That's what I thought it was. It's probably a standard stock set due to the gloves being not modified to shit.

aka: an actual side wall on the blocker and not a two piece cuff on the glove.

Speaking of the blocker, looks fine and nowhere near as bad as the catalogue made it seem. Saying that, still looks like it would be a bit cumbersome.

I like the more flexible nature of the older Supreme styled finger protection. Feels like a nice middle ground between coverage and usage.

I haven't had any issues with the finger protection either, I'm still surprised it's been changed.

Dude's like what the hell is this thing on my hand that actually closes?

I managed to remove the 20.2's but somehow ended up with a custom px3 order instead. Blacked out in a haze of goalie gear euphoria, woke up, and this was the result 🤦‍♂️ @Chenner29 @Toobs

The gloves were mostly due to overall design and not quality control. Over the years I've been trying multiple different catchers to see if anything works and I keep falling back to Warrior catchers, time and time again. Shit, I bought an Ultrasonic catcher recently and even before I hit the ice with it I put it up for sale.

Same mentality I have with Warrior products. I get they're a very divisive product and I don't fault anyone for not liking them.

    I judge them though. :P

I fully support all biases based on personal preference and the urge to judge others who think differently than me.

However, I ALSO support the right of anyone (me) to immediately reverse my opinions should I ever decide to switch brands so I can justify the stupid amount of money I've just spent on something I didn't even remotely need. This is the way.

My first pads were RBK 6k's and I had a pair of CCM 2.9 gloves a couple years ago I tried for a while.

    Didn't like either one. lol.

Honestly? My 'hate' for them is mostly exaggerated because I find it fun to do so. I do genuinely think their designs aren't great and they are my least favourite, but, I get why people like them. Familiarity is a huge factor.

(plus NHL presence can never be understated)

My Lefevre experience is pretty limited - owned and loved a Koho 590 years ago, but other than that I only just got into CCM gear this year and recently bought a set of True gloves. My limited experience has only been positive, but I get why it's not everyone's thing. Especially non pro gear like the 2.9's you had...seems like there's a pretty big drop off in their senior/non custom gear, especially their gloves.

I'm sure they break in fine, most gloves do (except 600 breaks). Was mostly just conveying the retail experience with a note of bias that I carry against the Lefebvre desgin lol.

Did you have a bad Lefevre experience that scarred you? 😆 (genuinely asking).

For me it's not just the stiffness. All gloves need to be broken in regardless. It's also or mostly how they feel when you try, emphasis on "try", to get your hand in and be comfortable or feel like the glove suits the shape and/or size of your hand.

I get that we all have different hand sizes and shapes. That's why gloves are so personal in our gear choices.

Completely agree, very similar to skates in this aspect.

Funny. Half of the gloves were nearly impossible to do that with. And I'm decently strong these days.

I know pros get the pre broken in glove option. How they can put gloves out at retail that feel about as flexible as a 5 gallon bucket baffles me.

The CCM/True gloves are the worst for this. Vaughn SLR's aren't good either.

The rest seems to be mostly OK as far as my off the shelf experience go. It's more the antiquated designs that seems to have these issues more than anything.

On 1/18/2024 at 12:42 PM, RichMan said:

I agree with both of you. Warrior and Brian's seem easy, but you can't tell how many clients messed with them over the weeks, months or even years if it's an old model.

It's only natural to have a braking in period but there is a friggin limit after all. Seems like gloves 20 years ago were so much more supple. Remember the Bauer Supreme line? Felt like butter off the shelf.

True 20.2 game ready 590, delivered on Jan 9th, used for 7 games/skates so far. I get that true and CCM may be a little stiffer off the shelf than some other brands but my experience has been it's really not that tough to get them dialed in pretty quickly 👍

The new glove is a revision to the 591. First week of March? The ef6 customizer didn't release until April last year, a head of the release.

Who knows, he may be wrong about the timing. Or he may have meant that's when they'll be able to ship mine. I guess we shall find out. Have you heard any news or seen any products?

The slack or over rotation seems more at the knee as it looks like the toe tie is preventing the rest to follow. How loose is the knee cradle? What model knee pads do you use? Skinny legs or athletic? All can be contributing factors to the issue.

My Warriors have a bit of inner rotation in my stance but nothing crazy.

