Seeing Bryz in person makes you understand how big goalies in the NHL are.

That said, I first ran across him at mites and his kid had some dynamite gear. That's a good dad.

That’s the thing that dopes who moan about goalie equipment size don’t get. The men wearing it have gotten bigger. They’ve downsized gear several times since 2005. A 6’5” man will always look bigger than a 5’10” man.

In the Borne movies, Jason Borne was the fake name for a soldier named David Webb. The military program was called Treadstone and David Webb entered and was deleted from the face of the earth.

Sounds like your goalie may have done the same. Gone. Vaporized.

Gotta get Deputy Director Pamela Landy on the case.

I’m a Habs fan, so I’m disqualifying myself from comment - but what did others think of the Scheifele hit on Evans…?

Excessively violent. And it was so because of distance traveled and the speed he built up in that distance. The refs followed the rules and gave the appropriate penalty. He might see a suspension, too.
All of this is not to say hitting shouldn’t be allowed, as some might complain seeing this hit penalized. There’s plenty of hitting going on, it just has to fall within the parameters of what’s legal. And this did not.

The boots of their pads are hilarious wide. That's got to be pushing 15" there.

Legend has it Richter had his pads made with a 15” wide boot break tapering to a 9” wide top. Looks like McLean is pushing 13” wide at his boot break. It was the era of fat-bottomed pads.

One of my kids tried to go on the rink the other day wearing two different socks (one solid gray practice sock and one home game sock).

I stopped him and made him fix that. I told him, don't be the two different sock guy. They always stink and are really annoying.

    He's only 11, so I didn't punish him.

Here you go. You earned it.

@seagoal, who has preached on this point many times, is quite correct IMHO. To put it more bluntly, unless the boot strap is between snug and cranked, it is not physically doing anything. Consider the original intended purpose as Seagoal stated. To further emphasize that point, consider that there used to be two boot straps on some pads (see example pic). But that’s not how pads are worn now, generally speaking.

That said, it can psychologically reassure a goalie who is afraid to make the leap.

Interesting that The Cat is routing both boot straps through the back hole in the skates. I’ve always seen and assumed one boot strap goes through the back hole and the other through the middle hole of the skate.

Not exactly action photo, but two shots from pre game warm-up I've played 3 weeks ago.
Fortunately for me the rinks shutdown didn't affect everyone, so I have been able to play continuously since August.

I see that “Two-different-sock-guy” is a worldwide phenomenon.

  9. Forgot about this thread. We have an addition since I last posted in this thread. Here’s Jethro. He joined us when we lived in Toledo, Ohio a little over a year ago.

So we have a Connecticut cat and an Ohio cat living in Memphis, Tennessee.

I have to do a fake company for my quality management class for grad school. Yes, I'm 43 and still in school like a jabroni - but I made a company that does QA/QC for goalie gear and named Mr. Heaton as my supposed president.

The 2400 is more of the traditional approach. What intrigue's me about the 2200 is the fact that it's more flattened out making it easier to go through entries.

As for straps, I'm 6'2 and have yet to come across a bag that fell too low off my shoulders. In fact, I experienced the opposite, too short.

I've tried putting my pads in a large bag once and it's a no go. I wear 35"-36" pads. Add the xl pants and large c/a...not enough room and way too heavy on one side, bad for the back.

Wheeled bags do tend to be too heavy and the chassis do break down fast, not to mention rolling in snow/slush, the salts just eat away at the materials.

If you get the 2200, I’d love to hear how you like it. I was scared away by it’s shape and went with the more conventional one.

To those who carry their pads separately, do you really need a goalie bag for the rest of your stuff? Wouldn’t a player bag be sufficient?

  12. I was fortunate to get onto a good team here in my new home, Memphis, Tennessee. The rink is the only one for hundreds of miles and is actually in Mississippi. Only twenty minutes from my house. Surprisingly good hockey with tons of transplants due to FedEx having headquarters here. Plus local kids from Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas who play here. Ole Miss club hockey plays here, too.

  13. I have this one.

    https://brownhockey.com/products/ac/b/2400

The dimensions are different than the Brown bag you’re looking at. Mine is big and at times ungainly. A negative for me is the shoulder straps are a little long, making the bag hang a little low. This in turn causes me to lean in the other direction to balance the bag as I walk.
Positives are that it is durable, it has the U-shape opening and a separate end compartment.

Personally, I’ve never been able to carry my pads outside my bag. I’ve tried it and it just didn’t work for me.

I’ve had a smaller Brown bag, what the site calls the 1800, two Vaughn roller-bags (The zipper broke and Vaughn replaced it for free), a TPS roller-bag and a large Don Simmons bag. Although, the roller-bags make it easier to get your gear in and out of the building, I found the extra bulk of the frame makes it harder to get in and out of the car, house and locker room. Also the frames tend to break down.

Incidentally, Brown does make a roller-bag, it’s just not on the site. If you’re interested contact them directly about it.

Have you tried using a soldering iron to apply heat to the screw?

No, I do not have a soldering iron, nor do I plan on getting one.

Good news, though. The toe-bridges do fit the other pads using the bolts. So perhaps this was all a waste of time for me. But maybe this thread can be a resource for someone else in the future.
