Truth @MTH. The populace in general is difficult to navigate. Just means the dating pool is also tough. I mean - if its hard to run into good folks out in the world in general - dating one of them is going to prove at least equally challenging. Good luck though - I have to believe that being a genuine person pays dividends eventually.

I'm doing just that. I'm pretty nice. I think most aren't. So the ladies are caught off guard by me.

Doesn't work like that in Buttmens NHL. He could care less who's in it along as he makes big money on it. Honestly I have gotten to the point I don't care about the Winter Classic anymore as the NHL has over hyped/marketed it so much. It was nice when the 1st one was done but slowly the NHL destroyed the special meaning of it. Now is just another game during the season.

Conversely having the same teams in it year after year got kinda old too. Think the best one was the Penguins Sabres in the snow and Syd scoring.

National interest is gone for sure. So now it's a traveling circus to get the new markets into the show.

ASG - there's a point of diminishing returns for pro sports. The ASG was tinkered with so long for so many decades now - it's no longer a classic event or even an all star game in the true sense of the phrase. The diminishing returns can also be said about throw back uniforms (the wow factor is a day now) new gear on goalies (they wear new gear all the time) and even highlight goals. Bobby Orr scores one goal against Blues as he's falling and it's ICONIC. Today guys are making passes to each other in the air and batting them in. We may give it 5 seconds of attention now.

  3. Well, my pads are RichMan's old V1 pads. I think they're 1999 edition.

V1 Blocker that I have repalmed a few times.

T4000 catch because it's the best.

I think the Bauer stick I started using again I bought a long time ago. I retired it and recently put it back in service... maybe a 2010. Don't laugh, I used it for roller only for years then retired it.

  4. How far of a drive is it from Philly to Seattle? You'll regret not trying to get in. $300 is what, 3 tanks of gas in your vehicle?

When the Flyers had it at the Phillies stadium years ago I went and did public skating on the rink. The ice was as bad as the parking lots. I learned that they actually spent a week building up the ice leading to the Winter Classic game, then just dry cut it the week after for all the other events on the ice. By the time I got on the ice, there wasn't much left. Also explained why there was a HUGE pile of snow from the Zamboni on the side of the field.

You play real hockey, a.k.a. not-for-beer.

Don't sell yourself short.   We love you.

All things we do lead to beer. So even if you're getting paid to play, you in turn spend said funds on beer in order to work up some courage to partner up with a cute girl or boy. After that you need more beer to cope with mentioned partner.

So no matter how you cut it - we all play for beer.

Let's not forget about Garth Snow and his Gladiator style upper body foolishness.

With all due respect. Garth was an average career NHL goalie. The gear shenanigans didn't make him superior the other guys playing. He got into the league looking like this:

6'3" 200 lbs. Those pads look like 34" pads and weighed 5x as much as today's 36+2 pads.

And how WIIIIIDE pads were. People forget how much narrower modern pads are than pre-2005 lockout.

    Only one inch narrower.

    Just Sayin'

Modern pads are much taller and boxier though. So they look drastically different.