A couple weeks ago I got in touch with Bonesy (the Nashville EBUG YouTuber) and asked him how he manages to have so much slack on his toe ties and not wear his pads tight yet still can keep his pads relatively square in his stance and when skating. He said he never noticed and he said that for mine, it could just be a question of how I strap them. Then again, the strapping set-up/system is quite different between his Trues and my GT2s.

I recently watched his video where he was taking Wedgewood's px3's for a twirl, and believe me, his pads were not square when he was in his stance and doing t-pushes. I've noticed this in his regular True's as well, often being able to see large portions of his knee when he's in his stance. But when he drops into butterfly, they rotate back properly which is the most important thing, and so maybe he just doesn't view it as a problem. For me personally, I get less under rotation when I strap across the knee and down the calf, so that's another thing you could try, @pfeiffjay54 . In addition to all the other suggestions mentioned above. And as you mentioned, it's a pretty blurry pic so it's a little tough to see what's actually going on! haha.

Kaskisuo had to take his CCM Axis XF review off the Youtubes but there's short videos of him in action with them on his TikTok and Instagram:

    https://www.tiktok.com/@kasimirkaskisuo/video/7282421154202291502

Believe these are both the same video.

Thanks for linking these - and good timing for this thread to be resurrected. I was just on the phone with CCM warranty for a claim I have in which I'm waiting for the Axis XF glove, and they confirmed the release date for this line is now the first week of March. Previously I was told February sometime. I wouldn't say I'm holding my breath on the glove being awesome, but it does look like they may have fixed the thumb/pocket angle that was causing problems on their 581/591 so maybe I'm cautiously optimistic?

Just overall quality and durability. You’ll be much happier with the domestic product.

Hzrdus should be hitting stores relatively, so 20.2 will likely drop in price pretty dramatically if that’s the direction you want to go.

Good to know. I'll try to find some domestics in store and compare them. And I'll try to remove the 20.2's I've currently got in my online cart, haha.

Probably has a lot to do with the boot break angle between the two models and how you look at the pad straight on

FWIW, I do "feel" the boot break a lot more in Px3 than I did in 20.2.

You can probably wait til the new line comes out to get 20.2 at a better price.  There's still a big quality difference between Lefevre and offshore 20.2s in what I've seen so far.

That's interesting I hadn't heard that before, that there were tangible differences. Is there something specific in the off-shores that they don't do as well or just an overall feel?

  13. 10 minutes ago, Chenner29 said:

Since the NHL moved to LDS sizing, most boot lengths are pretty standard now.  I think it's 7" across the board in all sizes across all manufacturers.

I think the trend moved like this:

LDS instituted > goalies started shaving boot length and adding to thigh > league mandated minimum boot length of 7" > goalies started experimenting with boot strap and skate interactions (ie. Lundy loop)/calf setups/professor straps/FRS to have pad sit up higher

Yup that makes sense. It was likely just a perception thing on my part due to them being slightly different style of pad. The 20.2 is tempting me because there's some good sales right now and I literally bought my Eflex 6's a few months ago, haha. We don't all get the employee discount! 😂

  14. 12 minutes ago, Chenner29 said:

    Short which way?

    Height above skate?

    Length from ankle break?

Length from ankle break. The px3 (actually 9x3 was what I had in front of me) boot looked/felt shorter. But you guys would know better, just an impression I got.

  15. 3 minutes ago, Toobs said:

Shorter boot compared to what? It’s got a very flat boot but trues boot length has been pretty consistent across models.

Compared to the 20.2. I've tried on both and the px3 seemed to have a shorter boot, and sat a little differently on the skate but maybe I was just imagining that.

  16. 6 minutes ago, Chenner29 said:

Having owned both, I like the Px3s much more.  The composite thigh is really stiff but can curve and shape a little bit.

    1 minute ago, Toobs said:

I’ve used both, the PX3s are a much better pad imo. Just feels better on the leg and feels more responsive.

Thanks guys, appreciate the info. In addition to the newer composite internals, does the px3 have a shorter boot as well?

  17. 18 minutes ago, Toobs said:

Imo just get a px3. Has one of the stiffest thighs on the market but will still feel familiar to you.

Other than the thinned out thigh rise and the knee rolls, they're pretty similar aren't they? Have you tried both the px3s and the 20.2s?

