  1. Thank you for putting this together. And the set looks great.

One thing we were discussing in the other thread was the toe bridge. Your table seems to indicate the you need to go Pro Custom to center the toe attachment, but the other thread seems have evidence that the stock and retail options for the toe bridge are a 4-hole HD foam toe bridge. If that's the case, and based on pictures, wouldn't you be able to center the toe attachment by using the center two hole, and lace it offset by using two of the other three holes?

Who is taking these high quality over cropped photos? Bauer's web designer needs to be fired.

Considering these pages aren't even linked on the main site and they're not officially released, I think we can be sure those pages aren't ready for public view yet.

  3. I don't think you should get too hung up on the concept of "a certain kind of pad means I play a certain kind of way". I have issues with trying to define what a certain style of play actually means, because at the end of the day, we should be concentrating on what techniques work for us as individuals. Those techniques and our preferences might then dictate our equipment choices...and most definitely not the other way around.

Please don't take offense when I say this because I don't mean any disrespect, but I'm kind of getting the vibe that these might be your first pair of pads and you might be playing goalie for the first time. If that's the case, I advise you to just focus on the fundamentals. Stay square to the puck, keep your eyes open, and practice good skating movement fundamentals. As you learn and play more, you'll be able to make better choice about your technique. This experience in turn, will also help guide you through your next equipment choices.

Really hoping more details start coming out about these soon. I’m torn between ordering a set of the current offerings or waiting until these come out.

I don't see any reason you shouldn't just wait for the new line. I think Bauer has built a solid reputation for itself by delivering a better pad each generation than the generation before it. I don't think you'll find the new line takes any steps back.

  5. The closure in your first picture looks pretty on par with my 2x Pro from two years ago. Gap and everything. I can't say I've ever experienced the puck rolling out on me, I don't see that happening if you're catching in the pocket every time.

Best break in advice I've heard for a stock glove came from Mike McKenna: tie your glove up with skate lace the way that you want to break it in, tie it all to a stick, and then hold the glove over a pot of boiling water for a little while. I'm not a materials science expert but I believe this may eliminate any shrinking that occurs from water-logged foam that dries out using the keeps33 method.

If you're really truly desperate, I would send it to Dennis at FactoryMad. Once of the issue that can affect closure is the lacing can be too tight causing it not to close all the way. Dennis will re-lace the entire glove, re-lace the pocket, and a couple of other things that will, not exaggerating, improve closure by 100%. I send all of my gloves to him. If you're allowed to in your league, you can allow him to add a floating tee pocket which turns your pocket into a black hole for pucks. Be sure to let him know if this is not allowed in your league. At the very least he can replace the pocket with skate lace.

  6. Just wanted to follow up for anyone that reads this in the future. My PT has advised against me wearing a back brace while playing. Based on her experience, it might cause more harm than good because it would eliminate having to engage my core muscles which might cause them to become underdeveloped.

That being said, my Return to Play program includes fundamental strength exercises such as squat and deadlift in which we're trying to bring the strength between my core and my limbs into better balance. Idea being that we "overbuild" my core such that I can stabilize my spine during play.

    Appreciate everyone's input!

I feel like you would probably be totally fine wearing something like that.

I think so too. If we consider that no matter which save selection you're using, we're told to keep our back straight, this would even have the side effect of keeping me taller in my stance/butterfly.

  8. For the second time in less than two years, I have herniated my L4/L5 disc. This time, it wasn't due to hockey, but I was forced to play in the playoffs because my team wouldn't have a goalie otherwise.

I'm seeing a spine doctor, doing the requisite PT, and even getting some epidural injections to help my recovery.

My question for you guys is do you have any experience with using a back brace while you play? I can't go through this injury again and I want to protect myself when I am fully recovered and back on the ice.

  9. Bauer does allow for color flexibility with their DigiPrint option. I had a custom shade of green made for my HL set. You might try asking your Bauer retailer. It helps if you go in with a specific pantone color in mind so you can give them the CMYK code.

There was a picture of the new 3s goalie stick online through Instagram, one of the pro goalie posted it. 3s gear wise I haven't heard or seen anything.  Possibility 3s gear could be the level below the ultra sonic line the same way the 2x pro line, has the straight 2x line below it.

That's a big design improvement on the Lundy loop.

They also have the non-Pro customizer, if you want senior-level Bauer pads that don't look like crap. Though they'll charge you through the nose for it, and you'll probably end up spending as much as you would for custom Pro pads from another manufacturer.

Only if you're willing to shell out a bunch of extra cash. Over 3K USD for a set of Vapor 2X Pro with custom graphics (over $4300 CAD right now). I could get a custom set of Warrior gear and save a thousand bucks. Custom sets from Mckenney and Passau are ~$2500 CAD.

And honestly? I have serious doubts about the durability of Bauer gear these days. Four grand just to get a custom graphic on some pads that will probably last me half as long as a set from Warrior, Mckenney, or Passau? Not a chance.

