I swear... I’ve seen this graphic before

At least it's not a Koho. But still.

It would take next to nothing to send a letter or phone call to Battram to cease and desist. Don't even need a lawyer. I sure would.

Was just thinking... Maybe Battram can make me some Vaughn clone pads and blocker with a 590 glove, Potvin graphic, with Heaton logos? Cause that would be amazing

Ugh.....please let the Potvin crap just die?

Five pages of this thread and no one brought up this:

    moog.jpg

As 'kids', we all nearly passed out when we saw Moog's vintage-inspired Vaughn setup - incredibly meta less than a decade after colors on goalie equipment become ubiquitous. Clone? Copy? Theft? Unethical business practice?  Pfffft... These are the shit, plain and simple.

We're not talking about Monet or Rembrandt or Basquiat, we're talking about curves, lines, slashes, and triangles on a goalie pad. Is it ALWAYS plagiarism that we've all taken words and put them in the same order that someone has probably done prior? Perhaps a company should shy away from branding equipment with any manufacturer's name, but "graphics"?... Is anyone really losing sleep over this?

    How about this one?: https://kenesky.com/retro-pads.php

Not sleep, money. And that's what it really comes down to.

  4. Basically cancelled my Vaughn order. They are so slow and so disorganized. This simplest things and requests get left unnoticed and forgotten. Yes, it is a busy time of year but I cannot and will not chase a manufacturer to want to give them my money. Unlikely I'll spend any money with them any time soon, it's clear they don't want it.

    These look great.
I like how you took elements of the Habs logo without putting the entire logo on one piece outright.  Very subtle!

    Thank you.

I'm no professional so no way I could do a full logo on there. To be honest I'm not sure I would do a full logo, I saw a Battram pad done up some years ago with full Canadiens' logos and it looks tacky.

  6. Based on price, ridiculous wait times and Mike Vaughn's recent goofy comments I read in that online article,  I have been more then reluctant to proceed with my order......but the Ventus pad just speaks to me. So I put the order in. Shame I couldn't get the Velocity 8 Pro Carbon XP glove with a custom graphic so went with an Epic 8880. So I hope to have my stuff in before the next Olympics and have a good review.

I have heard more than a few shady stories about Greg Harrison taking deposits with no mask in exchange and thusly keeping the money; should that not negate his indignance about people copying his artwork?  Wouldn’t taking deposits with no mask be theft in the same if not more egregious way as stealing a paint job?

Doesn't sound like Greg at all. Source?

  8. I really have nothing more to add except that I wish (certain) painters would stop ripping off other paint jobs. And although I do have some friends in the industry that are doing this, I cannot and will not condone or support the blatant rip off of the 961 or any other mask. They know who they are. Even if they are marveled at reading this thread.

On a more personal note, this isn't 1995 and I'm really tired of seeing the Cat paint job. It's so overdone that it's not even cool anymore. It's like the lame go-to paint job when the goalie lacks an imagination or creativity to come up with his own personal theme. I still go on to the ice and play against other goalies that have it and I just wana facepalm myself but can't cus I have my own mask on. And other than the fact that I know that Greg Harrison didn't get a cent's worth of that paint job, it just bugs me and I can't say exactly why. And I'm not typically the kind of person that likes to be critical of other people's gear-making decisions or trash what people wear. Aside from the morale of it all, be your own goalie, do your own things. There's lots of material out there to work with. Being inspired and borrowing ideas from the past are okay I'd say. But I truly admire a goalie with something original to offer and show off. I'd rather see a plain white or black mask rather than a copy. For those that are offended or don't agree, I'm not the goalie-mask police here. It's just what I think and I know I'm not alone on it.

  9. @TheGoalNetGlad something like this was finally posted.

This was probably all fueled by how I lost my temper way back when. Most people are genuinely ticked off when they see something happen to a friend by someone else. In this case it was my buddy Steve Nash at Eye Candy Air and seeing several other artists taking his Battle Armor Quick paint design and painting as their own, not asking for permission to do it and simply doing it anyway and pocketing the cash. That's someone else taking your buddy's work, taking credit for it and getting paid for it. It's stealing - to me. And that's a copyrighted design. It's an eye-opener and until it hits home or affects you or someone close.  Pretty easy to sit there and say "I don't give a f***". And in my opinion you're a scumbag if you think that way. We could talk about morality, we could talk about the law and that's all and well too. But it comes down to respect for me.

