Just curious, assuming the painter is keeping blue base? Figured they always want the shell white even if they go dark later…

Good question, I’ll ask him about that. I know with some guys there’s an up charge on certain paint finishes

    What are you having painted?

Not exactly sure yet, thinking of mostly elements from whitechapel and possibly korn, with #77 and #80 on the backplate, the ladder is a for sure thing for me right now

(#77 was the kid around my age who got hit with an attempted dump in in the back of the head, i know some people may have forgotten about that)

New Sportmask in my hands.  It will be quickly disassembled and delivered to my teammate, who is an airbrush and commercial graphics artist, who has graciously offered me a custom paintjob for our new team called Skeletons HC.  Our colors are red, black, and white and as luck/fate would have it, this bucket showed up in a red OTNY bag.  Pretty surprised and excited about the bag...not gonna lie.

With Rinne's retirement and my love for his monster masks over the years, I am going to do a tribute to him with this one and get a monster face with big eyes up top, maybe like a skeletal monster of some sort.  I'm not too set on what the monster looks like and I'm going to let my buddy have a ton of artistic freedom with this.  My only asks are:

    -monster face/head

    -large menacing eyes

    -mouth with teeth and tongue

    -20 on the chin

-my motto Stay Present, Stay Calm and my family initials on the back plate

He can do whatever he wants from there.

The tribute part will hopefully be along these lines

If you want my opinion I thought his immortan joe mask was pretty sick, but I didn’t see it on here. Any one of those choices would be nice

  3. God, the more I learn about what happened the more devastating it gets. Hearing what Elvis said along with what Legace said about him in the service just makes this all the more heartbreaking. RIP to a true hero. Praying for his loved ones

  4. Peks pissed me off as a ducks fan but he gained my respect, always had the best masks and was a great tendy and a better person. Congrats to him for an amazing career

Wow the set looks so good, congrats!  So happy for you that you got your gear.  Really nicely done with supplementary splashes of baby blue on the backs.

When do you play next?  Will this be your first pads with Quck Slide or something similar?  It's REALLY different, if so, but in all the best ways.

Did you already list your specs that you ordered somewhere on here?

(if you flipped the red and baby blue, these would be very Kraken-y....just sayin' )

Thank you! I tried a lot of new to me things with this set.

I’ll be playing this fall. Not exactly sure what date. And no, my last set had quickslide. Slightly annoyed they didn’t have navy quickslide but it still looks pretty nice

For the specs: On the pads, soft boot, stick stiffness the rest of the pad, tight leg channel, and a strap below the calf strap like in the SLR2. It looks like they’ve added an extra one for top of the calf which wasn’t exactly what I wanted but they did it with my last pad and it works fine. For the glove INT size palm, beefed up pro palm, stiffened t top and velcro strap over top of fingers. For the blocker INT palm, no forefinger protector, extra backhand padding, and full carbon sheet on the blocker face.

Spec wise they were pretty much spot on and cosmetic wise they made the inner lacing of the glove navy instead of white but it doesn’t bother me too much. Really excited to play in these. Actually already got a skate in with the blocker and glove and they felt decent for being brand new

FYI, the light blue is only seen on the third jerseys but it’s one of my favorite colors so I tried to add it somewhere and I think it compliments the rest of the colors nicely.

it's funny to read about dirty Tampa, when the Islanders broke Kucherov in front of the referee and they got nothing for it. in the first game, the Hubs also tried to break Kucherov in front of the referee. and again there was nothing for it. but they paid for it later. and after that you call Tampa dirty? lol

I was rooting for the islanders until they started pulling dirty shit lol. Kuch isn’t a saint himself. If you’re talking about the slash by Weber and cross check by Chiarot you might wanna look at the replay on those, both blatant dives but whatever. Refs also missed a cross check by Sergachev. Every team has at least one punk but tampa has a buttload of them it seems :)

    Fun stat:

Vasilevsky has had a shutout to eliminate Dallas, Panthers, Hurricanes, and now Islanders.

Pretty insane. We're gonna have an amazing goalie duel in the SCF

My thinking is that he did it as a way of staving off a thousand variations of "So we all saw Fleury misplay the puck there. Do you think that cost your team the game tonight?" That's got to be more aggravating to both a coach and the player.

