  1. With regards to the three incidents posted here. A slight embellishment by Shesterkin in my opinion, a blatant run at Raanta and an unfortunate ‘part of the job’ moment for Keumper.

But, what will be the backlash for said incidents from the teams and the league? Let’s watch!

New twigs came in today.  My V1s were pretty beat up and noodley so it was time.  A good gear refresh in between seasons right now.  Sticks were the only thing I needed to update so I'll be set for a while. I'm pretty excited about the shiny silver bits, looks sharp.  I opted away from the red ones.  I like more neutral stick colors and definitely did not need more red in my setup, haha.

25”, I approve! Curious, what’s your height? I’m 6’2” and always preferred a smaller paddle as I hunkered down quite a bit. Had a 27” Koho for a bit that felt massive.

Well one team is the Bruins so by default you must despise them.

The second knocked you out of winning a championship.

Gotta up those levels of vitriol buds.

Oh believe me, the disdain runs deep! Especially for steak and kidney and rust bucket. Could care less for the canes, but as you so rightly said, it’s the Bruins, default hate! 😂

Hmm, two aging teams who are having difficulty scoring get frustrated and take runs at goalies?

That doesn't sound like Boston or Pittsburgh at all.

I’m not for either team to win their respective series, but it’s actions like that which makes me want them to lose all the more!

He’s also EBUG with the ECHL Allen Americans and practices frequently with both them and the Stars. Unfortunately due to some medical issues he was unable to make it pro. Once again, being at the game neither Gibson or Stolarz looked truly injured.

And like all English players, moved to North America at a young age and changes citizenship! Byron Dafoe comes to mind. One day I’ll see an English player get drafted and stick it in the training camp. But regardless, I love seeing EBUG’s in any scenario. Good for him!

  6. When I got my set many moons ago, I wanted teal nylon to match the jenpro. No retailer had it anywhere, I played with the idea of Kelly green or black, but it did not look right at all. Had to settle with white and I despise white on pads, where avoidable.

So I can understand your mates frustration with the clashing of greens!

Side note; I dig his set, I see very little white! Yay!

  7. I must of been too old skool for my own good. I wore nothing but deep heat spray, much to the dismay of whoever was next to me in the locker room. Occupational hazard. 😛

Bare in mind, I’d definitely wear knee pads if I’d ever come out of retirement. Some of the pads here look like puffy clouds for the softest of landings!

For sure, I get you.  This is all lighthearted banter.

I'm not sold on buying the new Bauer stuff, but I would kill for a demo set to mess around with for an hour or so or use in a pick up game. I think the gloves would be pretty meh in terms of performance enhancement but I think after getting over how foreign they feel to me as a lifelong Vaughn goalie the pads would pretty easily stand out as a performance booster.  My current pads were ordered "extra stiff" and I'm just now, a year later, starting to flirt with the idea of stiffer pads, like Bauers.

I had Sher-Wood skinned TPS R10’s with a single internal break above the knee, 36+2. Stiff didn’t even come close, I regretted them after a while, but I made them work in the end!

As we’re all saying, some goalies play with what they can and get used to it. Others have the luxury of trying out different makers and setups etc.

And then there’s the ones who make unfortunate mistakes with their gear, but learn to play with it anyway! 🙃

Magnus Hellberg signed with Detroit, and his Brian's set is beautiful 😍 If I recall correctly, this was a concept done by Brennan Rudd.

Nice to see a goalie take advantage of Brian’s customised services! Last person I remember doing such things was Aaron Dell. I’m not a red wings fan on any level, but those are awesome!

    God, I felt this

Went to an Anaheim/Columbus game a few years ago.  Delayed penalty on the Ducks, CBJ pulls their goalie.  Ducks touch up and shoot in the empty net out of frustration.  Lower bowl erupted as if the goal actually counted

I skated with this man a few years ago, he's a genuinely nice dude and he still has roots in SoCal (I think he said his wife is from here and she has family still in the area?).  He actually had a few offers to stay in North America (didn't say if they were in the NHL or lower).  Crazy how big and fast these guys are in real life.  Goes to show how hockey doesn't really televise well.  Game looks slower on TV than it does in real life - but for some reason they seem even faster when you're on the same ice surface

That’s cool, I remember him in the AHL, but unfortunately Cologne got swept by Berlin, so Pogge’s done for the season! At least he can enjoy the sun now!

As for the frustrated empty net goal? They probably thought it was a touchdown….

In Europe, hockey is less "commercialized" and you get more true fans at the games (altho less of them) compared to NHL. I've been to quite a few NHL games and seen many people in the stands who barely know anything about the game or the team. For them going to a game is just going out, or something to do, etc.

The Swedish league is really good quality too, best in Europe IMO. I was watching some games here and there this season, until Russia attacked Ukraine, then I lost half my channels (I had a Ukrainian satellite TV package). So now I'm just watching the Swiss league again, which is OK, but nowhere near the Swedes. The Ukranian league was fun to watch too because it was about the level I used to play, about Swiss 3.Liga or so, and hardly any fans, LOL.

Good stuff. I’m also watching the DEL too, not on level with the swedes quite. But the passion is equally there. And hey Ho, Justin Pogge is my teams goalie! That made me laugh, he’s doing good tho!

  12. I loved Irbe, as if I haven’t mentioned it here before, big Sharks fan. He’s probably my number 2 all time. I’m hoping you have some lunging, sprawling poke checks channelling him!? 🤣
