happy with the outcome n

double slant the shoulders if too large or add a small knob 1" above the paddle on the smaller end stick.

Never thought about shaving the paddle down, wouldn’t that leave composite fibers exposed and weaken the integrity of the paddle?

Comparing my 26 warrior to a 26 ccm it’s no wonder you like the 25.5 ccm. They’re about .5” different!

I picked up a 26 CCM for funzies and just felt weird being tall but the 25 CCM I use to use kept my blocker lower than I wanted.

Does anyone know where I can find a brand new all black pair in fit 1 or 2? looking for pretty much any of HPG 12, 13 or 14.

I've been using CCM Premier (in a Medium right now) for years and never had issues, until this year when my pants ripped on both sides after 5 months of use.

Check out the goalie crease. They had some pro returns a little while ago and might have some left overs.

I saw those before but I couldn’t tell if they had internal skate pockets or were just a giant bag.
