Would love for the Leafs to pick up Holtby.  I think he would be a great fit with Campbell.

I agree, hopefully a team that should have some solid defense next year can help holtby out of his slump.

Also, a complete Oilers move trying to trade a pick thinking Minnesota wouldn't pick Wallstedt, and then they re-sign Smith for 2 years. LOL

At some point, I think Minnesota got confused that Wallstedt was still available and snagged him. When a move is too obvious for Ken Holland, he makes life interesting and goes down another path LOL.

Yzerman moves up and takes Cossa in the draft tonight. GIVE ME ALL THE GOALIES.

I indirectly called the pick yesterday, saying the 22nd pick would go to Cossa (used it to move up)! Excited for the young guy and see where his career goes

  4. The all anticipated Seth Jones Trade:

Chicago receives Seth Jones and signs him to an 8 year, 9.5 million AAV extension, 2021 1st Round Pick (#32) and a 2022 6th Round Pick. CBJ receives Adam Boqvist, 2021 1st Round Pick (#12), 2021 2nd Round Pick (#44) and a 2022 1st Round Pick.

  5. Coyotes trade Oliver Ekman-Larsson (retaining 12% of OEL's salary) and Conor Garland to the Canucks, in return for Jay Beagle, Antoine Roussel, Loui Eriksson, a 2021 1st Round Pick (9th pick), 2022 2nd Round Pick, and a 2023 7th Round Pick.

    So yay science

I like your description of the difference between automatic and controlled processing, and I've definitely found this to be true when playing a division lower. Playing against guys that can really shoot, their shots get more "predictable" as its like a batter facing only fastballs, and all you have to do is focus on the strike zone. Playing down a level, my most feared shot was a shot from the point because that puck has a mind of its' own. We read the shot off the stick as one thing, but the puck might dip, come off slower than we think, or do a million other things. Our body's motor program is not adjusted to the different pace, and thats why you slowly improve as the game goes on.

    Yay science!

Recent history-wise and Osgood/Howard aside - Detroit really doesn't have a stellar record of developing homegrown tender prospects. Historically they are more of a comb the free agent/trade market for a body team. Besides - not much you can do when Filip Larsson totally bombs and/or Petruzzelli doesn't sign. Also think it's better to have your goalie come in on the tail end of the rebuild effort. That way his confidence isn't crushed when he's playing as the team is bottomed out.

For the record - I like everything about the Nedeljkovic trade: in/out, term, dollars. Kudos to Stevie. Even if he's terrible - keeping in the bottom tier of wins/losses will continue to stockpile higher draft picks.

I feel like goalie prospects are just as hit or miss as players, but the key thing is that there is only one of them on the ice and not 5 with 3 lines.

That's a really good point about the confidence portion of it. Looking now that Detroit should be coming up from the bottom of the rankings, adding a good young goalie to the mix to help the Red Wings make that next step is critical.

All in all, I'm excited with this trade

Thank you posting this.  I was just thinking of asking you to do this as you've been active recently and you're really new.

    Welcome aboard.

Hahaha I was wondering if there was an introductions board. Decided to recently fix my log in and got back into my old account.

Thank you for welcoming me aboard the board ;)

  9. Hey all, I see a few of you are fans of this thread so I think it’s about time I posted here.

Long time lurker of the forums and recently started getting involved. Backstory: my first ever game of house league in novice I was unexpectedly put in goal, and never left the net since. Growing up, I was a huge fan of Brodeur and Fleury, watching them play and their cool set ups always drew me to the position. However, once I got more into YouTube and watching old tapes, Roy quickly became my favourite (hence 33).

I played house for 3 years before moving up to A, and never had intentions on moving up due to school being my top priority. My experiences with goalie coaches were never good, so I was taught by my dad who played ball hockey, and watching the pros. Now in university, playing beer league intermittently due to the pandemic - really miss being on the ice.

Always been into gear and messing around with my equipment making improvements, as well as spending way too much time on customizers for gear I’ll never get. I’ve always switched up my gear to see what I like (thanks TGC for setting me up), and I’ve pretty much found what I like (although half the gear I’m currently in is not my favourite). I’m also working as a Strength & Conditioning Coach (not certified yet) with the Uni so always interested in talking exercise, nutrition, and the like.

