Those look awesome! Are you using the stock bungee toe ties?

Like they say, the goalies will work it out themselves. If three goalies, the most common method is to do a rotation like this, swapping positions every 10 to 15 minutes.

    Rotation.thumb.png.72a20018e47c2c58df31d50118cee3ac.png

If 4 goalies, you usually see a pair of goalies picking a side and swapping between themselves every 10 to 15 minutes. Often there is no rotating down to the opposite end, but again, that's something you can discuss with the other tenders.

Nearly all of my local rinks keep a paper list of players/goalies for a pick-up skate, even if they offer online registration. If I want to attend, I just call the rink and ask if they are any goalie spots available for the pick-up. If there are, they write my name down so my spot is reserved. Doing this, I've never had an issue showing up and not having a spot. I've seen other goalies get turned away because they arrived and there were already 4 goalies signed up.

I've seen 4 goalies maybe once at a pickup. The most I've usually seen is 3 at a Sunday evening pickup at a rink where that is the main hockey attraction, but I've more often been either the 2nd or only goalie at pickup sessions.

    Hey all,

Because of my own life stuff, I'm getting back into the game and looking for new pads. The last pads I bought were the Simmons version of the first generation Velocities in like 2002. Soooo the game has changed quite a bit since then....

I'd still use those pads on occasion (had helped coach a team a few years back)- I was never super thrilled with those because the thigh rise on pads back then was always short (leaky 5 hole). Back in my 'prime', I would have considered myself quite the butterfly style, though now would be considered an old man hybrid type.

Things I'm concerned about in a new pad-

-Sizing: Kind of hard for me to get to places where I can try on pads, but may have to rely on online ordering. In my ancient pads, I was a 34" (6ft tall) but never felt they came up high enough (no extra thigh rise for pads off the shelf back then)

-Butterfly slide: Never was able to do this in old pads and it looks like all pads are built around this now. Has anybody else made a similar transition? I feel like I'm gonna feel like I'm sliding out of control out there unable to stop.

-Rebounds: Honestly the concept of giving out really fast/hard rebounds is blasphemous from everything I was ever taught growing up, but that's the way the game is played now. I was reading that the CCM EFlex 5 was maybe the best at deadening rebouds and maybe a good transition for me.

Any recommendations that you all can give would be appreciated. Money is not an object in my situation (always wanted to be in a situation where I didn't need to cheap out on pads and here I am).  Still, would hate to drop $1800 on pads that stink. Also looking for catcher/blocker but I'm less worried about those- recommendations still welcomed.

    Thanks!

I have a pair of Bauer 2S Pros available for US$380 plus shipping. They are a size Large (equivalent to a 35+1). They kick out hard rebounds and are pretty good at sliding. I also have a pair of Ultrasonics for US$550 plus shipping in the same size. I haven't listed the Ultrasonics yet, but I intend to do so soon. Sliding on the Ultrasonics is seriously otherworldly. Slides that took some effort to perform with the 2S Pros are very smooth. With the Ultrasonics, I have to focus on stopping.

Let me know which one you are interested in, and I can send out pics to you.

  4. I have a pair of 35+1 (Large) 2S Pro pads in good condition that I am selling because they are too small. I have upgraded the pads with ProLaces. They have very hot rebounds (I have literally had shots go off them to the blue line) and good sliding ability. The only pad that slides better than them is my new L Ultrasonic pair.

These pads sell for $380 US plus shipping. If you are in the DC area, you will not have to pay shipping. In that case, PM me to arrange local pickup.

Don't think they would, why would they.

I get it. However, it is odd to see that Passau mentions that there could be production delays for full right gloves.

Just heard Trav will be in the Fed which is hilarious to me because one of my teammates last year made a Fed team after we had a 3-44-0 season in the NA3HL. Clearly the bar is super low to get into that league and Trav barely scraped by getting on an expansion team

That's great for him. Maybe he can parlay his time in the Fed into an ECHL contract.

Please note that I am talking about the first generation Supreme and the second generation Vapor. Those are the ones I owned. on the second generation Bauer skinned to cortech.skin.st. and the gliding of this iteration of the skin was worse than that of the first. I can’t say that Vapors, as another line of pads in itself, glides a priori worse than the Supreme line

I noticed. Sliding was a lot easier on my 1S Od1n pads than on my 2S Pros.

Look up the dude's Facebook profile, it's REALLY weird

You have to be at least a little weird to play in net. Glenn Hall barfed before every game - and he has the record for most consecutive games played in NHL history and pioneered the butterfly save, together with Tony Esposito. Jacques Plante was the first goalie to permanently don a mask, and he also had a few screws loose. Heck, Patrick Roy talked to his posts.

I have Asperger's and thank my posts and crossbar for making saves.

Honestly I would go for the M5 Pro's, at least for the leg pads. I haven't personally demoed them, but I played around with them in store and they seem to be 90% of what my Pro level Mach's offer. May not last as long, but if you're playing beer league 1-2x a week you won't notice a huge difference.

I play both ice and ball hockey. This means that I might be playing up to 6 days a week when I'm not busy with school or refereeing. I don't know how long M5s will take that.

This is why I have mostly worn used pro-level pads.

This looks awesome. If it works well, I might buy a used Mach set later, or else save up to buy a Mach 2 when that comes out.

I was just about to come and say the same thing. Even after just 3 skates sliding feels much easier than the first few sessions. I still get caught on snow from time to time since the seal on the pads is so good that it just pushes the snow.

I've never heard of the skin on pads breaking in, but it makes sense. Gloves and skates also need to break in for optimal performance.
