I won't lie, I actually do not want to filter through every page to see if it was brought up or not. So sue me.

We all know that you can get a 1/2 or a 5/8 or a 3/4, etc when you bring your skates in for sharpening. One thing I've noticed and I take some responsibility for it is that they don't ask if you have 4mm or 3mm blades. My skates are Vapor X700 but with a custom 4mm blade.

I'm pretty confident that the hollows are not equal numbers from 4mm to 3mm, 1/2 can't necessarily be the same for both width...right?

That is true. 1/2 on 4mm is equivalent to 3/8 on 3mm, or so I heard.

I've come across positive reviews regarding the Passau ball hockey pads, and I'm curious to understand how they measure up against the Passau ice hockey pads. Are the materials and technologies utilized in both sets comparable? Aside from the integrated sliders on the ball hockey pads, are there any notable differences?

I'm contemplating saving up for a Passau ball hockey pad set and would appreciate hearing people's experiences with them.

On a separate note, how do the Passau ice pads stack up against butterfly pads from other established ice hockey companies? If I find satisfaction with the Passau ball hockey pads, I might consider investing in Passau ice pads when my current Bauer Supreme 1S Od1ns wear out.

Why did you just copy my OP?

    Borg brands are +1.5 thighrises

Wow. Is this convergent evolution (Bauer and Warrior happen to be the same size)?

  4. Large in Bauer is, at least nominally, a 35" pad. That said, Warrior runs small. I would need a 36" Warrior pad.

Warrior has a 1.5" thigh rise as stock.

@ilyazhito nope - Brian Heaton has zero hands in any of the current Brian's offerings. Its been a number of years (and a few changes in ownership to boot I believe) since Mr. Heaton had any involvement with the Brian's brand. FYI - if you weren't hip to it - Mr. Heaton passed a handful (or more) years ago.

Basically, Brian's inherited Brian's name, but nothing that Brian's did since the 2000s involved him. Maybe that is why Brian's and Vaughn pads are very similar.

  6. Is there any relation between the Heaton pads and the current Brian's pads? I wore Brian's Demons (old, pre-lockout Brian's butterfly pads), and would have gone with Optik pads if I haven't fallen in love with Bauer. Brian's and Vaughn are very similar in terms of performance characteristics (Primo and Quickslide are very similar substances), but I am curious if Brian Heaton contributed more than his name to the SubZero, Optik, and/or G-Netik lines.

I imagine the Vapour line in general outsells the Supreme line by a large margin. Most guys in the beer leagues around here aren't rocking Supreme gear if they're wearing Bauer. Hell, Warrior and Brians are more common place than seeing guys in a Supreme leg pad.

I've only seen someone wear an actual Mach pad (not M5) on the ice twice. Once was myself.

I wear Ultrasonic. I might go Mach once my Ultrasonic pads no longer work.

That is not non-standard or custom stick, it's 12 years old model and Bauer used to mark sticks like that. It's identical with current 23".

If I remember right 27" was 28,5", 26" was 27", 25" was 26,5" and 23" was 24,5". Bauer's measurement way was different between foamcores and composites. They changed the measurement way when they released 1S line.

That makes more sense. If I get a modern Bauer, I would probably be looking at either a 23 or 24. Strange to think that a 5'11 goalie would be using intermediate sticks, but it would make sense if I play a lot of butterfly.

  9. I have a pair of Bauer Elite skates that I bought about 2 years ago. I have replaced the stock blades earlier this year with Bladetech runners. I really love the skates, but unfortunately there were holes in the liner on the inside of both the left and right boots. A local hockey shop repaired the holes with helmet foam, but I found out that the skates ripped the skin on my heels when I played with them. I tried putting bandages on my heels to prevent the skates from ripping my skin again, but it didn't work. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem, or do I need to bite the bullet and get new skates?

I'll put up photos of the area when I get home.

stop getting hanged up on the length of the paddle,  u can change the paddle shoulders,  sand it down double slant or top slant or bottom slant.

Get  rocker blade shaped  and the paddle will be shorter at the same length vs a flat blade.

Is the rockered blade a custom stick spec?

I'm interested to learn more about sanding paddles, but I'm not sure how that would work with composite sticks. I'm using foam core sticks now, but I'm curious about replacements. The blades are getting very worn on the bottom.