Well yeah. Was he asked that question or close to it? I can understand the answer if that’s case, but also while Fleury was probably really upset with himself at the moment, the team has to learn not to let that stay in the back of their heads. Easier said than done, I know, you got around 15 minutes to think about it then you’re back out there on the ice. The more you think, the more detrimental you are to yourself and your team

All said and done, Fleury seems to be over it by now which is good for vegas, albeit I’m not rooting for them 😂

There were less than 2 minutes left in regulation when that misplay happened and gave Montreal the tying goal. Just a huge deflation of morale for the team who was doubling Montreal in shots trying to extend a 2-1 lead, and then your goalie does something "dumb" to that causes it to go to OT. With the way Vegas had been dominating play to that point, it is highly unlikely that Montreal would have managed a tying goal any other way. They were definitely still thinking about it in the overtime period and it showed on their lapses in concentration leading to the OT goal for Montreal.

If you're talking about how Lehner played in the first game against Colorado, he wasn't fantastic but the entire team was a shitshow in front of him. Most of those 7 goals he could have done precisely nothing about.

I’m not disagreeing with you about that, I’m saying that the coach shouldn’t have said something publicly to begin with. Comes across as an ass IMO

Can't drive (yet) was gonna get my license sooner but covid lol, and my dad is still recovering from a hip replacement so he can't drive yet, and my mom isn't feeling 100% a lot of days nowadays so also that.

I mean it's 100% true; Vegas wins that game if Fleury doesn't misplay the puck. I'm a huge Fleury fan and think he could probably have shaken it off for game 4, but giving him a game to relax seems fine. From the videos of Fleury in practice after game 3, he has already moved on from it. Also, I think the idea was that Montreal had stymied Vegas in games 2 and 3 so effectively that putting in a new goalie and giving the rest of the team a mindset of "let's support him because he hasn't played in a game in a while" was a good idea. Granted, it did not really work out that way (in terms of goal support), but a win is a win.

I think Lehner finishes out this series now (win or lose), and if they win they'll go back to starting Fleury against Tampa/NYI.

While it is true they most likely would've won, pretty much saying you lost because of fleury sounds like a load of BS to me. We all know how jarry played but the coach didn't seem to straight up call him out. IMO that doesn't seem like something that should be said publicly.

  12. Quite the dick move by Vegas’ coach to publicly state that Fleury’s misplay carried on into OT and basically was saying that’s why they lost. I still don’t agree with sitting him last game but Lehner did very well… and it yielded quite the quote from him too

FYI I’m absolutely rooting for montreal but it’s hard not to root for Lehner and Fleury, the only likable guys on that team in my opinion

Hey thanks. I was excited about you seeing them.  I am looking forward to your new gear, for sure.  We are on the unofficial Vaughn committee on here, afterall.

Check this out.  I did a super quick little mod to my pads.  When carrying or storing my VE8 pads I would just run my Pro Laces velcro tabs through the housing of the boot strap, which I removed within seconds of receiving those pads.

For my V9s, I had the foresight to order them without a boot strap, which means there is no housing.  There are no other ways to attach or secure the Pro Laces tabs without that, so I had to think of something on the fly so that they don't dangle when being carried or stored in my gear shelving.

Skate lace.  Snip snip. Loop through the pad's cord, a couple of knots.  Lighter flame.  Voila.  All new, all red, all awesome Pro Laces velcro tab holders.  Total time: 5 minutes.  Total cost: uhh.....pennies :)

Haha yeah, we got some of the best sty on the whole site as well :D can’t deny it. Also I’m thinking of ditching my bootstraps as well so this is helpful. Can you send more pictures of it? I’m having a hard time telling what’s going on in the photo. Cheers man

New V9 Pro Carbon gear in the house.  Ordered April 6th, arrived June 17th.  Through no fault of Vaughn there were a few snags in shipping with FedEx, but 9-10 weeks for new gear from Vaughn ain't too bad.  This is my...5th custom set from Vaughn and the quickest delivery that I remember.

