  1. I bought an aegis neck guard recently and had to trim a good amount of the padding out of the neck. Guys who know materials, is there anyway for me to reuse this and make it into another piece of padding? I don’t think it would melt down right? Just would be cool to reuse and make into a palm padding piece or something, thanks.

I've gotten back into playing within the past year and a half after a long layoff of several years- which meant getting all new gear.

Started back by buying a Bauer Mach in October 2022. I suppose off the shelf its reasonably close to a 600 break. Easy to catch, extremely lightweight, pocket presents very deep. Kinda is floppy (opening and closing at this point is buttery now), less protection but still very few stingers. I stink at playing the puck, and the 600 closure I think does not help in that regard. Would have preferred full finger stalls, but this glove's system is adequate. Definitely feel my findgers sliding around in there when trying to play the puck on the backhand in a wet glove.

Was convinced after about a year to get a True 9x3 off the shelf, 590 break. I honestly cannot get used to the glove. Very high quality, extremely protective, but its basically a second blocker. I feel the pocket doesn't present too large and (granted its because I'm just not that good) sooo many pucks hit the palm and bounce away. Plus, I'm way slower and the glove just feels heavier.

My point: I feel the Bauer is so buttery that its going to eventually break down. I might need to search for a new one soon, but am reluctant as I have a slight bias in thinking that Bauer gear tends to break down a little faster. I'm not in an area where I have a shop with large amounts of stock for me to try on. Are there specs on other brands of gloves that are in line with the Bauer Mach from other brands (Brian's, CCM, Warrior)? I'd love for True to match up the same, but it has not been my experience. The light weight of Bauer is good for my weak arms (granted, I know balance of how the weight is distributed is important as well). I suppose it might be nice to transition to a 590 or 580 at some point for puck handling, but is absolutely not a priority.

Feel free to give opinions on blockers too. I seem to like the pop I get off my equally old Bauer Hyperlite, though I also fear some material is wearing down too. The 9.3 blocker seems to not kick rebounds out to the corner as well as I'd like.

I went from 590 to 580 and it’s a very similar break in my experience. Definitely not something I’d buy if you like your mach and can’t try out without commitment. I agree with some of the others on just stick with the mach. True will feel heavy to you and Ccm 600s aren’t great without extensive break in. Brian’s stuff is good but may feel a little heavy, and Vaughn gloves aren’t for everyone. Definitely a tough situation but I’d stay with a supreme glove

Best luck with low end Sher-Wood composite like my Rekker M70..Three years ago I purchased the Rekker M70 and A Bauer Supreme S27, both sticks $129.99 each. Long story short, the M70 is still going strong, the S27 was replaced with another S27 and that replaced with two weeks left this last season with a Bauer GSX that looks and feels like a cheaper S27.

I’ve always really liked the Sherwood sticks, just hard to find in stores in the us. When I go across the border for tournaments they always feel great just never pulled the trigger on one. Maybe next time I will

After years of using Rubatex, I switched to

    Dual Density Poron

    Colours - Black/Black overlay

    Firmness - Soft

Properties - Neoprene blend base foam with a 1/8" overlay of soft Poron material.

l’ve had this in my mask for about 18 months now.  Biggest difference I notice is that when taking a decent shot off the mask, I don’t get any kind of ringing at all. Just sort of a quiet “thump” and that’s it.  I believe that’s due to the poron absorbing more energy than the rubatex.  Take this as anecdotal evidence only - I have not done any testing at all.

I was really considering but there's a couple reviews of guys getting concussed in a dual layer foam from resilient. I don't remember if it's the neoprene poron or not but whatever it was turned me off really fast. I need to see a video of the shock absorption like @SentryHockey mentioned before going with that.

I dunno where Dom gets the foam for his masks, it doesn't seem to get crusty.  I actually had Dom add a 1/8" layer of D30 in the cheeks and crown of my most recent mask

yeah wish i could get the real stuff, hopefully someday I can save enough for one.

I went with two sheets of bulk rubatex in different thicknesses, ended up not using one sheet. I only got on the ice with it one time because I cant wear cateyes yet. The time I used it it felt great. For how thick the mask I put it in (Rey swiss) is it felt light. Also my first time in that mask. For protection it didn't see much. I had a shot around the side chin that barely hit the mask and a stick impact to the temple that didn't hurt at all. I'm excited to use the mask next season once I repaint it again and I'll probably get the rubatex from resilient again as long as it doesn't harden on me. Maybe experiment with mixed foams next time?

also went with this because i love the cream foam look proschoice uses haha

Did you ever get new foam for your mask? If so what did you get? And do you like it?