Look forward to chatting with you all,

    Dre

Also, sounds like Keith Petruzzelli isn't going to sign and will become a free agent, so it's good move to shore up the position. Detroit has literally no goalie prospects of note. I'd like to see them take Cossa or Wallstedt in the draft tomorrow (if one of them is still there late in the first round).

The one thing that surprises me about Detroit is their lack of goalie prospects. The rest of the line up looks promising. I could see that 22nd pick detroit has going to Cossa.

I do love Gary Bettman referring to the arena as Climate Change Arena.  I spit my beer out laughing.

Gary Bettman secretly working for ESPN? HAHAHA, gotta love those name butcherings

Arizona just snagged Gostisbehere from Philly for a couple of picks.  I was hoping he'd find his way to Seattle.

Did not see Arizona as a contender for Ghost, but good acquisition considering the status of OEL

Elliotte Friedman and Darren Dreger reporting that Detroit has acquired Alex Nedeljkovic from Carolina for Jonathan Bernier and a 3rd round pick.

Main takeaway from this trade is Reimer and Bernier reunited on the canes hahaha. In all seriousness, great move by Stevie Y, Ned still needs to prove himself long term, but detroit goaltending just got 7 years younger to match the young squad.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess free agency, as crazy as people may think it could be, will be lackluster as per usual.

That's the NHL at its best hahaha, everyone hyping up the event and then only a few notable trades happen

Man, I'm loving the jerseys. I wasn't sold on the color scheme initially, but wow. That navy home sweater is beautiful.

I wasn't initially sold either, but seeing them at the draft they were sweet. Love the 3 tone blue with the accented red

  16. @seagoal absolutely agree with ya, it definitely takes away from the surprise factor but at the end of the day, half of this roster will actually dress up for the kraken seeing how crazy free agency might be this offseason. I'm hoping that the kraken are competitive and make it interesting right off the bat for the sake of the league (coming from a torontonian :) )

I am just suggesting that maybe the league and major media sources could have possibly done something to limit the amount of leaks.

And per TGN's recent IG post I think he'd agree with me on this hahaha

  18. 1 hour ago, seagoal said:

Yeah, I saw 26/30 leaked, including who our captain will be.  I mean, the connection you're making doesn't add up exactly:  The Kraken and the league are interested in viewership and yes it's supposed to be a surprise reveal, but ,they don't don't control leaks, the nature of which mean information that is supposed to be private goes public by an unauthorized source.

The picks are not made live on TV afterall...the players are already here waiting to be revealed, which means the picks were made days ago.

Yea I am aware that all the players travel to the location similarly to the Vegas expansion draft, but maybe i'm not fully remembering the VGK draft but we were pretty much in the dark for many of the picks. I am just suggesting that maybe the league and major media sources could have possibly done something to limit the amount of leaks.

  19. Anyone else confused as to why more than half of the teams picks have been leaked? Isn't the whole point of the draft to surprise everyone on who they pick? Viewership is definitely gonna be lower at this rate.

  20. 5 minutes ago, seagoal said:

They said their selected players will be there wearing them.  I didn't realize they make their picks ahead of the public event and have the players travel to them in advance.  I didn't watch the Vegas draft.

Probably for the better, I was watching and was pretty unamused by the picks, that is until fleury was picked. But it was cool seeing the whole team together in the jerseys for the first time (even though half of that team played less than a season for VGK - or not at all)

Updated the pictures to show the fits and also show the color accents you can do now, but yes from what is listed it really seems like a step backwards for there custom program. I was reading up on the review on the hockey shop and it sounds like there is still the possibility of a custom skate built to your foot scan.

Thanks for the updated pics! Looks like Bauer is bringing the same player skate fit system as the vapor, supreme and nexus to the goalie skates. I do like this direction that they are going in, as I always liked the performance of the supreme skate but the fit of the vapor line. The only reason I got the vapors recently.

Hopefully by the time I need new skates, their custom program with the scanning tool is up and running. Wish I was able to get a pair of the original VH skates prior to being bought out by True.

Custom skates, am not impressed what they went to interms of the 3 different fits. My custom Bauer skates are 4e wide and have a wide width heel. Right now Bauer doesn't seem to offer that anymore. There custom skate program seems to have downsized alot in the last few years.

Can't really make out what the differences in the 3 fits are, seems like there are 2 stock width options and one EE? What's the real difference between them? I agree that the custom program looks like its taken a step backwards
