Surprised no one has mentioned RYR Sports. Still pricey but not like the big guys. Give 'em a try!

Never heard of them before now. Goes to show the importance of advertising. Thanks

I remember them from the GSBB days.  They've been around a while, didn't know they were still around.  They always looked like they were very protective.

  2. My AllBlackHockeySticks / HockeyStickMan blackout sticks have been beasts durability wise.  Haven't broken one or had any major chips in them.  They go dead and loose their pop well before they would break in my experience.  But even then I get a solid year or 18 months before they go flat.  For the price and their weight and durability, they are very hard to beat for me.  Before these I used custom CCM Premier 1 and was very very happy with them as well.  But with the price point and performance of the blackout sticks it would be hard for me to go back.

I remember in the early 2000's the unicorn chest protector from RBK, the pro spec p1 which was based off the previous Koho 590 unit. They couldn't be ordered from a store, the only way was pro returns from the various pro/semi pro and Jr hockey leagues ( same now as the CCM pro unit) . Because of the new rules with smaller chest protectors coming out they changed the arms on them. I had an actual new Koho 590 pro spec, same as the p1  pro spec at the time that came from Jason Labarbara ( same colors as below but with the RBK  sized arms) . On the old GSBB I was getting PM's with crazy offers for it because no one had ever seen a pro spec Koho unit. Later on a few years after the craziness of the unit, Roddy at The Goalie Crease worked with Reebok and came out with a retail p1 pro spec unit ( last picture), and that ended the whole unicorn label with unit.

And there were 2 different versions of the retail 590; a Made In Canada and a Made in China.  The Chinese one didnt have the label on the left elbow floater was the easiest way to tell.  There was a stark contrast in protection and build quality between the 2.  The Canadian one was a tank, the Chinese one was akin to a senior level but asking a pro level price.  Retailers were getting both toward the end of the cycle so it was a crap shoot which one you would get at order.

The Goalie Crease units were absolute tanks.

  4. Been playing around with my X4 Pro+.  Haven't taken it on the ice yet, still trying to get a good feel for it especially the arms.  I think one thing that's been hard to adjust to is the hard elbow caps of the Warrior to the "soft" elbow caps on my old Passau.

Has anyone done any different strap adjusting on the arms to make it feel better?  One thing that seems to make it feel better to me is shortening/tightening the elastic strap up by the armpit that helps pull the entire front of the arm up more.  Need to try and find a good solution that would hold up without cutting into the straps until I can get it dialed in.

Finally, I chose PRO chest, due to its smaller size...  Except for a mask and skates, everything else will be Warrior this season.

    To be delivered soon.

    Thanx for your help, guys.

Good choice. I've been using the Pro for a few months now and despite it being the smaller of the two, it's a massive C/A.

Curious to hear your guys experience with the Pro after some time.  I ordered the Pro+ and am looking forward to trying it.

Any word on prices? Another user posted in November 2022 that it was $1,000 CAD for a full Kevlar mask, but his website hasn't been updated with that number...

Full fiberglass price I was given was $450 CAD.  My current is a full Kevlar and was looking for a back-up.

Try m.doganieri AT outlook DOT fr

He emailed me just yesterday.  Maybe tell him his Gmail doesn't seem to be working as it seems another member here had problems with the Gmail address too.

Thanks.  I had that address from an older communication with him, as well as a Bell address from waaayyyy back.  I'll try that.

So I guess order an SP Apparel jersey if you want the closest thing you can get to the real deal.

Retail SP jerseys are good quality, but still not the same as the authentic on-ice ones.

  9. The RBK/CCM/Adidas XL size hockey socks fit over most knee pads.  When I used Factory Mad knee pads, I bumped up to a XL+ size due to the extra bulk.

To me it seems the retail socks fit a touch smaller than the pro stock socks and are slightly less stretchy.  But not a huge enough difference to size up.

This new holder looks like it won’t be compatible with hand sharpeners

I obviously can't say for sure from just this picture but I think the holder will still fit on the jigs my store has. (All my company's stores use blackstone) It might have to be wiggled a bit but it may work. If not, all steel will have to be removed like the goalie skates. Annoying? Absolutely, however there is actually less room for error when you do the steel by itself because the weight of the skate can't pull the bottom edge into the wheel more.

According to SSU on Facebook, someone said these would fit in a holder, they were able to try on a demo (this?) pair.  Not sure which holder they used though.

My Maltese is bang on in my opinion. Nice neck height, good bib coverage and no elastic give at the back, stays in place the whole game. The velcro needs replacing but that's it. It saved me a couple times.

If anything, a full kevlar coverage would make it complete. Otherwise, I've been using it for 10 years and am not too willing to let it go.

I think the closest model is the Roughneck. Too bad Phil couldn't keep Maltese going.

100%.  My old Maltese is still going strong.  The best ones that seem to last the longest are the full gel ones where you had to call Phil to order and spent an hour + on the phone with him.

I see some of the other foam/gel type neckguards for sale with little use that have fabric that looks more worn than my Maltese.  My only worry is when (if ever) the material on my Maltese gets too worn is getting it reskined.  I wonder if Sara @ PAW or someone of the same ilk could do it.

FWIW, Hockeytron has some Sherwood sticks on BOGO free right now, code is BOGOSS

Was this a limited time code?  I don't remember seeing an email blast with this code.
