Just wanted to briefly update my review of the Junk Trunk:

I am still very happy with it and stand by my initial review, but just FYI the vinyl graphics/logo are all falling off after about 10 ice times or so. I really could not care less, but wanted to post that in case that matters to others.

I actually ordered mine without any graphics. No reason other than I just didn't want anything but a plain black jock.

Absolutely love mine. By far the most comfortable and protective jock I've seen on the market. The adjustability options set it above everything else.

There isn't a lot of things Monster is doing better than others at this point, now that everyone and their dog have their own HAL straps, but the jock is one of them.

    Ha.

Not to detract from the childishness of the bike question, but it is actually news to me

    That's a new bike, too.

I was more talking about CCM's origins:

    Founded in 1899 and then:

By 1905, with saturation in the bicycle market, CCM began producing hockey skates using scrap steel that was left over at the plant from the manufacture of bicycles and automobiles, and subsequently began manufacturing other hockey gear.

    Great points.

Put Price in Passau gear tomorrow, with the name visible, and their website would crash in no time.  It's a guaranteed way to get busier.  But again, kudos to them is they don't desire that at this point.

    Agreed.

We have received inquiries from pros on occasion - given our history, ability to customize and the fact that all our gear is made in Canada we have the ability to offer anything the other guys do.  We just don't see NHL market share as the sole metric of success.

There's a lot more youth and beer league goalies out there than there are NHL goalies. I'm sure Passau is doing just fine without the NHL.

I believe they also have real leather and with the new printing capabilities I'm sure they can accommodate many more colours.

I know about the real leather but definitely not for me.

I bet they could print any shade they want but I’m not sure how efficient it would be to make every single piece from printed jenpro.

Have to share these pics - this is Jeff, who I play against every Monday night.  He has rocked a very old setup for a long time (his goalie skates are literally older than I am and I'm in my late 30s).  He's seen me wear lots of Passau sets over the years and recently he ordered his own setup.  We wanted to do a cross between modern and vintage. The pad internals are our new core with bindingness boot but the exterior has a vintage appearance (though is made in jenpro).  Gloves are also made with modern materials including ecofoam in the palm of the trapper.  He kept saying "it feels like Christmas" every time he pulls them out of the bag.  Just wanted to share.

Tim, do you guys have more than one shade of "retro" jenpro? From google searches I can't tell if you have multiple shades or whether it's just the lighting is different. Part of me wants a retro set but I prefer a slightly more brown (a bit less 'butterscotch') shade than what's shown here.

  7. I've never done the stretching out. I always see photos of gloves with something jammed in there. I never saw the need.

Closing it on the other hand... well... my glove has maltese in it, which makes it MUCH harder to get a good break. I ended up using a clamp right on the break after every skate thanks to the advice from Tim at Passau. Worked like a charm.

    What's so good about them?

Ultra comfortable, absorb a ton of sweat (my kind of sweat at least), dry very quickly compared to others, hold up well in washer/dryer, relatively inexpensive.

For me, the comfort tops everything. Terry was always way too abrasive for me and Sham was just weird feeling. The Bauers are also thin while having good cushioning.

Agreed with all of the above. And with the 37.5 they stay pretty cool in comparison to something like sham which I think are just and I find to be WAY too hot anyway.

I really love the Monster kewl bands because they work exactly as advertised, but I find they only work for a while. They start to get kind of gummy and it seems like washing them makes them lose their cooling properties.

I picked up the 37.5 on a whim (because they're 37.5 which kind of makes it a no-brainer) and was shocked how good they were.

not really as it will last 10 + years, most will last 1 to 1/2 under heavy use most beer leaguers prob 3-5 max depending on usage.

I'm not sure what that has to do with how much it costs, but sure.

FYI, based on the pricing I posted on the last page which I got off a Brown Facebook comment thread, the base model for a 2200 with no add-ons would be $739.95 Canadian which as of now is $568.72 USD. So that’s not too bad.

    That's significantly better.

Yeah, I think my team has a (completely unspoken) "no significant others" agreement. I get it. I used to ask my wife if she wanted to come watch me play like, maybe once a year, but I haven't in a while — the guys I play with never have anyone coming to watch them, and I'd feel a little bit sheepish being the one guy who asked his wife to come watch them and take photos (not that anyone would really care). Plus, I played in an outdoor league this winter, and the league I'm in now has a lot of late games... and neither of those scenarios agree with my gal's delicate sensitivities.

I used to ask my wife and she'd occasionally go but I don't even bother anymore. Usually it's a "no thanks you guys are boring" kind of answer.

Man, where do you guys play where there are so many (or even one) photographers at your games?? That's really cool — I don't care too much, but I'd dig seeing a photo of myself in net once in a blue moon. I've played up in Boston for about 5 years now, and I've almost never seen so much as somebody's wife or buddy take a phone pic from the bleachers...

Mine was at an event for the biggest hockey gear site on the interwebs so we usually have photographers at the events.

However, the site owner has become obsessed with making videos and taking photos so he does it all himself now.
