Do you know how long it takes to make a one? My wife will be taking a trip back to Toronto between August 20th and returning to Hong Kong on September 8th or something like that. Is this enough time?

I think Brown does a summer shutdown around August. At least they have in years past. This may affect your production time.

Thanks for all your hard work here Willy, this is great!

That's a shame about the collar pieces. I think I would be interested in that.

What exactly is "Extra Cushioning"? Is that throughout the entire CA? If one got this mod, would it make "Extra Rib Protection" less relevant?

I'll need to check up some more about the Russian Spec.

Thanks again for your time spent to inform us of the prices.

Back in 2006 when I ordered mine, I wanted the built-in collar. The shop that I bought from actually sent one without. I had to send it back and they sent one with one. I wanted my shipping money back because it was their mistake. I never heard back from them. The shop went out of business shortly thereafter. Pretty sure no hockey shops carry Brown unless it’s old inventory. I know as recently as three years ago when I lived in Connecticut, Wesco in Brookfield had a few 2100 units. Now dealing directly with Brown you’re going to get something built specifically for you.

Roughly a year ago, I removed the integrated throat guard from my 2100 and started to use the Maltese throat guard I use with my Vaughn 8800 Epic C/A. I found the integrated one had a gap in protection. It’s just a ring of foam attached with fabric. No padding in the connecting fabric. Every now and then a puck would sneak in there. And I do wear a dangler. Now the Maltese throat guard and C/A together cover with no gaps.

Aside from the upper arm addition, I’m not sure if Russian spec includes anything else.

No idea what extra cushioning entails.

Extra rib protection might be for units that don’t have the part that is standard on the 2400.

It seems that many components are interchangeable between models. It’s possible telling them which components you like vs the ones you don’t will help them choose the right model to build off of. As with most things regarding their products, asking them directly will get you the most accurate response. My price list may be outdated by now, too.

Trepid, is this the shot you asked me about? The Cooper Custom Pro Shop beefed up my SA95 arm pads and BP21 belly pad in the mid 80's. They were bullet proof for that time but friggin' heavy!

I seem to remember you saying you took these pictures for insurance purposes. No bulletin boards or social media back in the day to show off your gear on.

I don't see the current prices on the Brown website.

Their website is rarely updated. Updated information and products are on their social media accounts, Facebook and Instagram. I compiled a list of prices based on Brown replying in comments of their posts. If you go back far enough, you see their prices go up occasionally. For example as seen below, the JB2400 and JB2200 were $769.95 and are now $850. The JB2000 price is probably old. Collar prices are now obsolete because they apparently no longer offer them. All prices below are in Canadian dollars. So for example, the $850 price tag comes to $717.87 American dollars at the time of this post.

    Chest Protectors

    JB2400CA $769.95/$850

    JB2200CA $759.95/$850

    JB2000CA $739.95

    Extras

    Custom Colors $69.95

    Built-in Collar $29.95

    High-cut Built-in Collar $39.95

    Extra Cushioning $29.95

    Shoulder Lifts $39.95

    Extra Rib Protection $29.95

    Fighting Strap $24.95

    Wider Shoulder Flaps $29.95

    Suspender Guides $19.95

    Russian Spec $79.95

    Embroidery $48

In Red Bank, NJ (Kevin Smith area) there is a funky fantastic rink. It's the Red Bank Armory. The building was once used as an armory and retains much of the classic looks and charm.

Inside it's labyrinth of walkways to the lockers. The rink just fits inside the place. They kept the former suspended running track around 3/4 the rink for the fans to watch from. They actually overhang the rink a little. So the parents yell down to their kids. At the one end, there are small stands with glass protecting them.

New Jersey Devils on Twitter: "#NJDevils alum Colin White is on hand at the Red Bank Armory to drop the first puck at the 🔟th anniversary of the Liberty Bell Games! 🏒…

The youth program is called the Generals (perfect for the Armory) and is very good. The rink is the best in the state. Princeton's Hobey Baker Rink is also top in the state and a museum with an active rink, but the extremely small locker rooms that are shared make it second to the Armory.

I don’t know what’s more impressive, all these odd or interesting rinks near you, or the fact that you have photos at the ready of all if them.

I feel like I’ve been at the rink above once. When we lived on Long Island, my girlfriend played on an adult women’s team that traveled to play opponents. I remember going to Jersey* and being in a brick building. Of course, that was more than fifteen years ago. Nice place.

Nice uniforms in the last picture. Who’s the genius that thought powder blue vs gray would be a good idea? Both jerseys have the same pattern, too.

Some time ago someone here or in the FB mentioned that Browns posts there about new gear are atleast partly from history. Someone got a new chesty and a gear bag to here in Finland and I asked something about them and congratulated them for their new gear. Reply was something like "yes we've had it for over a year now so not very new to us anymore. But it's a good gear anyways now that we've been using it for a while... 😁

Yeah, a guy in my league got new leg pads from Brown. I saw them in person and wondered why they weren’t posted on Facebook or Instagram. It must’ve been two months later they finally posted them. Their pictures are often blurry, too.

