  1. Michel from Protechsport said he saw the NHL Lefevbre mask up close and was impressed with it. I remember reading or hearing somewhere that the NHL goalies wearing CCM masks are wearing the same ones sitting on the shelves in stores. I can't believe 100% of all that to be true.

What's peoples experience with custom orders from Warrior, as far as wait times?

My order for G3 pads went in on November 5th and I'm still waiting.

@ULTIMA you had a custom order that took a while, yeah?

I ordered in mid August and they were delayed by a few weeks. Ended up coming late October.

@DALV1 - I’m very similar. I look at extra gear as an unused asset. I’d rather let it go cheap than collect dust

I held on to all my old Koho gear over the years. As more and more time went on, it just saddened me and I had accepted the brand was dead. It's nice to look at things from the past but after a few moments of admiration, reality sets in and you realize as nice as some of those older pieces are from 1995 or whenever, they simply don't play better than the modern stuff. No sense living in the past.

Why the switch to Sportmask?  Which model did you go with?  Do you play on a team that has habs jerseys or do you just really like the habs?

    so many questions still...

It was random, I was in a store and saw it, put it on and it was just love. I wasn't looking a reason to switch at all, but I liked it so much I just had to have it. It's the Professional Series 3 mask, or exact copy of Jonathan Quick's lid. Been wearing Canadien's gear/jersey/pants etc. since day 1 of men's league. Since there were no restrictions on what goalies can wear, I just stayed with it.

I have no issues answering questions so long as they're not stupid, respectfully.

The cheek area screw on lefebvre/protechsport masks serves two purposes. One is a cage mounting point. The other is to keep the chin sling from rotating. Having a sling mount at four points instead of two (just the harness snaps screws) prevents this from happening.

Yes, you are correct. I am aware of it's purpose. I was simply stating that I personally don't like the clips/screws/posts on the cheek. Otherwise it's great.

The mask that Michel made the mold from would not determine where and how he mounts the cage. The molds are smooth and so it the shell that comes out of it. Hole cutouts would be defined by a trimming jig or be laid out by hand.

I believe he has just chosen to mount the cage in the way he usually does with the Lefebrve shells (temple, cheek, chin). Note how there is no mount points in the forehead. Also, the mount point in the cheek area has never been used in Wright/Itech/Bauer masks (to my knowledge anyways).

Wright made masks and 960/961s always had cages mounted forehead/temple/chin. Old 950s and NVY/NME masks are not mounted at the chin but have a second mount point at the bottom-side.

I'm sure Michel would mount a cage in a different configuration if asked nicely(if it doesn't affect the integrity of the shell)

I cannot prove it so but I do recall there was a brief period when Itech had the clips to mount the cage on the cheek area. It might be coincidental that he does this with his version.

  7. This is gonna greatly affect the smaller mask painters out there.

Furthermore, I was warned by more than one mask painter that these wraps remain solid even after the shell has been cracked and/or compromised. So the paint would still look fine but you wouldn't see the damage underneath unless you saw it from the inside of the mask.

Looks great. But I don't trust it.

    Mediums (34+1)

Thanks - that was actually my very first time playing outside. It was awesome!

If you don't mind me asking, what is your ankle-to-knee measurement for you to be fitting in that size?

@ULTIMA - Interesting about your post. For some reason... I have been drooling over a Sportmask lately. It's not like they are new or anything either!

Truth is I never found their masks to be special. When I was working in hockey, we never ordered in the higher end model masks, just the lower end Ricochet or X8 models and I thought they were pretty crappy. Those Pro series masks were so impressive and it's been very tough to tear me away from Protechsport.

  10. After casually looking at sticks in a local hockey store, I walked by the mask section and at first glace was intrigued by the Pro series of masks by Sportmask. Instantly I was in love with it.

So after being in Protechsport after more than 10 years, I'v decided to make the switch. I don't have pictures at the moment. Mask is bought and already on it's way to the painter. It was a heavy price tag admittedly but I really like it off the shelf and I think I'm really gonna like it on the ice even more.

  11. Historically, Vaughn's had several "lazy" graphics but in the interest of them getting away from the tribal stuff they've been doing for over 10 years, it's still a step in the right direction.

And while I like them overall as a company, four and a half pounds is not something to boast about as "UltraLight" when some are making theirs half that weight.

It's funny, Eye Candy panted the other T Sizzle mask I talked about way back when. I don't think it had a habs theme. I wonder if it was yours and I just saw the WIP

It's T-SWizzle! Get it right! Not gonna tell you again! lol

@ULTIMA If you like it who cares what anyone else thinks... Too often everyone seems to need praise or acceptance from our peers.

Not my cup of tea but there's no disputing the detail and talent of the artist.  Enjoy!

Truth be told is I don't look for approval from other goalies here. Steve Nash deserves more credit than what he receives for his work and I' more than happy with the way it turned out. I do my part to contribute here and I find it upsetting when people take their comments to this new level of mean.

  14. My friends over at Eye Candy are up to their eyeballs in masks and paint and haven't gotten a chance to update their website in a while. Lots of mask painters out there but only a handful or less that can do fine portrait work like them. I'v had close to 10 painters in my lifetime and Eye Candy are at the top of my list so I strongly recommend them for an original mask paint job with great detail. Many already don't agree with the subject matter and you're all entitled to your opinions. I ask that you kindly keep misogynistic and rude comments to yourself please. Sorry for the lighting.