In January I asked Guy Lafrance if he would paint a Jocelyn Thibault Canadiens replica for me (he is the original painter). He said he no longer paints masks and hasn't for a long time. I did stress that it was for a display collection, not to be used. I personally don't think using other goalie's paintjobs on the ice is neat or cool or whatever, seems kinna pathetic like you're trying to be someone you're not. Anyway he said he wouldn't do it. Then I asked if it would be okay if i were to get someone else to do it. His exact were "I'd prefer you didn't...". That's not exactly a no. But it's definitely not a yes, either.  So, I stopped myself right there and didn't take it any further. I wasn't happy with the answer but I gotta respect it. Sure, someone else will take my money and do the job quietly. But that's just not me. I wouldn't feel right knowing I made a conscious decision to disregard what he said and get his work painted by someone else as I look at that mask. Maybe I have too much respect but I have respect nonetheless.

@ULTIMA what sizing did you go with? What's your height at FTK?

Nice set, mine should arrive this week.

    32+1.

I do not know that measurement at the moment.

I spy a Single T and no outer break...

Might be very similar to mine ?

I like my pads stiff. No break on the outter role ensures that. And the so-called advantages of having more than a single T are theoretical in my opinion.

Cool specs!! I don't need a new set, but I've played around with the customizer a few dozen times.

I agree on the innumerable combination of options. IMO I think they should have say 3 or 4 (maybe 4 is even too high) "pre-builds" the Lefevre staff consider either common combinations or "purposeful combinations." They could even base the combinations on their Pros... Fleury Spec, Luongo Spec, Crawford Spec. From there you can roll as is or fully customize. Not too different from what they do with stock color schemes.

I liken it to (and perhaps an obscure reference) but the ice cream shops where you actually build you own ice cream. The dairy/non-dairy base, flavor combinations, add ins, etc etc etc... gives people too much opportunity to screw it up. Tell me what you guys feel is good, if i want to add a little something I'll ask.

Zero options for customizing gear like back in the early days of the original RBK Premier is lousy but too many options can be just as bad.

For example, offering a pad with just as many external breaks as internals is the ultimate in redundancy. By that point you should be in the E-Flex family pad. That bloody Marty Turco was the one that started all the nonsense. Anyway, you see where I'm going with this.

Mind sharing details on the specs you ordered?

    Don't mind at all.

Pads: 32+1, Recessed foam with removable knee cradle wrap, single adjustable knee strap, HD foam toe arrangement, Pre-curved/single internal break/no outer break, tight fit leg channel with 2 calf straps, shallow leg channel with soft boot, center leg channel is nylon and removable boot strap under heel

Blocker: Senior/regular size palm, binding-less edge, half piece cuff, Sure Grip palm, curved finger protection and centered palm

Palm: Senior size/regular size palm, Game ready,  590/one-piece cuff and thumb, single offset Tee +1 and webbing wrist

While my heart belongs to Lefebvre's gear, they simply offer way too many options (especially on pads) that made the ordering process confusing and somewhat difficult.

G2, G3 and GT have all been the easiest glove to close off the shelf, haven't had a chance to get my greasy paws on a G4 set yet.

So what are you talking about?

I'll repeat, G4 gloves thusfar have been lousy. GT have been acceptable.

Historically Warrior has  been good but not as of late.

Y'all need to get on the Warrior/Brian's bandwagon.

    What's a break in period?

I tried on two different Ritual G4 gloves....Yikes....

Ritual GT Pro is not bad. Otherwise I don't know what you're talking about.

I work at retail; I was told late 2018, but definitely before 2019, so if you like the pads but not the graphic, I recommend you wait a bit.

Also work in retail. Anyway I ordered Premier 2 stuff, Bauer isn't my cup of tea.