  6. They’re really slow to update their site. I think their newest line, the 2500 (Pads and gloves), is like five years old and still not up on their site. It seems they focus more on social media, posting all products that go out each week. They have plenty of new features available that are not reflected on their website.

Sorry about your experience. However, the integrated collar isn’t much in terms of protection. A separate one would be more protective.

  7. I just looked over the Brown website and noticed they no longer offer the built-in neck guards. They were really the only brand that had that feature that I can remember. I wonder if it had to do with the gap in protection between the ring of foam of the throat area and the chest protector itself. It was only connected by a piece of fabric with no padding in it. A separate throat guard would have padding in that area. The main advantage of the attached neck protector was not having to carry an additional piece of equipment around. I ordered my 2100 with the neck guard included. I did get dinged a few times in that gap over the years. I removed it last year and wear my Maltese throat guard with the 2100 now.

  8. What he said wasn’t as bad as I expected. Bruce just has an “everyman” style of talking.

However, the larger point is valid. How ignorant most people, even within the hockey world are about anything goaltending.

  9. Ugh, is this going to be series over just as soon as it starts? I’m sure Tampa fans are loving it, but if it’s not competitive, the neutrals lose out. I didn’t see game two, where Montreal outshot Tampa, but mostly it just appears as teams in two different classes.

This championship will definitely have a tainted feel to it for the majority of people, due to Tampa’s salary cap situation. They’re basically $18 million over, right?

They’re already a tremendous team, seems like everyone else is at a huge disadvantage due to the cap situation.

It’s annoying when analysts play the goalie battle game. One guy outplaying the other guy. Different people are shooting on each goalie. Different people are defending for each goalie. Vasilevskiy is great, but so is Price. Tampa thrashes every team and goalie. To me it’s unintelligent analysis to say it’s because Vasilevskiy is playing better than Price.

  10. It’s funny this thread came up. I just played at a drop-in on Wednesday. It was an irritating experience. Most of the drop-ins are. Teams are almost never even. There’s always someone who wants to play with their friend and is unwilling to switch teams even if they are too potent of a tandem. Or there’s someone who claims they don’t have a different jersey to switch sides. Little to no defense is played. Everyone saves their energy to play offense. The drop-ins are an hour and a half here. They’re barely tolerable for the first twenty minutes.

Perhaps, it’s an age thing. Maybe if you’re young, have boundless energy, and are super flexible it can be a good experience. I am none of these things.

I wish I could enjoy them, but history has shown that I cannot. I’ll probably stick to league play and organized rental groups when I can.

  11. Basically, the sport is dirty, at least the NHL playoffs anyway. Pretty much every team is behaving this way and the refs are allowing most of it. If you remove your own bias and emotion, you realize the dirtiness is widespread through all the teams during the playoffs. For example, I’m an Islanders fan and when looking at it analytically, Mayfield’s crosscheck on Kucherov was brutal. As a biased, emotional fan, I’d say fuck Kucherov 😎.

  12. Honestly, what is the deal with the officiating in the NHL? I’m an Islanders fan and I thought that was a penalty against Mayfield on Kucherov. Brutal crosscheck into the unpadded portion of the lower back, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE REFEREE! Someone must’ve put out a directive to call as little as possible. Either the league, the head of referees or the referees on their own have decided to call nothing if at all possible. It’s “Let ‘em play” to the max. Player safety? Yeah right. Thoughts?

Fleury back in is a big mistake, calling it now.  Sure he has 3 Cups, albeit winning his first on the backs of Crosby and Malkin together in their absolute Prime then the next 2 rings won as a bench warmer for the very reason he was sat when a single blunder this series cost a big game. He cannot be trusted to stay consistant enough.

I would just point out that Pittsburgh has won ONE playoff series since Fleury was taken by Vegas in the expansion draft. The cups Murray won, Fleury was integral in either carrying the load during the season or bringing the team into the later rounds until Murray took over (one of each.)

I’m not trying to fanboy MAF or demean Matt Murray, I just think Fleury’s contributions to the Penguins success shouldn’t be overlooked.

However, you might be right that putting him back in may be a mistake here. Most of Deboer’s goalie decisions have made me scratch my head. Of course, to this point, they have worked out.

Never understood the lease thing. I've always liked knowing that the vehicle I have is mine and I don't have to turn it in unless I want to trade for something else. But even then, it's a purchase that is MINE.

My cousin (way back when) used to do a 1yr lease. Just baffled me when he'd show up in something new.

Well, I get a new car every three years. Monthly payments are less for a lease than purchasing a new car. I weighed buying my lease vs leasing the newer version of the trim line I have. The only options to buy that were cheaper required money down. So leasing was the best option again. My investment guy says buy used or lease if you want new. Unless you are ordering a custom vehicle.
