Just purchased these off of SidelineSwap

I will be purchasing some 2S Pro pads to match since I outgrew the G5 set. I had a growth spurt out of no where and the 33s just didn’t cut it anymore. My G5 set is for sale on SidelineSwap if anyone’s interested. They’ve only seen 3 months of use. The glove is a G5 pro and the blocker and pads are Sr+.

Damn that's an expensive growth spurt! you didn't have them that long, what is making you go with bauer vs another warrior set? just curious

Do you mean ‘blade matching’ right? Probably good to ask them to check just in case. I’m sure even Step blades could be slightly different from factory.

If you’re happy with the relatively flat stock “profile” then yeah just hollow after they’re matched I would think...

Thank you, I just want to be sure my LHS doesn’t mess them up, I do not have full confidence in some of the guys who do the sharpening.

Interesting. I've used Tydan's DLC and Bauer's LS5G w/ Carbon coating and never had an issue with sharpening. Then again... maybe my mom was right... maybe i am special.

I haven’t sharpened mine yet so I’ll see if I have similar experience or not. I think if the shop knows what it’s doing you should be gtg.

did you have your carbon blades cross ground the first time? I’ve read mixed things saying if you have higher quality steel you don’t need to get it done since the main purpose of it is to ensure the profile is even on both blades and tor ale off any imperfections.

  4. hey guys,

just got some new step runners and need to get them sharpened. I have read mixed things as far as whether or not I need to get cross grinding done on them for the first sharpening or just get my usual hollow? They are blacksteel if that adds anything.

as far as I Understand cross grinding just is for prepping  the runners for the first sharpen by removing any imperfections and making sure the profile is what you want. However, I thought the whole big deal about step is the quality of the steel so I’m guessing they are pretty spot on as far as profile and just need to be sharpened.

Pure pure gold, pics do no justice it looks unreal. They have antique gold as well but went with these and glad I did. The other gold looks more bronze to me.

I had a few ice sessions, definitely feel stiffer than the P2, will take time getting used too, just loved those P2s so much. Rebounds are harder. Love the game ready glove it's a first vs the pro, and pucks fly off the blocker.  Slides better too.

Pad seems to sit a little higher, going to try loose everything as much as I can.  They are 33 plus 1.5.

Funny thing is that I got my new skates on the ice with these for the first time, they screwed up my first sharp because the black steel coating was on and I was sliding, went to another shop and they didn't fix it lol 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ I had 2 uncomfortable games so Friday now will be good.

Did they not cross grind the new skates? I just got fresh steel for my skates and only time I get to use them is for games so I’m a little worried about getting fresh steel and then going straight to a game with them.

  6. Idk why people hate on warrior graphics you can do so many different combinations and they offer traditional style graphics too. I’m probably the opposite of a lot of people and hate the tribal/ random line graphics. The velocity  pads graphics has never wowed me.

  7. I used TGC and got a sweet when they were running their covid deal. Exchange rate and discount made my total right around the price of custom leg pads alone from GM.

If you are south of the border then look at pricing from Canadian retailers If not I doubt that there will be many deals on Sr level stuff especially since the gear just came out.

Any of you guy's who have the G5's and have been able to use them able to give any updates on what you like or dislike about them?  Any obvious quality issues?

This is my first set of modern style pads (stiff, light, strapping) and love them so far! I’m coming from a Set of Simmons which were soft like Vaughn velocity’s. They give off awesome rebounds allowing me to clear the puck away from me and giving me time to recover. I don’t know if it’s just in my mind but I have played a lot better with these pads vs my old set. I’m making saves laterally I wouldn’t be able to do with my old gear. My old set in the third period would stick to the ice and not slide well but the warriors still slide side to side.

leg pads- I have a narrower BF but the single break still allows me to close it really well. I think I can get better closure with a stiffer single break thigh rise than my old double break pads.

blocker- I’m part of the group that says a blocker is a blocker but think this one changed my mind. I have a weaker blocker side but since switching I’m making tons of blocker saves and pinching them off the glass or Into the corner. The blocker is also really comfortable and the way it’s angled when you hold your stick most pucks who hit it deflect to the corners automatically.

glove- only gripe I have with the set and it’s ALL my fault is the glove, I am still getting use to it. I’m coming from a Simmons double T Vaughn style glove and the warrior is a single T and just feels different. That being said I have better closure with the warrior after 1-3 uses than my Simmons after using for 2/3 years, my Simmons still wouldn’t close all the way.

as of right now I am very happy with my G5’s. There were some slight cosmetic issues that didn’t mess with pad play. I would recommend the pads to anyone

  9. Has anyone’s pads been actually dented? I noticed there is a dent on the shin part of one of my pads. When you run your hand over it you can feel the foam actually dented in underneath.

  10. TGC said they have over 80 pairs of pants and after looking at their online selection they only have around 30 pairs posted. I wonder if they will put up more teams or if they have multiples of the same team/ sizes.  I really wanted the Kings pants but they are XL and 2” longer and I’m already swimming in my large premiers.

  11. I’m using both finger loops but I might just need to tighten down the strapping. I haven’t really tinkered with it that much but appears I need to. It felt weird to me to tighten down the straps and have the glove that tight but I might just be sure to wearing my other glove really loose

I tighten the strap running straight to my thumb, but kink it 90 degrees once it reaches my index finger, and finish the velcro off running up towards the pocket. Uses the maximum amount of velcro, and gets nice and tight right behind my knuckles. (I can share a pic if you want)

If your hand isn't thick enough for the velcro straps to get a nice snug fit, might need to use the leather thumb/pinky loops.

That would be great if you could. I think I got to just play around with the strapping to get it down. First glove I’ve had to mess with it, my other glove stayed on but it also was heavier and bigger.

  13. This is a dumb question but do you guys have any special methods for keeping your glove on?

im still getting use to the warrior glove and it’s kicking my ass I had several pucks pop out, which I know is user error and crappy tracking. One shot though almost took the glove off of my hand, I tightened the wrist strap and it seemed to help but not sure if you guys tighten down all the strapping each game.

probably just need to mess wi the strapping and catching.

It's a limiter to how far the neoprene knee sling will be able to stretch. It serves a stronger purpose when going behind the knee over down to the calf, but still has it's use.

So in theory the tighter the nylon strap is the less range of motion your knee will have going back and forth on the landing stack? So if someone wants to not let the pad move at all forward or back and want their knee to stay closer to the pad they would tighten the strap?

I use the boot strap as a professor strap with the knee strap down to the calf and the nylon knee strap removed.

What is the point of the nylon knee strap/buckle? To just keep the Velcro attached?
