That'll be Phil Kessel's nickname after he's taken in the expansion draft.

Oh and @Dumpy at risk seeming pedantic, Kraken is mid-grade, overly sweet rum, not vodka.  Although I will admit, it's pretty damn tasty for lower end stuff.   Back in my bartending days I used to make a shot I called "Smokin' Krak" by topping Kraken with 151 and lighting it on fire.  Tasted like a toasted marshmallow!

By the time I drink Kraken, im so fucked up i dont know the difference as Shots are getting called and I am along for the ride. Dont try to keep pace with an englishman while drinking youll live to regret it.

Well Seattle is indeed a maritime, water, oceanic city.  We have ships and seaplanes and lochs all over the place.  It's a water-centric city.  Plus, there is a massive Scandinavian culture, heritage, and population of immigrants.  Our major shipping neighborhood, Ballard, is covered in Scandinavian flags.  There is an undoubted Scandinavian connection here (I happen to speak Swedish too, so that's fun).

By the way @Dumpy, it's cool you live in or near St. Louis and are a Blues fan.  They are a unique team if you look at how all team names stack up as words.....do they end in 's' or not, singular vs. plural, etc.  I'm pretty sure the Blues are the only team that saying the name in the singular doesn't work.

So, if a reporter says to a player "How has your time been so far since you've joined the Blues?" and the player says "It's great so far.  Being a Blue has been a great privilege.....yadda yadda."

That's a unique thing for them.

There are a few where the plural and singular are the same: Avalanche, Lightning, Kraken, Wild   <----also the 4 teams not ending in 's'.

But then theres the Leafs. Plural is supposed to be Leaves.

The original interviews with people on the street in St. Louis about the name was funny. Some didn’t even think about it being named after one of the most recorded songs by WC Handey “the St. Louis Blues”

we nearly lost our team 35 plus years ago. I can’t imagine a world without hockey and am truly happy for you having a team of your own.

My buddy here is irate.  He's hates the name, the colors, the jersey, and the logo.  After pressing him, he doesn't like that the logo itself is not the name,  so not a Kraken. And, even if it were, there are no Kraken in Puget Sound so it's stupid anyway.

In his mind, the City Thing format should mean your logo is the Thing AND there must be the Things in your City.

By my count, 17/32 meet this requirement.

Meh, doesn't bother me.  I think conceptually our logo resembles Philadelphia or New Jersey most. Plus, our logo honors the Metropolitan's S, so that's a win.

I love it all so far for our new team.

When the blues came to StLouis, people thought the name was dumb. You have a great chance to be a good expansion team. Congrats even though i dont know what the hell a kracken is.

Ever heard "asshole" by Dennis Leary? Just show up to the games with a Diesel truck and litter your KFC packing outside the arena on the walk in. Climate Change Area will take notice.

Which Jofa you going? I've been really toying with the idea of trying to get an Irbe combo but would probably have to get the throat guard custom done.

Hrivnak was a gear god. Even his Caps gear looked dynamite on the Jets. He always did gear colors perfect. Even his setup with the Blues was legendary. The use of red on the gloves was a great touch.

I grew up in st louis and saw him in Fishers sporting goods in Florrisaint MO a few times. Fishers was the Blues sporting good store until the late 90s great guy.

...and so it begins. My buddies call my garage the goalie gear museum.

    They're jealous.

They should be. Im even gonna use the stuff and see if I like it and if I do Kenesky will make me a pair of pads and gloves so I dont ruin my pristine examples. Might even have olympia composites make me a Jofa helmet for a combo not certain I wanna protect my head with 30 year old plastic.

Not surprised with the name.  Love the S logo, very subtle but gets the point across perfectly.  The anchor logo is a great touch as well with the needle in there.  I really like the jerseys and colors too.  "Boundless blue" though?  Kind of a dumb name in my opinion, but, the color is nice and that is what matters.

Thats most likely the pantone name after the number and will not match any other blue. Said navy and meant blue lol

Both of these are good points and should be added to my list of "not gripes".   I"m just going to be cheesed off for a while because they didn't go with "Totems" for the name.  I'm a huge fan of totem pole art and really thought there would be a lot that could be done with a color scheme  and logo with that name.  I recognize there were some downsides too that name but I feel like it could have been done respectfully and well.

Unfortunately totems could be perceived as some sort of racial slur and just could have gone downhill quickly its like people cant wait to get offended. Not everyone is out to marginalize minoroties sometimes it is good inclusive history. Ill never understand these getting offended hobbyists.

At this stage I have forced myself to play angles and be aggressive in doing so.  My defence know that they have to guard the free man and be prepared for a rebound due to my attacking nature.

Many years ago I was filling in for a team and recognized one of the defensemen as a former Junior A goaltender, Ian Young of the Oshawa Generals (google him). He was a successful businessman and did some goalie coaching at the time for the NY Islanders, I think. Naturally I had to ask for one tidbit of advice.

He said to be sure to skate out to meet the shooter but also remember to keep your feet moving and skate backwards if the shooter was attempting a deke. DON'T GET CAUGHT FLATFOOTED!  Keep your feet light on the ice and moving with the play.

It seems so basic now (35 years later) but having always been a stand up style player I quickly adapted.  At my full height of 5'7" I probably wouldn't have been allowed to progress as a goaltender in today's butterfly world.  That may have been a mixed blessing when I hear of young players requiring hip surgeries of various types. No way I would have been this competitive had my still developing body been channelled to that style of play.

    DISCLAIMER

This is free advice from a non professional with little coaching along the way............... who is still playing on a regular basis* and having as much fun as a 70 year old is entitled to.

    *COVID-19 interruption acknowledged.

I appreciate that. Playing angles is something I gotta learn. I get zinged on my height as I am 5’8” but get pinged down low. Id make you feel great about your playing cause I suck. Thank you kindly.

@Dumpy , I'll be honest, the only book I read was Jacques Plante's book.  And the only video I watched was Andy Moog's....  through the years I did observe the styles of Moog, Hextall, Kirk Mclean to pick up on certain moves in situations.
I am NOT the modern butterfly AT all... if you watch old youtube videos of Stephane Fiset, that is very close to my style.
Sorry I'm not much help as I am mostly self taught.

Oh, I also read Vic Lemire's "Goaltenders Are Not Targets"

So watch youtube and look up old goalies check thank you kindly

  13. @Wonder35  @Naz  yall seem to know old skool goalering. I am looking for technique and resources as I am older but didn’t start playing til I was 45. I do butterfly but my hips and knees aint what they used to be and too much ibuprofen makes your liver bad I already drink a case of beer a week. What books do I need to buy for technique? Thank you.
