I just picked this up Saturday from the hockey shop in Langley after speaking to the Brians reps at tendyfest. I'm coming from a Warrior G2 classic pro that needed replacing. The Optic3 fits much differently, and while stiff in some areas, moves really well at the joints. I have not had a chance to try it on the ice yet, but I've tried it on with pants and my helmet to dial in the adjustments and I think it will work well. I'm away for work so no pics at the moment unfortunately

How is the unit working out for you? Seen it in person yesterday and was very impressed

  3. I'm currently in older Reebok 11k pro pants with a Bauer ultra pro (the goalie crease) spec chest and I cinch the inner belt snug, tuck the chest and tight it down with the laces through the front loop of the chest. Then snug the outer belt and suspenders over the shoulders.

I have a pretty baseline idea of the changes from Mach to Shadow.

Don't expect any real changes, very similar evolution as the HL1 to HL2.

Blocker remains mostly unchnaged, small adjustment to the finger attachments.

Catcher comes stock with a wrist strap, but smaller than hyperlite gloves. Cuff has been reduced for a larger pocket.

Pads will be stock medium stiffness (ultrasonic). So a step softer than the Mach. Leg pillow is a bit more contoured, but the rest is similar to Mach.

If that's what they do to the glove I think I might be sold on it!!!

Yea, it's a problem I encounter more the lower I go down on the tier list.

Weaker shots, weaker players, puck is somehow more bouncy.

    Frustrating

Agreed, the lower the caliber the more unpredictable the play.

  6. I mean personally I also find it hard when the shot comes in super slow to direct it into the corner and what I have been doing myself for these is since the shot is coming in sower I have more time to actually centre myself to the shot and cradle it and usually not allow a rebound and stop the play.

If you like Brian's I highly recommend sticking with them. No other brand is going to truly capture the same feel and another step further, if you like the original Gnetik Pro you can ask Brian's to make you a brand new one (possibly even with the boa system).

Sometimes you simply can't leave that one special glove. For me and @coopaloop1234 thats the warrior glove. For many it's a Lefevre built 580. For you it may be Gnetik

I didn't realize that Brian's would possibly make me an original Gnetik I should talk to the boys at the crease about that. Interesting on the Vaughn glove as I have never liked the feel of there gloves before but I'm not against giving them a whirl. I did find that the more recent versions of the Gnetik became very pancake ish to me and the new Iconik at least from the pics seems more similar to my original gnetik.

The only reason they say this is because the pocket on gnetik isn't as vertical as most 590s

Yeah I came to realize this as now that I have been using the 600 with my True set since August. I think I might have to go to the Crease in November and see Rance to try on the new Iconik glove as I'm having a hell of a time adjusting

  9. I myself recently went through this same process as it was time for me to replace my Bauer Reactor 6000's from 2013. I am lucky enough that I live close to The Goalie Crease so I went in to see Rance and we went over my options.

Going in I was wanting something that was a touch stiffer then my current pad and my gut was telling me to stick with Bauer as I had used them all my life (I know new Bauer is much different then old Bauer). Pre-covid I was going to put an order in for a custom 2x set but we all know what happened with COVID so that put a damper on that purchase. Regardless I was thinking Hyperlite but Rance did mention that they had much more "give" to them compared to the 2x.

I ended up trying on the hyperlites which felt good along with the Mach which I actually preferred for shape and feel. So I was going to go with a mach pad but ultrasonic stiffness.

Here is the kicker he then told me to try on one last pad which was the Px3. It felt amazing and very well built. I ended up ordering a custom set of PX3's. Once I got them on the ice I can tell you that they are drastically more stuff then my old Bauer pads however it only took me about 3 to 4 skates to get adjusted to them and they move so seamlessly with me now it is amazing and th  stiffer thigh rise has certainly saved a few goals already. Sizing wise I was in a 35  + 2 Bauer and had to go down to a 33 + 2 in the PX3's. Sizing wise I also fit the same mold as you, I was in the top end of the M or a L. If I had gone Bauer I think I would have gone M for the Mach and L for the hyperlite based on how the pad was sitting on my legs.

Yeah. It'll field a bit unwieldy at first, but the clavicle piece will adjust with your contours and end up feeling fine.

The neckguards I grew up using were either Crouch brand or the Vaughn VPC 7000 style. I similarly got the Kova neckguard after I took way too hard of a shot to the neck, the shot I took collapsed a vessel long enough that I blacked out for a couple of seconds and came to as the puck was leaving my zone. I don't usually wear a dangler because I do not deal well with the noise and frankly find they do in my OCD when I cannot get the ties symmetric, compounded by having to redo it whenever they break.

The specs I got on my latest custom Kova were:

    • 2.5 in/6 cm neck height
    • 14 in neck circumference
    • -1 inch on clavicle width (I did this to match the width of the Vaughn VPC 7000 that I was super used to and I'm a small dude)
    • Added gel to the neck and clavicle
      • My first one didn't have it added to the clavicle, I'd recommend this (as would Topi)

I really cannot speak highly enough of Kova's products after using them for four years now (suspenders going on four years). The turn around for a custom neckguard is typically less than 1 week production time, then however long it takes to ship and they are very responsive to emails.

