  2. Haven't been on in a bit. Sorry for late response.

You youngins get a lot of empty promises by showcases, tournaments, camps, etc. My kids get tons of emails and calls by these places. They talk a good game, sell you on a dream, and leave you with a lot less money and feeling almost forgotten in the end. It's shitty. They lie. Sounds like you're getting this treatment heavily.

Hate to say it - it's hard to come to the realization that your sports career can only go this far.

I did it with baseball myself. D1 to D3 to whatever. I played into my 40s still. All great memories.

You can work as hard as you can but in the end, the guys who advance are absolute freak shows in talent and size and a ton of luck. Not catching that ride isn't a bad thing.

You've had some killer experiences with hockey. Sure the game play or coaching sucked (most times they do regardless) - but whatever. You got to do more than most others have. You may think you're living a crappy time - but there are hundreds of other people who wish they did a fraction of what you did.

Be proud of what you've done and where you've been. Don't stop playing. Go wherever you can go and do it proudly.

99% of guys playing adult league would have given their left nut to play any type of college hockey. Let alone the Juniors teams you been a part of.

Like Chenner said, you are gaining more life skills than you can imagine. Not to mention that you will also have stories that every other dad will ENVY forever. You'll see.

Nobody sees what they have while they're in the thick of it. You're 100% normal in thinking how you are now.

Us older guys will tell you that you're doing it perfectly. Trust us, you'll look back in time and really appreciate how awesome this is.

With lower talent levels, sometimes the guy is just trying to roof it bar down, but their mechanics might indicate they're shooting it into the bench

    This is funny.

Add in the d men who will whiff on an easy puck, tip other ones, skate into you, etc.

But they're in C league where they belong and this is just what happens. They feel bad and want to apologize to you. So you just smile and say "It's my bad, I should have had the shot" ...since we're nice dudes.

More of my collection to share. Jim Carey's Pro return Pro 90Z from the 93-94 season when he played for Wisconsin. I consider them Pro returns because he was drafted by the Washington Capitals in 1992.

Kick_Saves' pads are the equivalent of the guy at the dinner party who walked on the moon.

Oh you have some Heaton stuff. Wow. Impressive.

    I have Jim Carey's pads.

    Pass the potatoes please.

  5. Is Turbo Tax as good as using an accountant? I always used a family member for my taxes - but due to family conflicts - I'm not this year.

It's just me and my one job for taxes. Really straightforward.

I ran them through turbo tax already but didn't file yet. Was looking to ensure this was my best bet.

  6. I skated monday night in a small rink 3v3 game (with my 17 year old son). Took a million shots, so I worked on the technique of leaning into it more. I also concentrated on keeping my elbow tighter. Way better night. Although most shooters were younger guys who could really play.

My struggles are in the 40+ C league games.

Odd as this sounds to non-goalies, the slower shots are harder most times to stop. You have your reactive save mode but I can't use that. Instead I have to think about making a save. Maybe why I've been reaching for shots stick side.

  7. I just sold my last Pete Smith glove. I had a few of them I was hoarding for myself. Haven't used them in a while. Figured I'd let them go to other goalies who will use them.

    You're welcome goalie gods.

Flyers managed to smuggle 6’8” Ivan Fedotov out of a Russian gulag and got him to Vorhees Nj, which is arguably worse than being trapped in Russia.

    Ouch

  9. In the past few months, I've been scored on mostly through my armpit on stick side.

I lost like 70 pounds in the past year - so I'm a little less wider now.

Would changing sticks help? I've had straight up misses with my blocker that go through. I've had a bunch hit me in the thigh and skip on through too. I obviously need to keep my elbow tighter. We don't practice, so it's hard to break habits.

Thought a shorter paddle would force me to keep my arm out and tighter to my side?

    I use a 26" bauer now.

I had a 27" True I used for a while and thought I did better with. But it seems like a taller paddle would put my blocker higher and push my arm up more. Maybe I'm nuts?

I switched blockers too. You know, its the gear's fault.

And then who enters the dressing room but Mats Sundin and says "cool gear kid" to your son while giving everyone else the death stare :D

His white game socks are kinda thin. So the Jofa logo is visible. I've heard a few parents talk about his 'cool Jofa shins'.

I'm in Philly. My kids wouldn't know Mats Sundin (sadly) even if he came in wearing his jersey and holding his HoF plaque.

  12. Sold the unicorns for $400. Someone paying 400 for shin pads will treat them right. The price tag on them was $40 I paid for them a long time ago from the Flyers gear sale. Decent return on investment I guess.

Nobody younger will appreciate these, especially at $500. Kids my age will just buy whatever is new regardless of preference. Might find some people in their late 30s or early 40s who are interested

My kids think these are odd since they're not Bauer of CCM. Sweden? Who cares?

My older one wears a pair of old CCM shins his buddy gave him when he got a new pair.

My 14 year old wears Jofa shins now. I picked up a new old stock pair. Says the kids on his team joke about them.
