Ullmark routes his skate lace toe ties behind the back of his heel and then tapes it down.  Interesting

I do that as well, actually. But I don't tape it, I just rely on the tension of the lace.

Is it OK if the action picture is from 1995?

That was my favorite set prior the profly box pads :

    Ferland Victory pads
    Koho Revolution gloves
    CCM Supra pants
Brian's C/A with lots of modifications
    Cooper kneepads
    Bauer skates
Protechsport original mask with Hextal paintjob.

Those Supra pants were awesome, including the name, "Supra".

Wonder if they would have helped him get to that puck a little quicker Saturday night.....

    Probably not.

Don't tell your boys that, you may see a whole different set of rubbers.

I was just waiting for this kind of response. I teed that one up nicely 😂

This quote is pretty applicable to even us beer leaguers:

Games where guys have no problem just constantly wiring pucks at me are the easiest games. Not only do you get to feel the puck more and get more confidence under your feet, but you also start to get into their heads.

The games where the team is always looking for Grade A/B chances instead of just pucks at net are always tougher.

This is exactly correct. And I think forwards know that now and purposely aren't giving goalies the luxury of settling into a game and making easy saves. It also makes the games a little less fun... obviously I'm there for the beer afterwards but I'd also like to see some rubber.

Did you have some abrasive material over the puck you were throwing the glove with? That binding looks just like some sanding paper was used to grind it.

But good that you got the issue "fixed" with CCM, it's not always been the easiest thing to get done what I've heard/read.

Nope, just a regular white training puck so I didn't get a tonne of scuff marks all over it outside of normal use. I've done the same thing with other gloves and never had this issue so it was pretty surprising. And yes, they really were shockingly helpful and great to work with. No complaints other than just the inconvenience of the whole thing.

    Very cool.

I expect a 20+ minute video review on the difference in the gloves.

Yup I'm looking forward to some sort of review as well. Your out of the box closure looks similar to what mine was as well. Mine was pro palm too, but not total custom, and by now it is very buttery and worked in.

I actually wish I had more non-game ice times where I could use the 581 and really give it a proper number of reps to see if I could get used to it but I don't really have that luxury.

  8. Update: Called CCM and they confirmed they sent the 581 because that was all they had in stock. When I mentioned I already had a 581 and would prefer a different solution, they agreed to send me the new Axis XF Pro when it's released in February. I shipped the 581 back, and talked to them again today to confirm they received it and that they had all they needed from me in terms of confirming the XF Pro replacement. On the whole I have to say the whole experience dealing with them has been way better than I expected. Super responsive, helpful, and friendly. Now I just have to wait 3.5 months to try out try out the new Axis 🤪

This guy has some weird gear idiosyncrasies...I was watching that game last night and his toe ties are so long I initially wasn't even sure if he had any. I freeze framed some pretty incredible shots of his pad separated from his skate/leg. Played really well last night though, haven to give him that.

For those curious on the noises they're making:

Lol is this for real? That's so loud and creaky 😬 I don't think any of the internals would be broken though. They're just very, very creaky. Can't say I've ever seen that before. I briefly had a 9x3 set before returning them, but I don't recall them having that issue...maybe some other True owners can chime in.

You jest, but you're entirely correct, as you likely are already aware. The modern game is extremely hard on the hips (and associated ligaments). There are goaltenders my age (under 25) getting hip replacements and dealing with other serious hip-related issues. They may have achieved that "sick butterfly flare" (that has much less bearing on how many pucks will be stopped than some believe) but at what cost? Maybe Giguere was on to something with his signature "jiggy fly".

Bringing this back to equipment in an attempt to not stray too far off topic, but my equipment bag resembles something that was swiped from a locker room back in 2012. I never thought I'd end up being that guy wearing "ancient" (allegedly) equipment but what is also somewhat humorous is not only the realization of how little bearing what equipment equipment you are wearing (within reason) relates to success, and that they all do the same thing, just in different ways. Sometimes we forget how little what we wear has to do with the equation.

I'd post a photo of my equipment, but short of "downgrading" to a pair of 11 year old Graf 7500's last year (for $120!), nothing has changed 🤣 aside from the fact that my skating is better than it has ever been.

Ahh yes, the glory years of late teens early 20's when equipment didn't matter. I have a feint memory of that, when mismatched gear was acceptable, a 10 pound Cooper glove snagged pucks, and Ed Belfour's old DR pads from his days at UND were cool even though they were held together with tape.

But yeah, now I'm in my mid-late 40's and I'll take every fucking advantage I can that brand new gear will afford me 😂😂Screenshot_20231014-210550.thumb.png.871564dd3b3261fd91b04dda15b7a41c.png

I tried those on. Had to go up a size from my Vapors and even went with EE and my toes felt so cramped like I slipped into some ballerina shoes. I thought by the look that the toe box would as wide if not wider than my Vapors but it was not the case. It saddened me. I was excited for these as well.

Interesting, that's the opposite of my experience which was I went down a half size from my Vapors! Both regular width. I've found that the toe box has "loosened up" somewhat after a few skates and a few bakes. Sorry it didn't work for your feet - it sounds like it's a bit hit and miss due to how unique people's foot shape is.

I'm obviously biased but these look pretty sweet. Watched a full game in preseason when he was wearing them. Our new 7 year extended former Vezina winner still rocking his incredibly basic set 😂

Haha, I am American.  It's all good.  I never got hooked on good guy/bad guy us/them stuff in sports.  It just doesn't register with me.  I get yelled at every game I go to for saying "nice save!" at opposing goalies or clapping for good good on my team.

Can't say I every really hated, or loved for that matter, a sports team in this way.

I get it though. Sports psychology is fascinating.

Interesting! I guess that's the great thing about sports, everyone can appreciate and enjoy them in their own way 👍

Fair enough.  Pure curiosity in good faith: why do you hate the Flames so much? What's the story?

A fair question! I'm from Winnipeg, which I'm guessing is enough said? If not I can elaborate, haha. Huge Jerome Iginla fan, though. Broke onto the scene and was pivotal in our Salt Lake City gold medal, and obviously played a critical role in the Golden Goal in Vancouver. You wouldn't happen to be American, now would you? 😁

Sorry, that probably still hurts a little 😀

But that doesn't mean yellow doesn't look good with red with a flaming C for the Flames :)

It might! Sorry my friend, I just can't get on board with the yellow and red. Red with blue and/or white or on its own looks good but the yellow just doesn't do it for me😁

Haha, I suppose we will have to agree to disagree on this one. My animosity for the Flames runs deep 😂

This looks so good, especially with the red base on the helmet.

We'll have to see if they look good enough to counteract their horrible jerseys. They should adopt these practice jerseys as their regular home, would be a major improvement.

  19. Seriously, what is this glove? 581 back, different logo layout/placement, and completely different stitching in the palm compared to the current ef6 custom 580 break.

Also, this all red looks awesome but I hate the Flames so I feel very uncomfortable right now. Screenshot_20231009-173807.thumb.png.6a83150c282f4fdeeb08987c2f12a759.pngScreenshot_20231009-173802.thumb.png.982951cd4b27b42a59cb6812ddf09c2c.png