Hope this helps. If you're looking for other/cheaper options, I'm sure someone else will chime in.

I've had this same debate over the years. I've taken a few shots off the collarbone and then go buy a neck guard use it for a game or two and then take it off. Then I get a dangler and then take it off as I hate how it blocks my down low vision. Right now I have a dangler again as I wait for my Vaughn SLR shirt as I hope that solves some issues but if not I might have to bite the buttel and grab a kova and just adjust to the break in phase.

I didn't get to because the shop didn't have any my size and could not tell me with certainty when they could get more and then I forgot about it.

I'm looking at getting the new Aegis padded shirts though. Have you looked at that?

Yes I did look at those my only concern with them is that the spot I keep getting hit on is right at the top of the shoulder where the shoulder/chest meet if that makes any sense and it doesn't appear like the Aegis foams cover that but the Vaughn one seems to stretch across the entire front/clavicle/shoulder area

@seagoal I was looking at the SLR2 as a comparison to the Velocity you mentioned and I like the look of the clavicle protection better than the velocity but it looks like it doesn't come with a forearm foam like the Velocity https://www.sportwheels.ca/vaughn-ventus-slr2-padded-goalie-compression-shirt.html

You did say that you only used the bicep protection on the velocity shirt, would you say that the forearm was ok/decent on the VE8 Pro Chest?

Did you ever end up getting the SLR2 undershirt. I took a nasty shot of my shoulder yesterday for the second time in 5 months and I'm thinking I might want to try this one at least until i get my new chesty.

  13. When I look at the shape of the glove it looks to me at least like they have gone more in shape towards the original gnetik glove when it was released compared to the flatter presenting one of the last few years.

Mine would be my vapor 2x glove, I hated the single t and the break. I had it for a couple months couldn’t catch a puck with it to save my life so I bought a supreme 2s pro now I have a mach and will never go back to a 590 glove.

I feel your pain on the 590 glove. I had a Reebok Revoke for a good 6 months that was essentially a second blocker, could not catch a thing with it. Have never wanted to go back to a 590 since!

    Hello everyone,

I'm not sure exactly how this would work but does anyone have any suggestions about increasing the "pop" of rebounds off of your pads? I have an Eflex 4 setup and I just wish the puck would fly off the pads and blocker a little better. I know buying new, stiff pads would solve this issue but I thought this would be a fun discussion.

    Thanks for your help!

    Buy some Bauer's 🤣🤣

  16. I've had a few skates now with the 4mm steel and what a difference, feels way more natural then what the 3mm steel was and I feel like i have more control and stronger pushes. The boot on the new CCM skates feels great, different then my Bauer's but certainly comfortable and now with the new steel I think they will be great.

@Novasteel31 - late to the party here and there are some good points made after your inquiry. I'll throw in my two cents as well...

There is rrreally that much difference between 3mm and 4mm - I mean what's a millimeters amongst friends? Granted - this is coming from a guy who only briefly flirted with 3mm steel.

I think the bigger issue at play is going from the feel of Bauer to CCM. I was long an old school Tack guy who jumped on the Bauer bandwagon for the One100/80/60 iterations and then stuck with Bauer for a few pairs before trying the new fandangled CCM Tack offering - black steel and all that jazz. Could not get used to the feel after multiple skates. I think its tough to boil it down to one thing when there were more than a few differences but the best way I can sum it up is that the CCM just felt... off/wrong/whatever. Switched back to a newer Bauer offering with zero issues on the transition. Might just be that CCMs aren't your spirit animal. Maybe this is helpful from a dude with a similar experience. Hopefully the different profile will work for you.

You could also be completely correct on the transition from Bauer to CCM skates as I have been in Bauer for over 10 years now but I was previously in CCM and Rbk skates. The difference in the blades was not as significant once I had the blade profiled but the biggest difference i noticed on the 3mm blades was the bite I would get on pushes in the butterfly

I do a lot of toe pushing so i wanted some more meat on the front of skate I'm using 4mm step blade along with Detroit 2 profile and the movement is night and day. Like you i had the same feeling of my toe was catching the ice and i couldn't move that well. The DET2 took of some of the front of the blade and make me feel more like I'm putting pressure on the heel/midfoot and my toe of the blade can pivot and move without the catching feeling. I would suggest to go slow and see what works best for you, i know SAM is pretty aggressive in the toe area and it seems hit or miss for users.

I ended up getting the 3mm blades profiled at 24/28 and dropped the sharpening down to 7/16 and it felt way better but the blade dulled out by the end of the skate it was really weird. Ended up talking to Tyler from Tydan and he got me a 4mm blade and profiled it at 20/28 should hopefully have it on Monday

Yes I was wondering about the same profile as well butI wasn't sure which was more aggressive that being the Detroit 2 or the Same.
