  2. Maddening that this type of thing is enabled by people in power time and time again. Clearly our culture hasn’t come to grips with how to deal with these incidents IMMEDIATELY AFTER THEY OCCUR. The Blackhawks inaction (or willful cover-up really) not only damaged Beach’s life further, but allowed a younger boy to be abused later. Unforgivable.

The shootout is definitely beat. Ties will not kill anyone. Nobody is fooled into thinking that a team 'won the game' after a carny game shootout.

3 on 3 or whatever in OT is tolerable.

Tie game = one point each.

Also, drop the loser point for losing in OT. So millennial.

An alternative would be regulation only. Three points for a win, one point for a tie. That would actually reward teams for winning since teams that win would pull away in the standings from teams that tend to tie.
Of course, owners might not like that. They want everyone alive until the end of the season.
Then the playoffs would have overtime as per usual.

  4. I think most telecasts have too many people involved. Professional broadcasters know how to deliver the action and understand how to be succinct with words. Former players do not know how to do any of this and often intrude on the main commentator’s call of the game. And now they often have two former players with the main commentator.

  5. Wow, those look great. Love the shape of that catching glove. When you say the gloves are too big, do you mean the interior in relation to your hands or the spec of the exterior?

  6. Let’s not forget about The Godfather of Death metal, the band Death. In the nineties, Chuck Schuldiner, the vocalist and guitarist would assemble all-star musicians for each album and ushered in technical death metal. Sadly he got brain cancer and died relatively young.

Cynic and Meshuggah are two other bands in that mold.

I guess despite using eflex pads I'm not exactly used to a leg pad that moves with me and consistently recenters. Before EF5 I had some 2S Pros with hybrid prolaces and even those had trouble centering surprisingly. Something about EF5 is magical that causes it to always recenter.

The elastic toe-ties are also good for easing strain on hips and ankles. This may be more noticeable to someone older and less flexible. Easier to put on, too.

  8. The technical skill required to play most of this music is mind-blowing. Play-through videos show how skilled these artists are. Young musicians have greater, easily accessible resources to learn in today's modern world. Similar to goaltending, there are new techniques that musicians use to play better and faster. They can also earn money by playing live to an online audience who give donations. I like the drummer 66Samus who creates Youtube videos and streams on Twitch.

I didn't mention before, I also listen to the legends of the '80s and '90s. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Sepultura, Testament, Pantera, White Zombie, Type O Negative, Life of Agony, Biohazard. Their predecessors Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. I should listen to more Judas Priest. '00s and '10s bands like Five Finger Death Punch, Volbeat and Alterbridge. Of course, the hard rock classics like AC/DC and Led Zeppelin.

I'm sure I'm leaving out a ton of bands.

Yeah it's too bad, back to really boring gear. Kaden Fulcher is the only guy doing anything interesting and he'll be in the AHL all year.

    Fulcher.jpg

It seems to be the case with most goaltending ability as it correlates to gear attractiveness. The greater the ability, the more boring the gear. The greater the gear appears, the greater the likelihood that the goalie will be in the minors. And of course the women tend to have the best of all gear style, and we get little opportunity to see them.

  10. It's weird that such a great innovation like elastic toe-ties would become less desired so quickly because of the effect they have on the movement out of the RVH. I can't say I've noticed a negative effect of the Prolaces on my RVH movement. However, I may not use it as aggressively as others on here. I couldn't imagine going back to regular toe-ties.

  11. Great thread. I enjoy many forms of music including many of the sub-genres of heavy metal. And each sub-genre has even more sub-genres. Example: Metal>Death Metal>Melodic Death Metal>Swedish Melodic Death Metal AKA The Gothenburg Sound: In Flames.

Years ago I was content just listening to the music I had in my library and wasn't interest in new music. So for death metal it was Morbid Angel, Deicide, and others like that. Some melodic bands like In Flames and Arch Enemy. Music that had a symphonic element or straddled Black metal like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth. Industrial feel like Fear Factory and Strapping Young Lad.

Then a friend at work who was into extreme forms of metal/metal-core got me into trying newer bands. This was around the time streaming services were becoming popular. I ended up subscribing to Apple Music which allows me to listen to anything at any time. Some of his suggestions include: Rings of Saturn, Belzebubs, Inferi, Archspire, Fit for an Autopsy, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Beyond Creation, among others.

Apple Music sends out New Music playlists each week based on my preferences, so I hear new artists all the time. I actually have a long list I add new bands to in my Notes app. Social media is also good for learning of newer bands. Some bands that come to mind are Obscura, Decrepit Birth, Anaal Nathrakt, Black Dahlia Murder.

Of course, I also listen to other forms of metal and other genres unrelated to metal, even pop music. Dragonforce, Beast in Black, Lady Gaga, Coldplay, etc.

There's great music out there. It's just accessible differently today. The old way of turning on terrestrial radio is not the way to get a good idea of the scope of all your options. Satellite radio, streaming services and social media will open many doors of options.

  12. So aside from looking lame, what's the issue with Gibson's mask? I'm assuming it's a Captain America theme, right? I'm assuming the artist didn't get permission to use it. Seems like a basic step any mask artist should take if attempting something like that. And if you're going to do something illegal, at least make it look cool. It just looks like a giant A on his forehead and a bullseye on his ear, on a dark backdrop. Maybe that's how the artist though he'd get around copyright, make it look super-lame and they won't notice. 🤦‍♂️

The paw on the brown glove is fantastic. Nice family photos.

Thanks. I designed the art for the brown pads. Jeff Salvi executed it. I later had Sara Marschand from P.A.W. rework the art on the gloves, back when she still did repairs. Jeff Salvi is in Massachusetts and does repairs and builds his own line of gear. Sara makes her own line of equipment and accessories out of Indiana under the name Protective Athletic Wear (P.A.W.).
