I have found Sweat-X to be very effective.  My post-game ritual is to spray everything and either set in front of a fan, or in the case of the glove/blocker, those get a shot of spray and then go on the Peet boot dryer.  I only use my goalie gear maybe once a month typically, and have found it to hold up well after treatment, never a wave of stink when I open the bag.

I did play weekly for a while, and for the last half of that session, I was out of my usual spray.  Used some other that was available retail at my local Pure Hockey store.  But that never really got the post-game smell knocked down.  I was surprised that there was as much difference in performance from over-the-counter sprays.  Smell subsided once I got back to using the Sweat-X.

I have never tried any home-brew style sprays for comparison however.

Where do you get Sweat-X?  Your current method is working for you so this might be moot, but, may I make a suggestion?  Dry your gear as you are currently doing but spray the gear once it is already done with your drying process.  I found that to be a bit more effective since you're not rushing the drying process of your spray.  Letting it sit and dry at its own rate lets it soak deeper into your gear.

I am also a Handy Andy de-stink user, and was getting ready to send him a note to buy another batch.  This isn't good news.  I started supplementing the De-stink with Clear Gear spray, and it works well.  My helmet and gloves get De-stink and the rest gets Clear Gear.  cleargear.com

I'll also email Andy and see if ordering 10 bottles would help encourage him to mix up another batch :)

Yes!  Message him and see what he says.  You're getting 10, I was going to order 5 or 6.  Maybe he'll go for it?  He did tell me that he has been extremely busy with other stuff so it might end up being for naught but we can hope!

  3. I've been using GSBB user HandyAndy's homemade spray concoction for quite a long time now.  It is essential oil based, works very well at killing the smell of my gear and doesn't leave behind a residue.  He just informed me that he is currently out of stock and unsure if he will be making more anytime soon.  I am in a bit of a panic here.

I've done the water and alcohol mixture prior to using Andy's stuff and it doesn't work anywhere near as well.  I was also informed that the alcohol can dry out the materials over time and advised not to use it anymore.

I want something that smells good but isn't too strong.  I want something that doesn't leave behind a residue, especially in gloves.  What do you all use?

Quick, easy little mod today for less than $1.  I had to buy a new cage for my helmet after a shot to the face dented one of the bars.  I noticed it scatched the paint on the forehead just a bit from the impact.

You can see the scratch to the right of the vertical bar here

To the left of that bar is the mod I did today, installing vinyl tube wraps to the cage at a few points on the forehead and the chin, like how a lot of Bauer helmets come stock.  This is a great addition to a cage to help protect paint jobs.

This was super easy and quick and it cost me $.89.

Here is the size tube I used which works best for helmet cages

Minor little surgery down the center to open it up

Then just cut 6 pieces to wrap on the cage, 2 pieces on each side of center up top and 1 piece on each side of center at the bottom

I put these on now without taking the cage off since this is the bent one, so some were more difficult to get on than others. Obviously these should be wrapped from the back so the slit is not behind the cage enabling them to easily come off.  When the new cage comes in I'll install the wraps before putting the cage on the helmet so I'll be able to get them on tighter and a bit more cleanly.

As a bonus, this vinyl tubing is perfect for dangler dampening on the chin.  I haven't put these on this helmet yet because I haven't yet been able to bring myself to putting super glue on this paint job.....it's still too new and exciting for me.

Thank you, you just reminded me I need to order a new cage for my Pro's Choice.

Why are the female play by play announcers so screechy? Their voices go right through me. I know the vocal pitch goes up when a person is excited, but it sounds like kittens being tortured when Leah Hextall announces a goal. She’s brutal.

I prefer than over the monotone "I have no clue what to say" excuse of a broadcaster that is AJ Mleczko .

Hey man, I still got my BDU's in the closet, if you wanna suit up and go over there... nah, as much as I'd like to, I got my family depending on me over here... but there are alot of volunteers going... I read some top Canadian sniper just went there today. I think the "foreign legion" is up to 16,000, plus another 150k Ukrainians living abroad who returned to fight.

I still have a few sets of both my Marine desert cammies and green cammies.  Not sure I would be able to fit into the blouses very well anymore though lol.

Stick prices are almost at the same level as the housing market in Toronto - it's detached from reality. I need really good justification to process the fact that high end sticks are around the same retail price as a catch glove.

Especially since that stick is going to snap eventually

No paint marks or visual cues anywhere anymore for me since I started tapping off on both sides constantly.  I find my playing consistent between at least 3 different rinks.

I too stay on the goal line in the center of the net and tap the posts with my stick and glove before moving to address the puck. I can’t say I think about the crease or rink landmarks much at least not consciously.

Same.  I always stay on my goal line center crease when play isn't in my zone.  I always tap off the posts as play is coming at me.  Constantly checking again as I back in closer.

  9. Stupid Chinada and their dumb restrictions.  Your motherland thinks nothing of Covid anymore.  Ya'll need to get the fuck with the times.  Her Majesty is disappointed in you dumb colonists.

I think the molding heat is around 180-185 degrees F. Not that I ever baked skates in my kitchen stove...

All the hand warmers I ever measured with the laser thermometer are between 120-130 degrees F.

I put them on top of my toes just in case.  Didn't even really feel them.

I didn't watch any of it except the introductions for the players for the game at 3 pm.

I'd say 3/4 of the players were 1st time all stars. My kids and I knew very few of them. No Crosby or Ovechkin?

Also with 150 teams there are maybe one player per team making the all star thing.

Ovi "failed a covid test" a day or two prior to the festivities.

I play outdoors every Sunday from November to March. My challenges are:

    1) my toes getting cold no matter if I use foot warmers or not, especially is the temps are below 20F

    2) nose runs like a freaking faucet

    3) my hands also freeze

The toque is a nice touch. I may do that, even if there is no function.

We had pretty decent conditions.  It was around 20*.  Very light breeze.  I wore my normal get up but added to warmers in my skates and I wore a balaclava under my mask.  I probably could have done without that and been fine.  Even my feet were fine.  I didn't even really notice the warmers.