If that stick is anything like the Axis one, I want nothing to do with it.  I obsoletely love the Eflex stick personally.

What’s the difference? I used warrior forever and didn’t feel too much difference switching between lines

I don´t thing it would be much of help, it is just small piece for finger protection, impact to the stick will still be there. But never tried 😉.

I think it might help during puckhandling. I had a chip at that spot for most of the sticks life and the one week I used it without tape there I broke it shooting. Might’ve just been the sticks time to go and I’m overthinking all of it though too

  10. Just tried the mach and I love this thing, has a ton of pop and almost too light because I’m not used to it yet. The material feels almost slippery catching pucks where there isn’t tape which is kinda weird there probably isn’t really a difference there though that’s prob just me. And I got a tiny crack on the top edge of the blade worrying me. Hopefully holds up and performs the same as it did yesterday for the next while

You can definitely feel they are lighter and shoots puck realy well, but on the other side, I take lot of shots to the stick in place under the blocker, just where sticks with "spine" usualy break. And I don´t like them visually, but that is my problem 😄.

    That’s what made my v3, and v2 crack C8EC0B52-985C-489B-9938-86A6A98B1F38.thumb.jpeg.f85a20b0f4b27331d7f3e746938aa733.jpeg

maybe a blok/paddle wedge could help that area?

One thing to note with the Warrior models is the lie of the stick.

They are generally a little more upright (closer to a true "L" shape) where the blade meets the paddle.  I haven't noticed this with other manufacturers. This may be why the toe of your blade is off the ice in both stance and butterfly

The True looks like a better fit for you.  With the Warrior in the butterfly, your right elbow and blocker look a little tucked back - and it looks tough to get your entire blade on the ice

Maybe that’s what felt weird to me with the true. Inch or two bigger paddle and it still felt pretty comfortable in butterfly. I noticed my blocker angle was different too I wonder if that was something I might’ve changed subconsciously because of the stick, or playing with positioning on camera. That’s a great call out though I never noticed that before. Maybe why I get more power with my warrior vs more loft with the true because of the lie change

I was honestly a big fan of the senior line Bauers I custom ordered a few years ago when Ultrasonic was the high end.  I think they were tagged 3S?

Really good pop when playing the puck and they were tanks.

Have had pretty bad luck with Bauers otherwise (2S: broken spine, Hyperlite: holes in paddle).

Was gonna go with an m5 until I saw Machs were 200. Was really impressed with it I forgot how nice they were

Not sure what paddle size you use but if you can start getting into pro returns they have far outlasted my retail sticks. Also custom sticks from Bauer have always done well for me.

For sure next stick will be pro stock, just needed something with a warranty for now so if it breaks I can get a new one. My backup v2pro+ is on its last legs and probably wouldn’t last more than a few skates

Has anyone had the luxury of comparing a Brians sr medium and a bauer sr medium or large side by side? If so would love to hear how they fit.

I felt some smalls, I believe they fit similar, don’t quote me on this though it was in November lol. What I am confident on is that the optik 3 is a solid unit. If I had the money to drop on one I would

  16. Took these pics the other day and thought about this thread and thought it’d be a good idea to post as a visual for how the stick interacts with 6 hole for me. The true is about 25.5-26 (pro stock with sloped shoulder so hard to tell) and the warrior is a 25(equates to 24 with warrior measurement)

I recently got a Bauer pro series. Non nhl spec.  Was used by connor ungar.  Took a little getting use to compared to my hyperlite but I’m loving the mobility and protection of it.

All of this^^^  If you're actually seeing color build up rapidly you're probably spraying too heavily.  Also, using a good quality primer that matches that paint being applied over it and working in a dust free environment are equally crucial.   Good paintjobs cost a bunch because it's meticulous, time consuming and detail oriented work.  Great paintjobs require all of that plus experience and an artist's touch.   I've never even managed a mediocre paint job, and it's largely because I get impatient with the amount of detail work in the prep.

Edit:  I forgot to wish you luck.   You probably won't actually save money painting your mask, but it's worth trying at least once for the opportunity to learn.

The prep was my favorite part. When I move on from this mask probably not gonna paint my own mask again, but it was really fun I'm gonna be more patient when I repaint for the season.

Also I think the paint I used wasn't great. I had a white base of some sort of Rustoleum, then I sprayed krylon red for lines and it worked so much better. Gonna grab that same paint in white for a base next time.