Yo, if you're just here to throw shade at Bauer, feel free to not come back to this thread. Never understand why people feel the compulsion to just come in some where and s*** in everyone's cereal just because they like one multi-million dollar corporation more than another.

I happen to think Warrior's look like big Fisher Price toys for children, but I don't go in the Warrior threads and start trashing other people choices for no good reason. Go on enjoy yourself somewhere else instead of coming here to get riled up on purpose.

Gotcha, I thought you were pointing out something a lot smaller.  Yeah that would go in line with my thinking on what happens when any, formerly small/separate, piece of the knee stack fails or needs replacing.

It almost looks like there's an extra piece of jenpro stitched to the edge of the knee block and the elastic strap is attached to that instead of internal to the knee block?  Like there's a loop in the elastic strap, you can kind of see what looks like an extra line of stitching in the strap.  It still doesn't look adjustable, but the build of the tabs on this set seems like maybe TGN's set has some non-retail versions of things, and maybe there will be an adjustable version at retail?

I've always wanted that main calf wrap strap to be adjustable too, but doesn't look like it is either.

I've never felt the need to adjust the outer calf strap. All I need it is to hold everything from flopping around. In fact I'd rather have it lose so that the sliding surface on the calfwrap stays nice and flat on the ice.

  13. 43 minutes ago, Mroy31 said:

Which tab do you mean?  My understanding so far is that the block is all one piece and part of the actual pad, so the grippy/padded landing pad is sewn together with the rest of the material that covers the block.  But that's basically built off of observing and assuming based on posts like these.

That made me wonder though if the knee block is literally the same piece as the rest of the pad, or if it's like an insert into the pad.  Not necessarily for future swaps of the block, but just for things like defects and repairs.  I dunno, we'll find out soon enough :)

Look at where the knee lock strap attaches to the calf wing. You'll see it's a Jenpro tab with Bauer embossed. On the 2x Pro, this area is just Nylon with no Emboss.

On previous version of the Od1n pads (and Bauer's before that), the landing pad was velcro'd to the block. This meant you could pull off the velcro and adjust the inner attachment point of the knee strap. This meant you'd could fine tune the length of the strap (and ultimately it's tightness). If it's true that the landing pad is sewn to the block, then that adjustment is now gone. Meaning you only have the knee strap that came with it, with no adjustability, or replacement when the elastic starts to bacon.

The secretive descriptions I've seen so far of the pad in general mentioned updated strapping.  This may very well just be the tune fit option, but still curious overall since the tab at least isn't stock tune fit.  I noticed the same thing @Deltadre pointed out too, and was wondering if it's a pro-custom (or whatever that program is called) option now, or another part of some new CRS or evolved TuneFit strapping system.

It's so similar, I can't conceive of any way this is NOT TuneFit. You'll notice the knee lock is slightly different as well (leather tab has been added. Curiously, I wonder how you're able to adjust or replace the knee lock (I can't tell if the landing bad is sewn or velcroe'd to the block).

it stretched a bit but nothing I couldnt pretty easily fix after I removed them.  My kenesky strap was elastic though so it probably didnt put as much pressure on it as the nylon one would have.

I have the Nylon. Funny thing is on my 1X, it never stretched. Very frustrating. BTW you have almost the exact same colors as I do (I have black top spears).

would be awesome if a professor strap was an option.  I added the Kenesky one to my 2X pads and it made a huge difference.  Before that I was slipping off the knee stack once or twice a game.

This is off topic, but have you had any issues with the assembly lace on your 2x stretching when using the Kenesky strap? The lace on my first set of 2x Pros stretched about 3 inches so I kept having to readjust my kenesky straps. I've been afraid to put them back on my second set.

The huge piece of velcro on the calf wrap looks like a good idea, but I don't like that they don't give an option to wrap the knee-cradle to the opposite side (ie: you have to connect the knee cradle to the calf-wrap). I know that's the trend, but still, wouldn't hurt to give the option...

You can expect that the UltraSonic will have the same knee wing options that the 2x has had for the past year. Those are:

    1. Removable/adjustable knee wing

    2. No knee wing

Looks like TGN has order no knee wing. If you want to strap to the knee wing, you will have that option

I want to see what this different strapping is. Looks closer to tune fit, but can only see that slider tab.

TuneFit was a pro option for 2s so this may be a retail option now that TGN has chosen.

my 2x set has some durability issues as well. Nothing compared to the 1s type stuff but it is more than fair to say Bauer has more issues than some other brands overall.

Do you have any statics or metrics to say this? Or do you just hold them under a finer microscope than other brands? Look up what "confirmation bias" is.

For sure!  Lots of people buy into the hype though.  To me, it seems like these new pads are becoming cheaper (both in materials and looks).  Yet the price tag is super high.  The companies and gear influencers argue "the cost of R&D, etc."  The reality is, these companies have found a way to manufacture a super inexpensive pad and market it as high end/ quality.

That's really just speculation on your part though, isn't it? We don't really know how much R&D went into these things, what the tooling costs were for all three generations, and what the margin is on these pads.