  18. As someone that's spent most of their life in Vaughns (ending with the V7s), but then wanted to move to a stiffer pad and is currently in a pair of Eflex 6 max rebound, I've now got a taste for it and am interested in going even further in that direction. I love the ccms but they do sometimes have more torsional flex than I'd like. I'm considering a pair of 20.2s and wondered if anyone has gone through a similar progression of pads and what they liked or didn't liked going from Eflex to True.

    Appreciate any feedback!

Went to a True 580 (L20.2) as well after a relatively failed effort to make Axis 580 work. Doesn't fully feel like the 580s of decades gone by... but it is MUCH better than the CCM 580.

The eflex was my first 580 experience so I can't compare my experience to the originals but good to know the True felt better, maybe I'll give it a try at some point. I used a Koho/Lefevre 590 for a bunch of years before the Vaughn V9 XP (590-ish), so the True is a return to more of what I'm used to. I have to say though, in terms of feel and build, the eflex 6 580 feels closer to the construction of the Koho than the L20.2 does. The L20.2 feels lighter, more nimble and more modern than the CCM (again, I'm just talking build quality). What did you not like about the Axis?

  20. 56 minutes ago, Madmedic6 said:

Sad to see you depart the 580 life 😭

I tried! I really did. And there's some aspects of the 580 I really love, like when you snag one it feels fantastic the way it snaps shut and swallows up the puck No pop outs with that thing. My challenge was I never got completely comfortable with where the pocket was in space, and because of its size and shape it feels longer and a bit cumbersome and I've realized I'm less athletic with my glove when I'm using it as opposed to a 590. I think the 590 just fits my hand better. Even just breaking in the True this evening (it only arrived today at noon), it already feels like old familiar.

I’ve never been able to carry my pads separately. I’ve tried to do it, but it never works for me. Either the pads are sliding down my left shoulder or the bag is sliding down my right shoulder. Maybe I have sloped shoulders, IDK? Putting them over the same shoulder doesn’t work for me either. The pads end up trying to choke me.
For those who do carry the pads separately, do you really need a goalie bag for the rest of the stuff or wouldn’t a player bag fit everything else?

I’ve used wheel bags and shoulder bags. Been using shoulder bags for the last decade or so because I’ve lived in houses with steps and stairs that would make the wheel bags not worth it.

Currently using a John Brown 2400 bag, which I’ve had for five (?) years.

Bag over right shoulder, pad skate lace toe ties tied together without much slack and carried in left hand, stick in right hand. This eliminates the choking, haha. My goalie bad is a pretty compact True...more tall than long. Easier to carry and manoeuvre through doors etc.

$350 CAD for any bag is fucking absurd.

I've been using a CCM Pro carry bag for 8+ years. Aside from the velcro that combines the two straps together, the thing is almost In perfect shape. And I'm not gentle with it at all when I toss it in and out of my truck.

    https://www.thehockeyshop.com/products/ccm-pro-senior-goalie-carry-bag

    On sale for $88 CAD.

Personally I've never understood the desire to put my pads into a giant bag, and I aways gravitate to something smaller and more compact. For me it makes carrying everything easier when you have the bag properly filled out and your gear not sloshing around inside, if that makes sense. Here's what I use:

Glad to hear. The only negative thing I've heard of the hyperlite 2 us the questionable arm connections.

Mach has been fantastic. I've never had a c/a immediately agree with me and just slot in so nicely. It's taken the top spot for favourite after only 6 skates.

Nice, that's been my experience as well. Almost no adjustment period which kind of shocked me! So far I haven't had any issues with the arm connections, and I actually added additional velcro on the straps so that I could cinch them up even higher. I prefer the arms to be on the shorter side. So far so good.

  24. Quick update after 6 or so skates in the Hyperlite 2 chest - took my first heater off the shoulder last night while in the VH position, with no issues. I definitely felt it, but it was one of those satisfying "yup that was a solid impact but didn't hurt", feelings. Mobility is really good with zero mask interference and controlling and cradling gut shots works well. I've take a couple hard shots off the arms as well and protection has been fine. I'm including a pic of the 2010 Vaughn Epic chest I've been wearing forever for reference. Anyway, quite pleased with this beauty this far. Any questions feel free to ask. @coopaloop1234 how's the Mach?