It would be nice if Brian's made a stripped down pad like the Bauer hyperlights. Having demo'd an Optik set for a month and a half I'm now demo'ing the hyperlights and they feel so light. Was told the hyperlights slide best and have the hottesr rebounds, one game in I disagree, Optik3's better in both.

Wow! And I thought my Ultrasonic pads have rocket hard rebounds. Good to know that Brian's can give Bauer a run for their money.

    Of course.

Some stores don't have full right in stock, especially for lower price point gloves. However, I don't think Brian's will be that cheap with their new model.

Does any of this affect rebound hardness? I'm curious, because I love my Warrior blocker. I want to make sure I can get pads that will make the rebounds fly off them once my UltraSonics wear down completely.

  14. Where can someone buy a stick with a non-standard paddle length?

I'm asking, because I normally use 26" sticks, but I tried a 24.5" Bauer RX6 stick in a shop when waiting for my skates to be repaired. The only.reason I didn't pull the trigger was because there was only one of that stick.

When I went on the  Pure Hockey website  to look at stick lengths, both for custom and retail sticks, I only saw sticks in whole-inch increments (24", 25", or 26"). Are there any sources I could check to reliably find sticks in non-standard lengths (or order custom sticks in those lengths)?

    Thanks!

Lefevre is probably the best feeling glove materials wise as Bauer feels the cheapest.

I had a pair of low price point Lefebvre Reebok gloves, and they were impossible to open and close properly even after several years of use. I also tried on a pair of new Lefebvre EFlex 5.9 full right gloves (the last CCM gloves that Lefebvre produced), and they were impossible to open or close from the get-go. By contrast, an new Bauer Reactor 3000 opened and closed like a charm.

Please let me start with this is intended for informational purposes and is not to sway anyone from one brand to another. With the release of the ef6 and vapor 90, both being full hand 580 style gloves I wanted to do a comparison of the faces, shapes both opened and closed, back hand strapping, and how they play.

The True 580... The glove that set the standard.

The strapping is as to be expected. The recent change to Velcro pinky and thumb adjustment is pleasant, set and forget. The pass through of the wrist strap through the cuff makes for easy tightening without having to dig for the strap or binding. I will say that their pro palm is lacking in the protection area. But the glove closes like butter! The internal sure grip gets tacky when sweating making it easy to grip. Range of motion is decent. The pro palm protection is lacking. If reordered I'd go with pro extra to get the same level as ccm pro palm.

    The CCM 580...

While similar to the true 580 there are some subtle differences. The backhand has slightly different connections. Minor changes in the backhand. Glove face is almost a spitting image of the true in presentation and a face angle. The CCM still retains the external pinky string adjust. The wrist strap also passes through  the cuff making for easy tightening. Range of motion is similar to the True, but I feel the cuff isn't as open as the true. Pro palm protection is great as it has d30 in addition where true you have to do pro extra for the same.

Then there's this contraption... The ef6..

This glove as come wins and losses.. First off I will say that the range of motion is by far the best of all 4 of these gloves! The cross x strap with the newly segmented cuff make for easy articulation without interference. The thumb face however is a downfall. This thing is almost flat and has caused quite a few picks to bounce out as opposed to being funneled in. Protection of the pro palm is great. The lack of finger stalls puts alot of unwanted stress on your pinky and index finger when closing the glove.

The new to retail vapor 90..

Finally! Bauer has brought and option to try and level the playing field, sort of. First I will say that the glove closure feels more like a gnetik folding instead of a curve closure. The back hand is ridiculously tight in the back of your hand when closing, not to my liking. The back hand strapping is very similar to the ccm and true. But the wrist strap is not as pleasant as the ccm or true. Bauer retained the traditional external pinky strings. The internal liner is comfortable but 2 games back to back it starts to feel a little slippery in the fingers. Range of motion is again meh, but not as good at the true. Pro palm with dtc in the palm still leaves some to be desired. After multiple weeks of skates and being tied and stretched, this thing is still stiff!

Sorry for the quick bullet points. I will try to get measurements and face/thumb angles soon.

Awesome! It's good to see a fellow silly sider showing off the gear.

I wonder why Bauer is über-stiff. Usually it is the cheap Lefebvre gloves that are so stiff as to be unusable. I'll keep that it mind if I do look to buy a FR 580 glove.