My new team is called Skeletons Hockey Club, decked out in red/black/white.

    Screenshot_20210520-135651_BenchApp.thumb.jpg.8721a1aa31369efc3966084877014d36.jpg

    20210427_181436.thumb.jpg.ece689af2f3cabdeb6fb378433926772.jpg

My strategy for the new gear was mostly red, then black, then white.  I wanted to add some Quick Slide accents on the mitts to help match the pads better, which you can see below.  I am quite happy to report there was not one single error by Vaughn in the set.  Everything is exactly how I ordered it and perfect.  Here are some pics of the gear with all the specs:

    BLOCKER

-full carbon face, pro logos, extra backhand padding for a snugger fit.

Very happy with how it turned out.  It is VERY snug as as of right now, looking forward to it breaking in and loosening just a tad...but not much.  I can not stand floppy, loosey-goosey blockers.  I REALLY love the Quick Slide underneath the board. It makes me smile.

    GLOVE

-pro logos, leather strap/buckle wrist strap replaces the stock nylon slider strap, external velcro tabs in black to contrast the red background (this is stock the same color, I Iike contrast), pro palm

Glove looks and feels great and I REALLY like the T in Quick Slide giving it a little shine and contrast to the other nylon/jenpro reds.  It feels decent in terms of closure, not great, which is standard for Vaughn gloves.  180 degrees for 6 minutes in the oven and some hot water in the outer palm get these closing like a dream for me every time.

The leather strap inside was a bit long (as always) and I trimmed it down so that it doesn't curl up and interfere with the backhand padding.  Super easy little mod to make this more natural closing.

    PADS

-there is no stock size labeled on these, they are built to my legs but they are essentially a 34.5-35, no outer knee wing, no boot strap, soft boot, stiff thigh, pro logos

These are unreal.  I can't believe how they feel.  I was most anxious about ordering the stiff thigh, more than any other thing I ordered, but I am so. glad. I. did.  My VE8s got pretty soft over the past 3 years and on my left one in particular (I am a leaner) it was arcing torsionally on the thigh rise.  I don't mind softer pads, obviously as a lifelong Vaughn guy, but I wanted to push my self a bit into the more modern build with stiff thighs and I really like it so far.  They feel much, much firmer and stiffer than my VE8s, but nowhere close to Bauer Ultrasonic stiff.  Which is perfect for me.  I live sorta in the middle anyway and order a stiff Vaughn pad is where I belong. I of course immediately removed the toe lace and put on my Pro Laces that I have been sitting on for a while now.

All in all I am a happy goalie.  These were a very generous, loving 40th birthday present from my partner who was inspired by how excited I was with hockey returning and being on my new team this summer season.  I would have been fine with my baby/navy blue VE8 gear (I was for game 1 which we won 6-2 and I played great), but this just makes the whole thing pretty f'n sweet.  I am beyond impressed with this gear.  I have a tournament this weekend to look forward to before our next Skeletons game, so I will have a great opporunity to get this gear broken in and dialed in.

    Cheers everyone.

Probably COVID/supply chain related.  I did a 3 pack of EF4's a couple years ago and placed the order in April.  The margins on retail product are better than on custom, so I'm not surprised that they're dedicating every resource (both people and materials) to the retail route until they've got that channel completely fulfilled.

Yeah if I had known that I would’ve placed the order as soon as possible after signing with my college team but I wanted to focus on ordering pads and mask first. It’s not too big of a deal sticks not matching for the time being but it would’ve been nice.

From what I remember the last few years they were always late in doing custom sticks. Not sure why.  I also wanted a few but then good thing I didn't because they don't break on me so easily so every season I'll buy a new stick. How is the eflex5 stick? I was impressed by the 4.

yeah not sure why they're so late to the game. and I've seen how they've done Hutchinson's paddle so I figured they'd be able to do a custom paddle with mine as well, as I've pretty much always shaved my paddles since I started playing. I have no problem shaving it before I head to college but I'll practically have no time to once I go.

also I have no idea, so far I can't even find a full right stock stick that isn't pre-order, but I love my eflex4 sticks.. although my first sticks' blade practically crumbled in half after a few months of use.
