All of this^^^ If you're actually seeing color build up rapidly you're probably spraying too heavily. Also, using a good quality primer that matches that paint being applied over it and working in a dust free environment are equally crucial. Good paintjobs cost a bunch because it's meticulous, time consuming and detail oriented work. Great paintjobs require all of that plus experience and an artist's touch. I've never even managed a mediocre paint job, and it's largely because I get impatient with the amount of detail work in the prep.
Edit: I forgot to wish you luck. You probably won't actually save money painting your mask, but it's worth trying at least once for the opportunity to learn.
The prep was my favorite part. When I move on from this mask probably not gonna paint my own mask again, but it was really fun I'm gonna be more patient when I repaint for the season.
Also I think the paint I used wasn't great. I had a white base of some sort of Rustoleum, then I sprayed krylon red for lines and it worked so much better. Gonna grab that same paint in white for a base next time.

Hey guys, working on refurbishing mask for next season. How can I prevent these streaks/lines from rattlecans? Fortunately I’m just using this paint job as a tester for the spring and repainting during the regular season so the streaks don’t really matter right now, but I’d like to know how to stop these for next time. Really happy for my first time though! Red accent lines going on tomorrow afternoon

Surprised Simmons wouldn’t do it. Ask kenesky as they still make some old school stuff. Paw might do it too like you thought

I don’t think it’s super hot. I also put a little peppermint oil on my chest and neck to keep cool. The rinks in Austin run a little warm in the summer, so maybe that has me conditioned to the heat.
Might try that soon, I spilled smelling salts on my chesty once and always liked the little bit of smelling salt smell lol

Ended up just drilling it out. I was really worried about drilling it out because I’ve never drilled a screw out but it ended up fine lol. New issue is the hole is even more corroded than the one above it. Don’t believe it will be an issue with the fiberglass but can’t really tell.

Coming back for a question...
@Mroy31 and @coopaloop1234 when you wear/wore it, did you find the lower grey flaps useless in the design? I've seen a couple used ones out there (1S/2S) where the flaps were removed. I'm guessing it was to make more room when in your crouch. Seeing how it fits long on me, I was wondering if that would help with the fit or not. I do have the wing straps pulled as tight as they go to keep it up. No interference in the throat or mask.
My pro series has the same body design as 2s. I find them fine for me because my chest is a little small, but I can see how it could get in the way of the cup and when they move around it’s really annoying. Not a lot of protection at least in mine maybe 2s pro is different. I think if it’s long and it’s in an area you’re covered why not

I ordered some 275 paracord for my glove from this place https://paracordgalaxy.com/ awhile ago and it’s been great. 275 is smaller than the stuff that the manufacturers use but that’s what Thatcarguy told me to get so that you can see through it better, but if you want the stock size I would go with the 325 or 425 as there both 3mm just different strengths
This, I had some leftover from stringing a lax stick and it’s held up all season. I’ll upload a pic in a bit once I’m home

The people at Simmons are so nice and informative. I got to check out their new matrix set and it reminds me a lot of the Optik line. Strapping was different on all of the sets there so I can’t comment on that, to my memory they were mid stiff, probably similar to a vapor pad maybe slightly stiffer. Felt like a good pad. Gloves are nice the blocker is nothing special but the 580 feels really similar to my trues I’ve had. I would go with them over battram just because battram gear hasn’t evolved in about a century

I’ve always used random Amazon tights. Up top I’ve been playing with a ve8 shirt and v10 neck guard to compensate for a super undersized chesty. Once I got in my Bauer pro series chest that created too much space between me and the chest and I felt awful. I tried no neck guard and got hot so what I’m doing now is no shirt+v10 neck guard and I’ll probably stick with that. Zoombang stuff looks pretty sick if I could get my hands on that

I hope you can heal quickly! What toe ties were they? When I demoed bauers I always thought they had tight toe ties, thought the same with Ccm but never tried on the ice

X5 will be lighter than m5 for sure, thinner board. If you can I’d say get hyperlite 2 if you can’t x5 will be just fine

I'd bring in the slack at the toes for sure. Would also consider tightening up the knee block elastic
I’ll try in a week or two and get back to this thread, hopefully we can win states and I can do all the gear experiments I want

So I got samples of every foam, in the same thickness that's commercially available and dropped a 5lb steel ball on them. I then watched to see how many times the ball bounced, which to me showed which one absorbed and dissipated the most amount of shock.
Off the top of my head, the results were something like this
1) D30
2) Shocktec
3) one of the Poron varieties I got a sample of straight from Rogerscorp. I remember it was yellow but cant recall the name.
4) Rubatex
5) Poron from resilient that has the overlay
6) all the eva foams were about the same
7) gel from shocktec which is what Maltese used.
One day I'll do a video of this and show the test results
A video of this data would be really cool! D3O being in the package is what made me consider going with pharoah’s foam. Honestly might buy a sheet for the mask and beef my glove up a bit

Can you post pictures of your leg in the leg pad?
Picture doesn't really show anything, just a mass of black gear.
How tight is your knee block velcro to the outer calf wrap?
How loose is your lower FRS?
3-4" of slack is insane. I have shit hips and my ties are at 2", inset
Was on the ice yesterday but I forgot to take pics lol. Took these today

What do you guys believe is the safest foam for a mask? I read through all the threads I can find and I’m leaning towards resilient str and normal rubatex. Any additional suggestions? Never felt gel foam so that kind of turned me away from shocktec stuff.

Sorry haven’t been logged in for a bit, I’ll get some pics next time I skate. I have the lower frs fairly loose I don’t think my knee block is very tight though. I’ll probably shorten my toe ties if I can get a not serious skate. Playing the best team on our schedule in playoffs soon so not trying to change up too much lol

My setup right now is bladetech with a mirror finish. Noticeably taller than my old blades (whatever black steel comes with 2s pros) I got a SAM profile on them and I love it. Only thing with these blades is for some reason they wobble around so much. When I put my Bauer blades in they don’t move but when I put the blade tech in they move when I shake the skate. I didn’t stress about it until it got to the point where I could feel the instability. I put some clear tape over the front “spike” that goes into the holder and haven’t had issues.

Vaughn SLR 4
in Gear
This just came out on Vaughns instagram, tough angle to get the whole pad in but they’re showing off the “carbon core tech” here. You get a really good view on how they do an integrated knee block, looks similar to @ser33’s optiks

What sticks have given you the best luck durability wise??

Just snapped my Warrior V3i and looking at a new stick. The v3 wasn’t bad on durability but felt like it broke down quicker than others. I bought a Brian Elliott True 9x hoping for a good deal and it ended up being a super heavy foam core and not for me and my little arms at all. What are you guys using?
