    Mckenney Gear

Haven't got them yet but if the quality is anything like their other pieces I use I don't think you can go wrong for the price.

Hmm, weird, they show up for me. Have a pair of prospec pants bring shipped today so they are definitely still making those!
  3. I would assume because when you are full right you shoot right handed and when you are regular you shoot left handed. Either that or because you catch with your right hand instead of the left.
  4. Picked up a pair of SLR Pros on clearance. Really excited to get them on the ice. Crossing my fingers they reopen the arenas in Ontario soon!
  5. There was an extra flap of protection for the index finger that was laced in where you can see the holes in the side wall. It was getting in the way of the paddle on my stick and thought it was overkill. I have since put the lace back in.

    Mckenney Gear

Picked up myself a 895 Pro Catcher and 870 Pro Blocker today. Was a great sale at my local shop. Only had them on the ice for one session that for some reason everyone was shooting low so they didn’t get much use the first time out. Will update after a longer period with a more detailed review so this is more of a first impression. Catcher: So, so comfortable to wear. Has a 590 feel to it which is my most natural break so that helps but I don’t think I’ve ever had a glove that felt like such a pillow on the inside. Closes like a dream and that’s without any break in what so ever. Has a beautiful deep skate lace pocket that the puck just dies in. Had a couple times that the puck didn’t want to get out of it as I’m sure it was as comfortable in there as my hand but as I’m not the biggest puck handler I don’t think that will really affect my game too negatively. Blocker: Did a mod to this piece right away and removed extra protection from the index finger as it was getting in the way of my stick. Need to put the lace back in as you can see the holes in the one picture but that is just aesthetics. One thing I noticed while playing was that the glove was really tightly connected but as I looked at it, it has an adjustable strap that loosens the connection to the finger protection and once I adjusted that it felt great. Well balanced and very light. I love that both pieces have a large opening to make room for the chest protector arms and that they won’t get caught up on them. I obviously can’t speak on the durability but the build quality is top notch and rivals any piece I’ve had from the big boys so I’m not expecting to have any issues in that regard. If you have questions let me know!
  7. I think it looks a bit off because it's white with a stainless steel cage. If it was coloured/painted with the white window and a white cage it would look like the picture below or really close to it.
  8. My last few sets were all colour based with Navy and Royal blues with some black and silver mixed in. I have now switched to white base with black accents. I find it easier to match with different gear/jerseys. I just wore my new xlts for the first time last week and everybody just wanted to put Mark's on them. Probably helped me make a few saves as they were trying to hit me! Lol
  9. For kneepads I bought some 1x and haven't looked back. Comfortable and crazy protective. Comes with a garter belt if you want to use it but even without the belt I havent felt them slip at all.
  10. Everybody showing off their new CCM Premier ll's and here I am 4 years behind in my new XLTs. Ah well, couldn't beat the deal I got from @thebigm
  11. Brand new 35+2 XLTs. Double break to help an old fat man close that 5 hole. Thanks to @thebigm at Skater's Edge Sudbury for the great deal as per USUAL!
  12. I think it's a great article and topic for discussion. Hearing both sides of it has definitely opened my eyes to the artists side of it. Without this discussion I had already started to lean towards wanting my own original designs. That picture of my Eddy with the Potvin was actually just before I repainted it with an original design. After this discussion I am leaning even more in the favor of keeping my designs on things like this original. At the most would use prior works as inspiration but wouldn't copy again.
  13. When I had my Potvin mask when I was younger I never thought of it as a clone or plagiarism. I had an Eddy mask and the shell was very much like a Harrison. When my dad gave me the opportunity to get it painted it wasn't even a second thought to get my favourite goalie's paint job and again it was more of homage to Potvin then to the guy who painted it. As I got older however, I did crave more original work. Right now I just have plain white but always think of what i would get that would better symbolize myself then who I cheer for. Any vinyl work I have done that may have been Potvin inspired would always have my own personal twist on it so it wouldn't be an exact copy. Availability would be an issue as well. For a random guy in Northern Ontario playing at local rinks it's not like I would have the connections to contact these guys to have them do the work but for other pros or college guys, I do think its unacceptable they wouldn't try that route as I'm sure it was available to them. I've always been more bothered by the copying of designs by the pad manufacturers. And I don't mean the one offs like when someone gets the Potvin Koho design or Brodeur Heaton design. I mean when places like Simmons and Battram straight out copy stock graphics from places like Vaughn, CCM or Brian's. That to me is like they are trying to fool the customer that their product is the same as the other manufacturers. Maybe that makes me a hypocrite that I believe one is okay and other not but that's okay, thats how I see it.

    Bauer Gear

I just demoed a large 1s set tonight. I use 35+2 premiers and I found them a tad small. I would go up to an XL. They weren't horrible but would notice my knee being too high on a couple of slides.
  15. About 4 weeks total with the shipping from Ontario.
  16. Had my Brodeur model that was built in 2014 refurbished by Michel and it's absolutely gorgeous. All new foam, harness, snaps and buckles. Also had it repainted from a glossy navy blue to the matte white. Love it!
  17. Yeah it's a long wait, but the results speak for themselves. Like I've said before, best purchase I've ever made gear related. I don't have any particular brand loyalty. I've tried many different brands from Vaughn to Bauer to Brian's etc. When anyone asks me to pick my favourite pads or gloves I always have a couple different answers. I only have one answer for best mask. Nothing beats Protechsport.
