  1. Us beer league guys better watch out backs (literally). It's only a matter of time before these young guns coming up tries this and scores in a beer league game/shinny with his buddies watching.

Has anyone ever been scored on like this before? It's okay, we don't judge on here.

Unless it's Coop. He may judge you ;)

I've been using Bauer whatever model senior socks for a while now, for the same reason that they have Velcro front and back. Wish I could still find them, but CCM might have to do when mine wear out (only a couple of holes right now).

I used these CCM socks for the first time this morning and they were great. I know it's just socks, but I feel like they did the job well and fit very nicely around my massive KOHO Pro Swiss knee guards with ease. They are built a lot nicer than my knockoff Edge socks I switched to earlier in the season for my team. Looks like I can (finally) kiss my knit socks goodbye!

  3. Not a major purchase by any means, but I picked up these CCM Edge socks recently. Will be using them tomorrow. The old RBK Edge socks only had the velcro tabs on the front part of the sock which I thought was weird, so I never bothered trying them out, but these CCM Edge versions have velcro attachment points on the front and back which is nice.

I have never worn the edge type socks until this season (my beer league team was given a pair - antique gold colour which matches nothing I have) and I love them very much. So much room for knee pads and they fit a lot better than your traditional knit socks I've worn my whole life, so I wanted to buy myself another pair to use for my other skates. I just went with black since it will not show any sweat stains and will "go" with my black jersey I wear for drop-in, etc.

Anyone else wear the Edge type socks? I went with the SR size.

  4. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't really like 3on3 or 4on4. I played in a 3on3 and a 4on4 summer league for a year or two growing up in the offseason and didn't like it. I much prefer structure (or as much as possible when playing beer league) when I play, most of the time at least.

The occasional drop-in session or something is fine and can be fun don't get me wrong, but give me 5 on 5 any day. I guess I'm just too conditional for a certain type of hockey I guess. Maybe I'm too stubborn and need to lighten up, haha. :D

  5. In fairness to the defence and goalie on that one, he pulled it off to perfection and executed the move really quickly. I don't think there's anyway you'd 'expect' him to do what he did there. It came out of nowhere.

Yeah, in hindsight the goalie would have loved to go full stand up on that play, but in the moment he played it as best he could (I thought the goalie's movement was great on that play and got across pretty fast) and still got beat.

  6. If this is going to be a running theme of guys trying the move, I think the NHL does need to step in and ban the lacrosse move. Originally I didn't care, but if more and more players start trying this move, it can look silly when not executed.

You can't have guys around the league trying it all the time (if it gets to that point), so you need to address it now, unfortuntely.

I like the move and appreciate the skill level behind it no doubt, but to me it's looking like a showboating 10pm drop-in scrimmage, not a moment of NHL hockey.

I could be wrong though. Just my personal opinion.

    I don’t disagree.

Of course some clown in the drop in I sometimes attend regularly does that and I had heard he got levelled the last time he did it.

Drop-In hockey has no rules. Animals come out to play sometimes. I'm not surprised that would happen.

Pretty simple to me...the next time Svechnikov, or anyone else known for this irregular move, goes behind the opposing goaltenders' net,  he gets a 'wake up call'.

In the 'old' NHL, he probably would never had tried the lacrosse move out of fear. Or even when he did score with it the first time, he would never want to try it again due to the consequences he would face.

Now? He can do whatever he pleases. Players around the league might hate it and find it disrespectful (I'm sure they respect the talent, but don't like the in-game use of it), but they can't do any thing to him.

Also picked up some new jocks. Replaced an old (and broken) RBK SR Pro and standard Shock Doctor cup.

The CCM GPro is a true double cup... oversized cup up front with standard size behind it. Super comfy. The other is a standard CCM Pro cup... which is a carryover from the Jofa years. Equally comfy and has the added benefit of some additional pelvic coverage as the cup and pelvic piece are a single molded & padded piece.

I've never seen the true double cup CCM GPro before. Nice.

If the orange/ blue graphics above are an option I don’t see any issues with the graphics.

At the end of the day if the pads are better than the Premiers ( Which my son wears ) I wouldn’t have a problem considering these. Quality should be the same as the current CCM pads .  What about the Eflex pads - will they be changed if the Lefebvre relationship is over ?

That's a good point. Not really sure about that one.

Skaters should not skate up ice with the puck on their blade in the air off the ice:  yes or no?

They shouldn't, but what player in their right mind would actually try this on a regular basis to carry the puck up the ice? Their teammates and coach would no doubt give them a talking to about this. It would look silly and be a very inefficient way to move the puck in a game.

I don't think a rule needs to be implemented over something that technically "could" happen when it would be very, very unlikely to actually happen (consistantly) in a real game, especially at the professional level on an ongoing, consistant basis.

  12. I don't think it should be banned.

If the player has the skill to pull it off, then it's fair game as far as I'm concerned. Great goal.

A goal like this doesn't happen everyday, so I don't think it's worth making a big deal out of it right now. If it starts happening a lot more often, then maybe, but not right now.

How do you only sharpen your skates 4 times a year?!?!

Not sure, it's just the way I've always been doing it. For those wondering, I sharpen my skates at 5/8. Anything above that I feel grips too much and is too sharp for me.

Granted, this sharpening schedule was on my old Bauer Supreme 1000 skates that I've been using for the past 10+ years. I just upgraded to a True 2PC skate w/Step Steel, so who knows if I can keep my minimal sharpening schedule going; I have only sharpened them once (still at 5/8, wasn't sure if a new hollow was needed for these skates but it's good so far) when I first received the skates and baked them. I think I will be able to since I'm 5 skates into my sharpening and the blades still feel great.

Not sure if this makes any difference, but I'm a tiny 26 y/o goalie (5ft5 - 120lbs) so I feel like my skate blades don't take as much of a beating as say a bigger goalie might when transfering weight or slamming into the posts, etc. When I feel my blades start to go, I just treat it with a skate stone and a magic stick once a week to keep the edge.

It's not perfect, but it works for me. I sharpen them once before my winter and summer seasons (sharpenings 1-2 on the year). I might do another sharpening during each season (sharpenings 3 and 4 on the year), but I'm usually good with one.

Yeah I know it's weird, but I'm still able to grab my edge and play the way I like which is a very modern, technically sound (I hope) positional game.

  14. Tech wise, I'm sure this will make CCM "catch up" more to everyone else on the market no doubt, especially Bauer, but I'm not digging these graphics at all. I'm sure with different colourways some sets will pull it off, but not feelin' it personally.

Though it's only CCM's first instalment of the AXIS line, so I'm sure they will improve with every new release and these growing pains are to be expected. I'm hoping the durability doesn't suffer and CCM was known for that in previous lines. It will be interesting to see how these perform on the ice.

My wife came to an average game that we lost in a shootout. Of course she missed my glove save rob of the other team's captain on a break away - which caused him to smash his stick and swear in frustration. Not much in what she took, but I grabbed this still from a short video.

...you can tell it's an "ACTION" shot because the dude in orange is blurred!

Your stance/gear look great here! And congrats on the big glove save in that game.

Went out to a stick and puck today with the girlfriend at Bowling Green State University on their mini-rink. Since it was on a Monday at noon we were the only ones there, which we preferred. Broke out my old bucky set a small manufacturer Jeff Salvi out of Haverhill, MA made for me back in 2007. Always used SnoSeal on this set and it kept it in great condition. Had a good time.

That stick is great, too. It's sure seen a lot of rubber!
